I just remember in the show he spotted it right away so if there is no visible difference he must have been told by his staff before going in. The larva float out in the bay so any difference is environmental in later life stages. It may result in differences, but to go back to the dog analogy it wouldn't be like two different breeds it would be like two dogs from the same litter raised in different homes.
