Could it be running better now since it's done re-learning the fuel mapping after having the battery disconnected? I was under the impression that you should run the lowest octane you can without knocking. The cooler weather should help prevent knocking as well. Source: I have a '99 avalon and run 89 in it, have run 87 at times when I forgot and haven't notice any ill effects.
