This is intriguing but I know myself better than to commit to something like this on a whim.

And beyond the commitment issue, in my limited experience I'm just flat out bad at fantasy sports. What are the consequences of failure? Shame? Taunting?

With the 20th overall pick the Chicago Blackhawks select Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

He's about to turn 25, he scores a lot, he's signed for 3 more years at $5.5 per, and he has great fancy stats on a team with abysmal possession. Maybe 20th is too high for him - but the way the league treats #1D these days and with his age and AAV I don't think there's a better value right now.

Everybody knows OEL is good but now that he's in Chicago and not Arizona he should get the recognition he deserves.

And, if nothing else, I know he can be a stud on an awful team. I'd like to think I can draft a better team than the Arizona Coyotes, but if when I don't, then my #1 defenseman will at least be used to it.

Klingberg was actually giving OEL a run for his money at #20.

Oliver's a better two-way player and I was wary that John's fancy stats were way too inflated by playing on the Stars so OEL won out.

With the 41st pick the Chicago Blackhawks select Mark Scheifele.

His goal scoring may take a step back (his shot % in the second half last year was nuts), but he established himself as a legit 1C and I'm confident he's going to sign a long, fair value contract this summer.

Once again I'm making what feels like a homer pick but this time it's because he fell into my lap.

Last year he was the 17th defenseman selected, this year he falls to 29th. Over the past two seasons he was 4th among D-men in G/60 and top 15 in P/60.

He's so good at scoring goals he broke his HERO chart:

Yes, he is over 30 with an AAV of $7.6m, but he's only signed for five years (not ten) and his NMC only covers the next two years. And, honestly, you just can't put a price on the way this big man plays.

With the 80th pick, the Chicago Blackhawks are proud to announce the return of Dustin Byfuglien.

With the 101st pick the Chicago Blackhawks select Brandon Saad.

I need goal scoring and Saad was 12th in G/60 last year, on the Blue Jackets, with an only slightly-inflated shooting percentage. He's 23 and his contract covers most of his productive years. I know it broke his little heart going to Columbus last year so now that he's a Blackhawk again he'll be happy. Happy players keep their track suits dry.

It's a risky pick since we haven't seen him play in the NHL yet or even on NA-sized ice. But I think he has the size and the skating ability to jump in and succeed right away. And I want at least one good player on an ELC for cap reasons.

With pick 221 the Blackhawks select Dylan Strome since arguing about prospects is so much fun.

All right, with pick 260 Chicago selects Ryan Strome. He's a natural center but played on the wing last year, his goal scoring stepped back but otherwise he had decent stats per 60 and shot generation. He's not signed yet so who knows what kind of contract he's going to end up with? That's exciting. Plus I already drafted Dylan and it's fun when brothers play together.

Lowry is going to end up as an ideal forth line center in the NHL. Reliable and effective and cheap because he doesn't score that much.
