I assume there will be separate BPs for seasonal events with extra coins each season, they couldn't be stupid enough to bungle the launch that badly.

Oh goodness, separate premium BPs for each seasonal event! I hadn't even considered that, it's devious!

Roadhog is and has always been just a fat DPS.
ACTUALLY it's not the Tanks job to do DPS; this is why Geoff decimated Roadhog's ability to deal damage to help balance the game correctly before introducing Brig.

Geoff is still lead character designer
how is that possible

Anyways, is it still fun to play as Junkrat/Roadhog/Mercy in OW2, at least? Those are my main picks for each of the class roles in OW1.

They made Junkrat take a bath so he isn't covered in soot anymore, and they made him put on pants.

They ruined him, I'm sorry you had to find out this way. :australia:

hamster was the same way. i remember someone making a similar case with it where OW had all these fairly fleshed out characters that were hugely popular with fans... and then they just released a loving hamster ball? what?

They never really bothered to give Hammond any supporting media iirc, which is disappointing since it's a tiny genius hamster who only wants to break things and watch the world burn.

Come to think of it, the last big piece of OW media was Mei's cinematic, which unfortunately got upstaged by a Junkrat short that looks like it was animated in GMod. After that, we stopped getting big things like the Sombra ARG.

You forgot to add 'PvE(???)' to the title. I may have missed it, but I didn't see any mention of PvE in your post, either. Maybe make the mention of PvE it's own little subsection instead of a single sentence.

I think there are 2 cohorts in this game.

~50% want to play a 3d, first person, team ability game. You can try to do the gun aiming thing if you want to, but you will be a bit handicapped for it. A lot of these people like playing support and tank.

~50% want to be an FPS god character in a game where they are well supported and have a tank to engage for them. In this game they get direct sight lines to the helpless enemy supports so they can make hero plays and all of their supporting cast can cheer them on. When a support starts winning duels in a way that doesn't involve headshots, "the game is broken."

Lets say the top cohort is split roughly evenly between roles, the second cohort is the one ruining the DPS queue.

Why not play valorant? Because it's it's a better ego stroke to be a ninja sniper in a world of mercies.

This is completely ignoring ing the 50% of players who gave up on Blizzard ever managing to balance a team shooter and have all their hopes riding on PvE not being a complete tire fire!

AND the 69% who only follow the game for dead-eyed SFM porn!

Apologize this instant, jerk.

Ya know I will say, for as bad as the battle pass is and the poo poo with heroes being locked to it and all that, I am quite happy for lootboxes to be removed from the arcade modes as an incentive to win. It really made mystery heroes into what should be a goofy gently caress around mode, into just a bad time because getting lootboxed depended on you winning this complete roll of the dice game mode. Now there's nothing on the line and these mods can just exist for the sake of being goofy fun
Is it? Have we actually seen what the daily challenges are going to be? Depending on whether the daily challenge is to play or win a game of MH, you could actually end up in a worse spot where some poopsocker who normally wouldn't bother with a 'casual' mode like MH now has to win to fill the battle pass.

They’ve been pretty open in the past about Overwatch being so heavily weighted toward ultimates in part because they want to give players a rush from pressing q at the right time to delete someone or completely block the other team from killing you, irrespective of how the match has been going for you in general.

And that’s fine, the problem is that Blizzard decided to push their wacky unbalanced arena shooter shitshow as a competitive game, and Overwatch is on so many levels just absolutely not well designed as a competitive game.
That's the corner the game has painted itself into. Maybe things can improve with Geoff gone and a sizable influx of new players, but that's a ways off at best.

I know my harping on the PvE mode(s) sounds like a bit by now, but I genuinely think it's going to be a necessary alternative for sustaining interest once the game starts demanding engagement through the Battle Pass.

In an ideal PvE game where you could pick any character, this would be most of the interactions (eg - Tracer & Widowmaker, Torb & Bastion, Sombra & the rest of the cast). But back when the first Jeff was still here he implied the game had a max of 8 selectable characters so who knows how far down the pipes that dream is.

The F2P unlock system looks like every detail from the initial cocktail napkin pitch was taken as sacred gospel when it was meant to be iterated out.

Junkrat, one of the most braindead simple classes to play, is less of a priority to get into the hands of new players than Ana and Widowmaker.

https://www.pcgamer.com/i-played-overwatch-2-on-a-new-account-and-the-hero-grind-sucks/

quote:

You start with a handful of heroes in each of Overwatch's three roles: four tanks, six damage, and three support. ... if you want to try anyone else from the original cast, you need to start queuing up for games. One game will clear Genji for play, two for D.Va, three for Cassidy, four for Ana, and so on, all the way up to 150 games for Echo.

The order of hero unlocks doesn't have an obvious logic to it. Genji is a popular character so I can understand why he'd be first, but he's also a highly-mobile, projectile-based flanker hero that takes a long time to learn how to be effective on him; an actually new player would be much better suited with a hero like Mei, who for some reason takes a whole 70 games to unlock. It looks like Blizzard tried to line them up based on both popularity and difficulty without realizing that's not necessarily how people choose what heroes they want to play.
