If I actually take the time to think about it, it's pretty much because it gives me comfort. It provides me with a person to talk to when I'm alone, comfort for my fear of death, a community and way to connect with people. I would never attempt to legislate based on my religious belief (especially because I believe that everyone goes to heaven), and it's a very personal thing for me, mostly because it's mostly for my own benefit.
