Soon, it's game time.

Tuesday, May 29

: What's up?

: Oh my... take a look at this!

: Is this your lunch?

: Not really. It's a bunch of new foods I made!

: "New foods?"

: Oh dear... Is there something wrong with that?

: No, it's just-

: You can tell me if there is, you know. Is there?

: Never mind, it was nothing.

: Oh, well, if you're sure...

: It just really smells like vanilla...

: Heh, I'm glad you noticed! Oh, that makes me happy.

: Any reason?

: I decided to give good old vanilla a kick and "reinvent" it!

: So all these foods have a vanilla flavor to them?

: Most certainly!

: Even thoose noodles?

: They sure do!

: Great...

Would try.

: Sure, it couldn't hurt.

: Great!

Game: She offers you a small plate with some noodles on it, and waits for you to taste.

: Well? What do you think?

: Um...

: Oh... no. You hate it!

: It's not that-

: Don't lie to me, Goon! I can see it written all over your face. You shouldn't lie to others, sweetie.

: Sorry...

: Well, at least you tried it. It's better to try and not like it than not try at all!

: Yeah, that's true.

: Maybe I should revisit this recipe...

Sweet noodles, huh... Wonder what that would go well with.

My computer just decided to die at this point. Had to rerecord like 2 minutes of footage, very tragic stuff.

We get the third year cultural festival prep scene again but we have a new option this time.

: I can' t help but feel this is all for nothing, guys.

: What, Goon-kun?

: Something just tells me that this isn't going to happen. Like, something will keep it from going on.

: But I want to!

: Calm down, Suzu...

: Yeah... what could possibly happen?

And with that, we don't have to do anything for the 3rd year cultural festival. This comes from having perks!

We call up Rena.

: What?!

: Uh, you sound angry...

: Aya made fun of me again! ARGH!

Rena smash?

: What happened?

: She found one of my doodles, a bear in a cute party hat doing a wiggly dance-

...Perhaps my MSPaint days are gone now.

: And told me that she can't believe that someone who's so childish like me can do well in school!

: Wow, that's harsh.

: I'm not childish! I just like doodling cute things!

Oh, come on. This is too easy.

: Sure, there's nothing wrong with doodling. In fact, your grades are even better than hers, aren't they?

: Yes, but she was still really mean!

: Yeah...

: I just don't understand why she has to put me down all the time...

: Some people are just like that...

: Well, people shouldn't be like that!

: You two have been at odds for a while, haven't you?

: Some people just don't get along. I wouldn't get too worked up over it.

: I know... it's just annoying.

: I understand.

: I just have to remember not to let her get to me...

: Yeah, that's good to keep in mind. Just ignore her if she gets on your case.

: I'll try...

: Good.

: Well, I think I'm going to go. I'll talk to you later.

: Okay, bye!

Really not looking forward to Aya's route.

Wednesday, June 27

: I want an honest opinion.

What a trivial thing to get XP for...

: Sure thing. What do you want to know?

: It's not as important as a lot of other things.

: That's what I think, too. Thanks, I just wanted another opinion... but...

: But...?

: See... I've been feeling self-conscious about my table manners lately. I think I might be a bit rude... and I was wondering if it makes people think differently of me.

: You want me to ask Kiku for you?

: Would you really ask her?

: Sure. Hold on. Key, Kiku, come here.

: Yes?

: Could you give Alice here some lessons on table manners?

: I do not see why not. It could be nice.

: Thanks.

: Please come to my house after school, Alice. I will review the basics with you.

: Wow, thanks! You're a lifesaver, Kiku.

Well, that was easy XP.

I spend that XP on Fitness. Not sure what to get next, I might just flip a coin or something.

Exams come and go, nothing much to say about them.

Wednesday, July 18

: Hmm?

: You got a perfect score on your literature text, did you not? It is something you should be very happy about.

pretty sure that's a typo and meant to be "test" not "text" but whatever

: Thank you.

