Try using smoked paprika instead of liquid smoke essence, see which you prefer! If you are making a kosher sauce, use soy sauce instead of Worcestershire sauce.

Mustard paste sure, but you can get away with a little mustard seed powder.

I like to complement the sweet and sour BBQ sauce with a nice Aioli ,or mayo ground with dried thyme, basil and parsley herbs to a nice green consistency.

Which type of honey do you use? Here in Israel you have to make an effort to find anything other than the plain mixed wildflower kind. I had tasted some nice avocado flower honey but the flavour wasn't pronounced enough for an acidic sauce.

I just read the wiki page, what the gently caress Alabama!? Mayo does not belong in a BBQ sauce! Mayonnaise is an oil based condiment and will be served separate from any vinegar based sauces!

Mmm, Stubbs is mostly: Tomato Paste, Cane Sugar, Distilled Vinegar. I assure you that even a complete novice can create a better sauce simply by substituting for tastier ingredients.

Now this gives me an idea for fruity olive oil and OJ Vinaigrette, possibly with a touch of tarragon.
