I just got into the Vox Machinae playtest and its pretty great. I've only played against bots with garbage AI but the way all the cockpit controls are implemented is really neat. Its well worth signing up for if you haven't already. http://www.voxmachinae.com/index.shtml

I finally got my vr gunstock parts from a buddy that printed them up from me. I was "inspired" by the protube but am too cheap to buy one right now.The material cost was well under $20 seeing that I wasn't paying for printing other than material. I'm really happy with how it turned out. If anyone is thinking of cadding up touch accessories oculus has a cad model of the controllers you can download. I used that to model the cups and they fit like a glove. Just need the sling I ordered off amazon to arrive and its ready to go.

Trying to play standout with it without a sling is an exercise in :downsrim:

Yeah, 3D printers are printing the same plastics you see used in stuff all around you including ABS(one of the most common) and nylon(really strong).

All the black parts in that stock I posted earlier are printed in nylon and I'm honestly surprised how tough they are especially the cups which are pretty thin walled.

Its pretty much a copy of the protube design https://www.protubevr.com/. The controllers slot in the cups from above. You get the support of a stock but without occluding the controllers.

The most interesting one for me in there is you aren't allowed to ever completely cover the users view. So effectively no VR apps there always has to be an AR component.

Their violence policy is also pretty restrictive with no "realistic" depictions of violence towards people or animals.

Also no AR porn sorry anime girlfriend simulator fans.

Pretty good trailer. Almost looks like a cross between I Expect You to Die and Robo Recall. Here's hoping Oculus lives up to its word insofar as these new flagship titles being fewer but more substantial/longer than last year's. Though given the 2018 release date I am sceptical this will be more than 4 or 5 hours.

That looks great.

If you are looking for arcade shooters in space you could check out the Anshar games, or endspace. They're very arcadey.

Perhaps Rogue Squadron instead of Rebel Assault. Rogue Squadron were 3rd person arcade flight games iirc.

Holy poo poo are the specs boner-inducing:

- Steam VR 2.0 lighthouse tracking
- two 90hz Amoled panels (resolution not disclosed, but they say 16 million subpixels... I actually like that method as it is agnostic to pentile/stripe. Someone do some math and tell me if it's supposed to be 1440p pentile?)
- Tobii eye tracking with foveated rendering and automatic software IPD adjustment
- uses two USB-C cables for everything
- 210-degree horizontal FOV, 130-degree vertical
- 450 grams (20 grams less than Oculus CV1, wow), nice looking headstrap (no integrated headphones though)

I'd shell out $2000 right now to have that. Beats the gently caress out of a Vive Pro for sure.

Edit: Also, in reply to your software assertion, they claim on the site that they provide SDK tools to make it easy to adapt any game to the ultra-wide FOV, eye tracking, and even mention per-eye SLI, though all of that is easier said than done. They don't mention adapting a game to foveated rendering. I'm not sure if that's something that the Unreal Engine / Steam VR could do on it's own eventually, or if it has to be built into a game's rendering engine, I'd assume the latter.

I tried it today at Siggraph and it is super impressive. But they are very much saying they are only targeting the industrial and installation market at the moment. Still its a look at the direction things are going and its pretty drat cool.

Its wider than the vive and rift but not by that much. Certainly not as much as the Pimax. Weight wise it didn't feel much heavier than the rift. It would have been great to be able to have a rift there to compare. The strap is more like the vive pro or the psvr with an adjustment on the back. It was comfortable overall. The demo I was doing though was a car visualization thing not a game so I wasn't moving around in any sort of action way. There are some game demos apparently in different places around Siggraph so I'm going to try and get to do one of those either today or tomorrow.

It's super good. What put it over the top for me is the new map, Dyson. I liked the other maps alright, but they felt pretty straightforward to me and a lot of the games felt a little samey. Dyson is half super open and half narrow tunnels and you get a lot of games where you'll switch loadouts mid match to adapt to what the other team is doing. It's incredibly fun and allows you to play to your strengths no matter what loadout or playstyle you like.

I sincerely believe that Dyson could be Echo Combat's Blood Gulch or dust2. If you haven't checked it out yet you're really missing out. It's free to try out the movement and guns to see if you like it and the game is only $10.

Dyson is my fave map out of the ones in there so far for sure. The contrast between open space and closed is really cool. Ran into a bug in payload a couple of times last night where the payload got stuck and the game just had to time out.

I really like how echo vr handles the social aspect with the post match float around and gg / shittalk. People generally seem to be pretty chill so far :shobon:.

DCS vr does run like rear end but its also really awesome in vr fun wise. I don't think I can go back to track ir after using VR. I'm not sure if a touch controller for hitting switches etc would really be much better than a mouse though if you are using a hotas for your main controls. Using it for virtual stick and throttle would be fun to try but isn't going to be a replacement for physical controls.

It would be interesting to make a joystick gimbal and throttle gimbal with removable controller cups similar to a protube etc so you aren't having to take your hands of the touch controllers. They are lacking in buttons for modern jets but would have plenty for warbirds.
