my turn in the barrel
Dec 31, 2007

My favorite was how when he shat on a film he went out of his way to lay out his displeasure.

quote:

"I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering, stupid, vacant, audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it." —From "North" review

quote:

This movie doesn't scrape the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't below the bottom of the barrel. This movie doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with barrels. —From "Freddy Got Fingered" review

The best was his feud with Rob Schneider over a critic who left a bad review for Deuce Bigalo 2. Rob Schneider took out ads slamming the critic for never winning a Pulitzer. Ebert then included this in his review for the movie.

quote:

"Schneider is correct, and Patrick Goldstein has not yet won a Pulitzer Prize," Ebert said at the close of the review. "As chance would have it, I HAVE won the Pulitzer Prize, and so I am qualified. Speaking in my official capacity as a Pulitzer Prize winner, Mr. Schneider, your movie sucks."
