Roman is a perfectly serviceable big-but-not-that-big-man who would have been mired in the upper midcard/Kane "The champ needs an opponent for this C-PPV" level in the last few eras and can play his role in creating a 4* match against 5* talent but has been massively overpushed and overprotected because Vince and the other parts of the inner circle hitched their wagon to the next homegrown "The Guy Until He's Broken Down Or 40" creation and there's not much to lose if they're wrong since WWE is now a toy licensing company first, a film studio second and a wrestling company third.

I think the biggest problem with Roman in general is just that he's not suited for how hard they're pushing him, but I think the biggest problem with Roman now is they've inextricably linked him to the controversy surrounding how he got here. For almost the entirety of his ascent to the title they were simply ignoring the fan rejection and pretending he was a beloved underdog and everything was going great, and that was stupid and tone-deaf but consistent to both his character and story arc, right up to Stephanie going full-on Dark Empress and making Roman out to be the people's champion. Silly and objectively stupid, but consistent. For some reason, once they finished the Wrestlemania push they decided it was time to give some sort of concession to reality, and Roman became the smirking too-cool-for-it-all not-a-good-guy they acknowledge a lot of the crowd dislikes who sort of openly bullies people, except he's also the champion everyone should love and the people opposing him are weasels and heels so you should like him, and they then proceeded to book him against maybe the guy the people who dislike Roman most want to see succeed in AJ and are now following that up with Seth, who that same crowd also specifically wants to cheer. Even if I was never on the Roman train, they were making a consistent case for him and by just ignoring the whole thing there was at least a chance he could establish his own identity. Now they've made a huge part of his identity specifically about a ton of people disliking him.

I'd like him more if WWE would stop muting the crowd mics and the commentary team acknowledged that he is getting booed out of the building rather than the crowd being 50/50 and wacky and nonsensical in [CITY NAME] Maggle

He's a wrestler that is good at the main event WWE style and plays his part very well when he's put with. He's by no means a bad wrestler and I generally expect his matches to be good. Unfortunately everything else about him just loses it for me. He's a poor talker when he's doing anything other than grinding out a few catchphrases laden lines then standing there looking half asleep. He's booked against people that outmatch him in most qualities and while this generally results in good matches it also leads to short sighted situations like returning Rollins as a heel to be his sacrificial lamb. Almost every crowd boos the poo poo out of him or is totally indifferent to him. I don't think the situation is going to get any better either, its been bungled way too many times.
