Hi all, this is my first SA post. I'm in the Saskatchewan Canadian tundra and am wanting to build a new TV living-room SFFPC. Will be used for media/same-screen (co-op and sports) gaming. Currently using one I built 6-ish years ago (SG13, 1300X, 1060 6GB, L9a) that has my heart, is quiet and has treated me well but isn't keeping up for living-room gaming. I've been reading this thread since last summer and these posts from June are particularly interesting: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?noseen=1&threadid=3776587&pagenumber=135&perpage=40&highlight=L9#post532439526 Already purchased a Fractal Terra Case. Thinking 7800X3D. Could get another L9a and undervolt CPU if the L9a is lacking. This would leave more space for GPU options in the sandwich Terra. 7800 XT for GPU maybe?? I'm lost on MOBO. TLDR; Looking for advice/suggestions on MOBO/GPU that would pair well with the Terra case, L9a(?) and 7800X3D (undervolted if need be).

Canna Happy posted:Pick your gpu and then depending on thickness pick your cooler. The terra has pretty bad turbulence issues from what I've read, so I would personally choose a cooler that is 5mm or so below your max height allowed. The asrock b650i seems to be the sane budgetish pick? I got my msi b650i for cheap and it has been solid. Asus if you want the nicest of the am5 boards. Steer clear from gigabyte this gen from what I've read. HTSFFLivingRoomPC Fractal Terra Case Ordered Sapphire Pulse 7900 XT Ordered Corsair SF750 Ordered 7800X3D Thinking ASRock B650I Lightning Wifi Mini ITX for 269.99+CAD but I want good sound USB > DAC > AV Receiver > 2 giant old speakers. Should I instead get the Asus ROG STRIX B650E-I GAMING WIFI Mini ITX for 428.50+CAD ? Would it make a difference audio-wise?

Thanks all for the excellent info! HTSFFLivingRoomPC Fractal Terra Case Ordered Sapphire Pulse 7900 XT Ordered Corsair SF750 Ordered 7800X3D Ordered ASRock B650I Lightning Wifi Mini ITX Thinking IS-55 w/ A12x25 for cooling CPU I will now look on the MOBO <s>SQL</s> QVL Memory list and try to find a set that is <=33mm in height. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AUDIO BABBLE: It's two giant old wood speakers from father-in-law combined with a Yamaha RX-V383BL amp. Current setup [Current Ryzen 2600 has no A/V from MOBO] GPU > HDMI > TV > Optical Cable > A\V amp > 2 speakers Will try (New Asrock MOBO > HDMI > A\V amp > 2 speakers) and/or (USB [From small internal USB sound card if it will fit] https://www.sotm-audio.com/sotmwp/english/portfolio-item/tx-usbexp/ > DAC > A\V amp > 2 speakers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cooler fitting babble: Pulse 7900 XT listed dimensions: Length: 313 mm Height: 134 mm (From what I'm reading, it fits at the 131 mm slot positions) Width: 53 mm Width (Slots): 3 PCIe-Slots Fractal Terra GPU/Cooler support as shown: https://support.fractal-design.com/support/solutions/articles/4000194849-terra-cpu-cooler-gpu-support For CPU Cooler the popular way is IS-55 with Noctua A12x25 fan and hopefully I can keep the fan 5mm away from side panel to avoid turbulence noise. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Edit: Low profile 6000 Memory for QVL doesn't seem to exist in Canada. I guess I'll just go with what the builds on pcpartpicker that use this MOBO with a 7800X3D use which is the G Skill F5-6000J3636F16GX2-FX5 Timings of: 36-36-36-96 GSkill has always treated me well, so I think I'll go with ^ kit. The only other LP kit I'm really seeing is the Team Group CTCED532G6000HC38ADC01 or CTCWD532G6000HC30DC01 Timings of: 38-38-38-78 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Final edit: Sincere thanks again, everyone. I've ordered everything. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/Gar9/saved/D8xVBm (Had a 870 Evo 4TB kicking around from Black Friday) GarTheConquer fucked around with this message at 21:15 on Mar 27, 2024 |

is55 with stock 15mm fan = 57mm height I think I read. Can't fit a A12x25 cpu fan. Set case on adjustment 4, I think (will check today.) Mounted A12x25 to bottom inside of case. PSU cables are within 2mm of touching fan blades. No space for fan grill, unfortunately. Today I shall attempt to undervolt the 7800X3D. Edit: After watching this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o50N7LnYB-8 I used the BIOS to lower Core #1 and #5 (#0 and #4 in BIOS) to -0.15. I lowered the other six cores to -0.30. Ran TimeSpy, Heaven and 12 minutes OCCP stability test and idled afterward with no apparent instability. CPU idles at 49C. GPU idles 45% silent. Above the case, there is only a bit of breathing room. unimportantguy posted:I really ought to put a bottom fan in my Terra. When the case first came out I saw people saying a bottom fan didn't do anything or actively made temps worse but everything I've seen since then seems to indicate it helps a lot. Can really feel the hot air being exhausted out the forwardmost sides from that fan while stress testing! This weekend I would like to stress test the temps with case fan working normally and with it disabled though the BIOS. Will be interesting. Edit: MSI Afterburner in too tiny on 4K TV so I've just been using NZXT CAM but it has no graph/history. Can anyone suggest a program that has a comparable time/temp graph to Afterburner? 2nd edit: I screwed up the tests. I will be back April 20 and will post results with pics. god please help me posted:My oh my, you are quite lucky I was researching how to resolve that exact problem yesterday. Here's a video that may help you. This worked perfectly! Here's what HW Monitor says after running Heaven for a while with chassis fan *off* and on *performance mode* in the MOBO settings.
