Who gets the most kills in a ffa between all 21 characters assuming competent players? Tracer? Who is the last above assuming permadeath?

Playing zenyatta is basically playing left 4 dead. *clanking, metallic dragging* " got a road hog around here".

I had one follow me through side streets for half of Mumbai, his foot steps became like the jaws theme. He got me once I was distracted by a fight, I never actually saw him until he surfaced.

Yes if I'm a healer or rinehart I'll verge on spamming "group up with me" because assuming you're in vaguely the right map spot you really should have some team mates.

People walking through your shield is tough because I promise you the second you drop it to try to catch up they will turn around and look at you like you're stupid.

Get in the mumble server when you want to group up. I'll be in there any time I want to play with goons; they put in an over watch channel with region sub channels.

Yup. I honestly think her mech guns are in a fine place right now. Two biggest changes I'd want to see is some more maneuverability/survivability in her pilot form and some kind of buff to her ult that makes it not complete garbage. Then I think she'd be in a great place.

The ultimate should call down an even bigger mech that her whole robot climbs into.

I play with my sensitivity very high, so I can land snap rockets and shotguns more than mid range tracking. Good I'd kill for someone as broadly useful as soldier 76 but with a shotgun.

Overwatch has loading tips with elementary descriptions of powers and match ups, stuff so simple it borders insulting, and I never saw a tip that said "If you are hosting the team, use "leave as group" or your group disbands. Don't worry though, you can just learn from experience instead!

How bad is Apex thought to be in this regard? I have my own internal rankings of the "big Three hero shooters" but it did occur to me that one could have considerably more or less cheaters.

They're on record, at some point in OW1, as saying they intentionally make new heroes OP to ensure they're played, then scale them back to what they always actually wanted the hero to be. So, just mentally disregard any initial impression of "new hero breaks game!" And also "why did this common sense nerf take so long!"

After years of trying to like OW1 the conclusion I reached is that TF2 was right to have a drop in, drop out server model that saw players come and go and a generally much more chaotic and less finely tuned match flow, and OW1 adding set teams and match making (which includes outside of ranked) was fundamentally a mistake).

I know these traits are intentionally a blending of DOTA and TF2, so I guess I'm saying OW will never be the game I want it to because it'll always be a blend of a game I love and a game I hate.

I really think that, whether you're good or bad, you'll win about half your games. Always winning about half of your games is actually what I dislikes about MMR. I liked how in TF2 I could go to a valve server to play against the equivalent of bronze players or into a named private server if I wanted to get tossed into platinum+. In MMR I'm just stuck in gold (where I belonged!!) , Winning and losing half my games forever.

I seriously think it's one of the most tiring aspects of overwatch.

Hero monetization aside, how was the beta mechanically? The big issues I recall from the end of OW1 was balancing the TTK on tanks (making a tank vulnerable while being healed leads to them being deleted when not being healed?) And too many barriers? Do I have that right? How is that now?

It's 5 heroes per side? I main healer, will my Brigitte be the only healer on the team and will I be despised for it?

I always found countering kind of tilting because, if I was getting shut down by a hero, switched to their supposed counter, and then was still losing then it was just a huge sign In was being out played, even if it eas the case that originally it was the match out and NOW, now that I've switched, now it's a matter of skill because I rarely play the second character.

I really think I'm better staying as my main and just trying to play bad match ups.

So Brig doesn't stun but now deals 50 on a charge and procs her heal. You DPS backfield mains, how much would that really deter you? I haven't actually played in a while but my memory is thet both her flail DPS and her heal rate aren't really enough to let her straight trade blows with people.

idk what they can or will do about that but if it isn't addressed it's going to drag things down so quickly

They could assign you a role. Like. You click the "I want to play!!!!" Button and it makes you a tank this time, a healer next time, a DPS, etc.

As long as it's juggling different rankings in each queue for you when match making. It should both allow them fo have queue and also not make DPS players wait (because they'll have stopped playing OW in frustration).

Great idea! Maybe you could call it the "Flexible" queue, or just shorten it to just "Flex".

Right but if it's not compulsory it doesn't actually work. If they want fixed team composition, and they want short queue times, then something has to give.

Personally I'd put the "for returning players" thing on top; I feel like the majority of people checking out OW 2 are going to be lapsed OW1 players and their first question is going to be "what's different?", and that may be "compared to the first year of 1" rather than "compared to OW1 right now ".

Looks good!

Edit: reading the proposed OP, are the only two modes cart escort and KotH now?

I think their solution is to make the new healer very appealing.

Making people play healer when they don't want to is kind of a lost cause (I mostly play support and was a TF2 medic main), but they seem to always be experimenting with variations on characters that heal "automatically" while just playing the character, like Lucio and Brig.

They seem to have made a choice in Hanamura of making the first point more or less one choke to balance the long travel time for defenders. They do this on pretty much all those maps right?

Tf2 had this problem early on. What's the map, Hoodoo? It's got a death hallway that makes the window into Hanamura's first point look like GOTY material.

What's a shame is I enjoyed playing sixes or Highlander in TF2, but it was a competitive mode built out of a game fundamentally designed for sprawling, brawling, sloppy matches of big teams, drop in drop out team comp, and ignoring the objective at least half the time. The problem is OW isn't just based off of TF2, it's based off of MOBAs, and those want tight games, set matches with a defined team you're with the whole time that you'll be judging and tilting with, and who you can come to despise instead of them existing in the relatively anonymous style of TF2.

Jack B Nimble

That's a better description of what'd I'd say is my fundamental point: the two main inspirations for this game are in fundamental tension and, as someone who came into it only wanting a successor to one of those two sides, I'm always going to be disappointed until I internalize that Blizzard isn't going to suddenly realize they've been making the game "wrong" for years.

I could go on and on about how I'd rather play inconclusively in a less rigid set up, but I can do that im arcade mode ... And the only reason I didn't play more arcade in OW1 was because I was very invested in Ranking Up as a Gamer. I had to reframe my own relation to the game. Which I still like but I had to realize it's a bit draining snd it's OK to okay to play arcade and relax. Hilariously now that I'm in a better position to appreciate OW2. they're complicating things with locking heroes behind the battle pass and just generally being revealed as a terrible company.

Jack B Nimble
Dec 25, 2007

Soiled Meat
If I understand the battle pass correctly it's not even like Apex where you can just accumulate some currency and buy a hero you want when they appear - you'll be grinding to 55 once your perfect Waifu/Himbo is released. Worse still, I worry that if you only get part way through the BP in nine weeks, you're just screwed? Don't BPs just ... Go away?
