No mention of 200 Motels? I'm a fan of the early Zappa/Mothers of Invention era, and Joe's Garage. I'm more into that early sound that the Mothers created. Lots of great tunes and silly songs that had to be censored for radio play back in the day.

Took a course on Frank Zappa at IU, truly awesome. Especially loved Ruben and the Jets and Waka/Jawaka. The slide guitar on One Shot Deal is amazing.

Man I need to order that book. I haven't read it since high school in the late 90's. I remember it being lots of great stories, his theories on music, and IIRC, whacky libertarian politics. I'd like to see how I feel about his opinions 20 years later.

I think it's awesome that he cut his hair, shaved, and wore a nice suit to those TV/Congress appearances on censorship. You know those fuckers probably hated that he didn't show up in wacky clothing and long hair so they could take potshots.

The only reason I know Zappa is cuz a friend from high school loved singing "Catholic Girls" but only like random lines in the middle of conversation. He also did that with Type O Negative songs.
