the saline just slowly gets absorbed into your blood but in the meantime you got a big round smooth distended nutsack

if the adjective "virtuosity" doesn't sound insufferably pretentious to you, you probably already are a frank zappa fan, but if you're not, gice him a look. i bet u like what yuo see

I'm going to have to admit that I had never heard of Frank Zappa until after hearing "Genius in France" on Weird Al's album Poodle Hat.

So, I had to find out more about this Zappa fellow and picked up You Are What You Is. Hooked ever since.

On that note, I think an underrated song from YAWYI is...

No mention of 200 Motels? I'm a fan of the early Zappa/Mothers of Invention era, and Joe's Garage. I'm more into that early sound that the Mothers created. Lots of great tunes and silly songs that had to be censored for radio play back in the day.

Saw ZPZ in Albany NY for the 40th anniversary of Roxy & Elsewhere. It was an incredible show, they played the whole album pretty much note for note, and they even did the skits! Dweezil also does guitar workshops before the shows, he's a really cool guy.

I saw this show too, Victoria BC. Tons of fun. Got him to sign my Duckman DVDs afterward.

the one album i kinda like is "we're only in it for the money" because it's basically just him saying "the whole loving east coast moved here and hosed up san francisco for everyone else" which really is a timeless message anyone of any generation can relate to

Frank Zappa made lots of music like that. Also, the vocals on that song are sung by Lowell George. If you like that song, and don't know who Lowell George was, you should check out Little Feat:

I know he made a whole bunch, most notably Cruising with Reuben and the Jets, but it's still not enough. I also knew that Lowell George was the vocals on that song, but I only yesterday found out that Roy Estrada was also part of Little Feat.

Also, didn't Roy Estrada wind up screwing around with a minor and wind up in jail? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Always gotta post this fun fact:

Frank Zappa invented iTunes/Spotify basically, as a cable driven on-demand purchase driven audio streaming service. In his autobiography he talks about trying to sell studios and telecom companies on the idea and it failing to gain traction.

It was published in 1990.

Man I need to order that book. I haven't read it since high school in the late 90's. I remember it being lots of great stories, his theories on music, and IIRC, whacky libertarian politics. I'd like to see how I feel about his opinions 20 years later.

What is your purpose?!

I just wanna rock!
The only reason I know Zappa is cuz a friend from high school loved singing "Catholic Girls" but only like random lines in the middle of conversation. He also did that with Type O Negative songs.

Joe's garage is great. That's my two cents!

His satirical stuff from the late 60's was pretty funny and dead-on, but a lot of his later stuff is less insightful and more juvenile and not really funny to me. A lot of his later lyrics are really just there for the sake of having vocals in my opinion- the instrumentals are the real focus of the song.
