I thought I'd actually put down the J-body/Cavalier but I went for it's stablemate, the W-body. Which is really unfair; in all honesty the W-body had some pretty decent cars. I was just blinded by my hatred for the Lumina I owned.

I know a lady who has a mid 90s Cavalier with, no poo poo, well over 500K on it and still on the original engine and transmission. And the god drat thing seemingly runs fine and actually looks pretty good. She just bought a new CRV so she isn't driving it anymore, but her senior citizen uncle is now using it as his daily driver. That's got to be close to a world record for one of those.

Should have done the J-body. I was really thinking only enthusiast cars. For all the fanfare the Firebird got it was subjectively a poo poo car. The WS-6 while probably the best still had an oil consumption problem and the interior was hard to shy away from being so terrible.

I find the usual problem with "worst" car opinions is you have to take into account what the car was meant to be. For instance, Micras are basic city cars, and they do that job pretty well and reliably. So even if they're not fantastic, they're doing their job. A truly terrible car must not only be terrible on the face of it, it has to fail to do what it's meant to do, and the lower the bar, the more serious that is.

InitialDave posted:I find the usual problem with "worst" car opinions is you have to take into account what the car was meant to be. Yep, which is why the Sebring gets a slight pass over the J-body. The Sebring was vaguely more ambitious, even if it was crap. The Cavalier was trying to be just basic transport and across multiple generations they never got it right. The PT was exactly what it was supposed to be, and was only a single generation. I have a feeling I whiffed on the consistently good question, though.

I will clarify (not a complaint) that my specific answer for 11 was "Utility Land Rover", as I think the stuff from '48 onwards is all very good at what it's intended to do. It's the more "domesticated" LR products that are unacceptably shoddy (as opposed to acceptably/expectedly shoddy). The Locator posted:What in the hell made me answer Le'Car..
