Using thorium breeders (assuming a breeder reactor could produce as much energy as a standard light water reactor) would be the closest thing to free energy, with no waste and very little land occupancy. It's possible to get very cheap energy from renewables, but the sheer bulk of equipment required is where you get the problem of trying to put solar panels on every roof. They would have succeeded had the AEC not alerted the National President to membership data discrepancies (and he hadn't acted swiftly). Factional conflict on that scale could easily wreck the Young Liberals' poo poo if it's not quickly and forcefully contained.

I found a leaflet issued by the MUA and AIMEU ragging on Barnaby. They drew him as a donkey and added the slogan "Give Him The Arse - Put Barnaby Last". Nice to see some unions still care.

Are the Sex Party running any lower house candidates? If not, I'll just vote Greens for lower and Sexies for upper. If the Dems ever loving manage to get past the lovely new electoral rules and get reregistered, New England can have a goon candidate. (A question I've been meaning to ask, too: If you're an electoral candidate, are you allowed to vote for yourself?)

Having said that, I still think he did the right thing by everyone when he backed the ALP rather than the LNP.. Despite my membership in a political party with 'Democrats' in the name, the whole Brexit mess (and the number of people on facebook bleating about what a jolly good fellow Barnaby Joyce is) is starting to make me think people should have to undergo a political and social awareness test before being registered to vote, to make sure they actually understand what's going on around them. As it stands now, far too many people are either too stupid or too astonishingly ignorant to vote properly.

I voted at Tamworth High School: no sign of Barnaby (there goes my ), but Tony Windsor personally handed me a HTV. Good gods, the walk to the polling station was absolutely thick with Nationals spruikers. No sign of Greens or Sex Party and only one Shooters guy. No sausage for me 'cause I'm broke, but I'm a Salvation Army volunteer and I can get my fat and cholesterol fix at the Men's Breakfast tomorrow. Does anyone else just roll up to the phonebook person and just hand them state ID/driver's license?
