IIRC the original plan when Bryan Fuller was working on the series, was that it was going to be an anthology series. The first season would be pre-TOS, then the next would be during TNG, then into the future.

It seems to me like SNW extracted the only things of value from Disco when it spun off. Surgically excising all the things that would constitute a good show and leaving behind all the bad. Then adding a musical episode