: I will. Thank you.

Weird to think we hadn't got that yet. I think.

finally, new ground

and that drat song

Always good to bully Aya. :allears:

Friday, August 31

Game: Suddenly, you spy a small box on your bed, wrapped like a gift.

: What's this for...?

Game: You shake it around and hear nothing inside. It feels quite light as you hold it. You also see a small, heart-shaped tag with your name on it.

: I guess it's for me, so I can open it...

Game: You open the box but find that it's empty.

: What the...

Here we go!

:siren: Click to hear the worst song in the game! And to see the video, I guess. :siren:

Game: The box is gone.

That was Satsuko's power, wasn't it? And more feelings... But why didn't she appear this time...?

Welcome to Rena's route. This'll be... interesting.

Game: Your head still swarms with the thoughts of the vision you saw.

: Oh, hi, Rena.

: The first day of school has been wonderful already. And I know it'll just get more wonderful from here. I'll have to do something special with you to celebrate our last year of school. Maybe teach you some art?

Was that what she meant by showing me how she sees the world in her vision?

: But I must be off! I have so many more people to greet the semester with.

Tuesday, September 4

: Wait!

: Oh, of course! We need a ref!

: Uh...

: Hey, Naoko!

: Would you be the referree for our race?

: Certainly, dear! On your mark... get set... GO!

Game: You and Aya run down the hall and back.

I have no clue why the screen is shaking but it sure is.

: You OBVIOUSLY cheated.

: Nope! He won fair and square. You run fast, Goon.

The screen is still shaking. Not sure why this only appeared now but it doesn't really matter.

Wednesday, September 5

Game: Suddenly, you hear a gentle mew.

We had a school cat?

: Here kitty, kitty...

Game: As you bend down to pet the cat, he rubs against your hand and teasingly dashes a few steps down the hallway.

: Where are you going?

Game: You turn to go and begin walking in the opposite direction. All of a sudden, you feel something heavy strike you in the backside.

What the hell?! What did it do that for?!

Game: The cat dashes down a few steps down the hallway and turns back to look at you.

I don't recall Goon swearing much. Mind you, I don't keep an eye out for it.

Game: You continue walking in the direction that it went, when suddenly you hear a meowing sound right by your feet.

Huh?

Game: The cat is holding a piece of paper in its mouth, looking up at you expectantly.

Weird...

: What is this...?

: Heh, you kind of look like a tiger with those stripes.

Game: Oddly, the cat seems to smile, but dashes off.

: Huh?

: Kiku?

: I was just hoping to catch a glimpse of you, and here you are!

I figured mentioning the cat might be a bad idea. I feel like I've either missed or forgotten an event relating to this cat...

: Oh, how sweet... Well, I hate to be rude, but I have stayed a bit too late today and have to rush home... See you tomorrow, Goon-kun.

: Okay, see you.

Game: As you begin to head out of school, you pass by the art room and notice that someone is still there. You peek into the art room and see Rena surrounded by colorful paper.

: Sorry, did I scare you?

: Hehe, it's okay...

: What brings you here after school? Oh, don't tell me! You were brought here because my secrets wanted to be shared!

: Secrets...?

: Oh, come look!

Game: Rena grabs your hand and drags you over to where she was sitting. She hands you a piece of paper.

: Watch me, and do what I do.

: ...

It's no shrapnel launcher but a sword is good too!

: Why are they secret?

: Oh, I've created the combination and style of folds myself.

: Oh, I see. That's cool.

: Now, try and make these all again on your own! Part of my technique is to make the artist really think about the folds. It should be difficult for someone to reproduce right away.

Game: You work the paper for a bit, trying to follow her techniques, but cannot fold anything recognisable.

: I guess I need practice...

: Deep in your mind, you remember exactly how to fold these, even if I've only showed you once. Work hard and you will be able to bring out skills you never knew you had!

: Great, I'll be sure to practice.

With that, we've gained access to the temporary Origami action.

Cute. Progress on this is slow though so that'll take a while.

Friday, September 14

: Oh not much, just on our way to lunch!

: Naoko said she was going to make her famous butter cookies for lunch today! I hope she cut them into cute shapes!

Yep, that was the transition.

: I think you'd like it!

: Well, I guess it couldn't hurt to try...

: Huh...?

: Hey Lorde-san, would you eat mangoes with natto?

: It sounds absolutely horrendous, doesn't it?

: Weren't Alice and Rena just here?

: Are you even listening, Lorde-san? Pay attention!

: Er, sorry...

: Heehee, most people do not have an appetite for natto, anyway.

: Especially Alice. She nearly runs out of the room if you even mention it!

: I think the smell is the problem for most... It can be rather offensive if you are not used to it.

Would not eat.

: I could be onto something here!

: I don't know about that...

: Of natto and mangoes...?

: Ugh, totally gross! Don't blank out and come back to us with something so nasty.

: Did I go off somewhere...?

: Yeah, you spaced out for a few minutes.

: Welcome back!

: Weird, I could have sworn Kiku and Aya were just here...

: Oh? What were they talking about?

: Well, Aya asked me if I would eat mangoes with natto...

: Yum!

: Ugh, what's with all the natto talk today? I'm getting sick just thinking about the stuff...

: That was a fun thought Goon-chan, I wouldn't worry about it.

: Yeah, I'm sure you're just tired today or something.

: Alright...

: Well, if you're okay, then I guess we'll see you later.

: Bye Goon-chan!

ugh

alas, we failed to craft a many times folded origami sword

Monday, September 17

: It's not even worth explaining to you.

: Yo, Lorde-san, do you think there's any worth in this stupid little paper sword?

: The little paper sword is cute.

: Right, and not everything has to be done so literally, Aya!

: Yeah...

: What do you mean?

: You wouldn't understand.

: Quit saying that!

: What DO you mean, Rena?

: Well, emotions carry through everything you do. Touch is very important, it's the means of transferring your being from one thing to another.

: Oh, I think I get it...

I don't but please continue.

: Can you put it in people-terms, then?

: Well, Rena thinks your thoughts and emotions can be transferred into things.

: So...?

: For example, if you're making an origami as a gift, warm thoughts of the recipient might transfer through the gift to the person.

: Exactly right!

: That's SUCH crap, Lorde-san. You really think this stupid piece of paper means anything?

: Huh?

Game: You see a small paper cut on Aya's finger.

: How could she if you didn't believe her idea about emotions in the first place?

: What? She did what she did, Lorde-san!

: I didn't mean to hurt you, Aya, but it's a lesson to you to not make fun of things you don't understand!

Rena means business...

: Yeah, well, keep your stupid lessons to yourself! If you touch me again I'm going straight to the principal!

The sword actually was infused with the emotion of "loving try me, I'll cut you", huh...

That was neat.

I've completely lost track of which of these I've shown but I've also stopped caring. Here, have one to break up a lot of text.

Also, we dunked on Hiroshi again.

Friday, October 5

: Hey, are you okay?

: Oh, Goon-chan?

: You look like you need some rest...

: Oh... do I? Ohhh...

Game: Rena grabs her head, her face contorting in pain.

: Oww... headache...

: When did you start having this headache?

: Are you allergic to pollen, maybe?

I'm not sure why I picked this. She's been in the club for 2 years already.

: No, I've already been to my doctor, and he says I'm not allergic to anything... I don't know what it is... but it happens so often now.

: I see...

: Sure, of course.

: Thank you...

: Feeling better?

: Good, I'm glad.

: I wish I knew what was going on with me... I've been gettign them for the past few weeks, mostly after horticultural club... I'm so tired of feeling this way. I'm thinking...

: What?

: I'm not even sure if there's a connection, but maybe I should quite the club just in case.

: Cherry pit collection...?

: Oh, cherry pits are so nice!

: Oh...

: So... what do you think, Goon-chan?

: Not if you enjoy it.

: Oh, I just don't know... maybe I'll skip a few meetings just to see if it helps... Oh, I've been meaning to ask!

: Oh sure, that would be great.

: Great, it'll be so much fun! Well, my house is right over here. Thank you for walking me home! I feel much better to have gotten all of that out. And when I feel just a bit better, I'll let you know when we can draw together.

Yeah, I'm keeping an eye on Phantom Thief news.

That origami is taking a while. It'll take about a month at minimium, probably close to 1 and a half.

Monday, October 8

: Hey, what's up?

: I am glad I ran into you. Do you know if Rena is okay?

: What do you mean?

: She seemed to love being in the horticulture club so much. It is unlike her to stop coming altogether.

: She thinks her headaches might be coming due to horticultural club.

: I see... I have not been able to track her down myself lately, so that is good to know. Wish her the best for me, okay?

: Sure thing.

: Please don't worry about me, I'll be fine.

: Oh, sorry, Rena. I was just asking Goon-kun because I was unable to find you myself.

: Teehee, I can be elusive as a frightened tanuki sometimes! I'm only taking a little break from horticultural club, to see if that's what's causing my headaches. I can't help but miss it, though. It calls to me like a siren's beautiful song. I do hope I can come back soon.

: I see. Well, please take your time and get better. Your health is the only thing that matters.

: That's so sweet. Thank you, I will!

: Why do you say that?

: I was looking for you to see if you want to draw in the park with me.

: Oh, sure.

: Great, I'll see you then. I can't wait!

Friday, October 12

: And why do you say that?

: So you can have more hands to draw with, teehee!

: Hehe...

: Teehee, I thought of that one all by myself! I liked it and thought I'd share.

: Where do you want to draw?

: Oh, let's go under my favorite tree, since I'm feeling so much better today!

: Okay, sure.

: I so love that tree...

: I've always wanted to draw with someone else...

: Oh? Is this your first time?

: Not since I was little. I know Naoko and Alice would enjoy it, but they're always busy. I don't mind drawing by myself. I feel like my ideas can thicken like onion custard that way.

: I'm glad to be here, then.

: Maybe next time we can bring real tea, too. Then we can have a physical as well as mental tea party! Here.

Game: Rena hands you some sheets of paper and a fancy-looking pencil with a shiny tip.

: Is this a special pencil?

: Oh, that will certainly come in handy.

: Any other kind will get you too bogged down in details because the lines are more permanent and harder to erase... You'll want to be perfect the first time and worry too much. So I think you'll find this will help a lot. You have to see the ladybug before you can know its name!

: Oh, okay...

Game: You and Rena begin sketching as you chat.

: Hmm...

: Oh, do you want to see?

: Yup! Hey, I see a tanuki!

: Oh, do you?

: Yeah, it's wonderful!

Game: She leans in to take a closer look.

: Oh, you think so?

: Yes, absolutely! You really have skill... but let me show you this!

: Huh?

Game: Rena takes out a sheet of paper which already has a drawing on it. It is a vibrantly colored world with tanuki roaming about freely.

The picture in question.

: Oh, it's beautiful.

: Oh, thank you! It's one of my favorite places...

: What do you mean?

: It's just somewhere I know well...

: It seems like a nice place.

: Teehee, I knew it...

: Huh?

: You are one of the special people who can understand... Maybe you're the only one... I knew it when I was with you the other day... when my headache went away... I told you when we made origami together... sometimes the smallest things can open the biggest doors...

: Interesting...

I don't get it but I do know this would be the part in life where you nod and pretend you understand.

: Ah, but that's enough for today! That was really wonderful, Goon-chan... Here.

Game: She takes a small box out of her bag and hands it to you. You open it and find two new pencils, like the ones used today.

: Take it! I hope they serve you well.

This ending looks like it'll take about 3 updates to cover so let's stop here for now.

Monday, October 15

: Poor kitty, what happened to you?

: Hey, you!

Game: She pauses a moment then, looking a little surprised.

: Huh...?

: What's wrong?

: There are some scratches on him... How could this have happened?! This is NOT a fighting cat!

: Hmm, could be...

: I better go find Kiku. Maybe the cat shelter is broken or something... Kitty, you better not be getting into fights with other cats! Anyway-

This cat is hella popular.

: Yo, Suzu. You didn't mess with my cat, did you?

: Of course not. Why would you say that? I wouldn't touch it.

: Because you're weird and make stuff I don't even want to begin to understand in that shop of yours.

: Have you seen anything weird with that cat lately, Suzu?

: Something weird with kitty? No...

: Okay, thanks. That's all we wanted to know.

Game: Out of the corner of your eye, you spot Rena with her head down on her desk. She stays that way for a moment, then raises it again.

Are the headaches she was telling me about back, then? I hope they're not distracting her from the test.

One of those small events that's just there to remind of you who's route you're on.

: Hey, you should consider yourself lucky. You have Naoko as your partner. She is quite good at science.

: But still! I don't want to do all this extra work and research!

: You better not take advantage of Naoko's kindness, Aya. That would be rude.

: Hey, what about your partner!

She's not wrong here. We've failed a looot of those tests this run.

: Well...

I agree, we should spend more time with Minion #2. Maybe next run.

: Aya...

: Er, when should we meet...?

: Hmm, next Monday after school is the only time I have open, unfortunately. Let us meet at that time in the library, okay?

: Really?

: It is a shame. She always makes such vibrant ikebana... I am starting to wonder if there is some kind of illness going around.

: Ugh, are you kidding me?! I don't want to catch anything!

: Yui looks sicker and sicker at each meeting... I feel fine, though...

: Fine, fine...

: Okay, so I will see you at the library next Monday, Goon-kun.

: They have eight paired arms in addition to two longer ones, they're cephalopods, they have bilateral symmetry...

The second answer is also true but it's a little less impressive of an answer to those who don't understand the finer things in life.

: Oh wow, you really know your stuff. Glad we are working together on this. I prefer octopi myself, but I see you are a squid man.

: Hehe...

Both of those are good and you should try some octopus if you get a chance. Octopus can be a bit hard to find though.

Game: You and Kiku dig into squid books for the next few hours.

: Goon-kun, may I ask you a question?

: Sure, what is it?

: Of course.

: Do you know if she is okay? It was really bizarre... I walked by her at school yesterday and she seemed completely out of it. Like she was just a body walking around.

: Did you try talking to her?

: Yes, I asked her if she was okay, and she just gave me this really blank stare and kept walking...

: That IS bizarre. I wonder what's going on...

: I do not really know what to do.. I guess we just have to wait and see...

We have a quick fade to black here.

: Alright, good work today, Goon-kun. I will type up our findings, and we should be good to go.

: Goon-chan... Goon-chan?

: Uh, you tell me...

: And everything was rotten and black like it was dying, and it's not supposed to be like that... And then it leaped out at me and started to chase after me... And it... it killed all those tanuki just to get to me faster! Oh Goon-chan, what have I done?!

: Where were you...?

: I was where the tanuki live... I've shown it to you before...

: The tanuki world from that picture...?

: Yes... But it's not like that anymore! Something happened and now... that thing's ruined it...

: What "thing"?

: It was... pure evil... Even the dead must have rejected it... And now it's going after my world... why MY world?!

: Well... whatever it is, I'll help you.

: I... I know... Because... I know you can open your mind... You've proven it to me before... And I know... you've practiced...

Not quite sure what to make of the enemy from that.

Yui's gone again. Phone calls can't reach her either.

: Rena?

: Goon-chan, I know it's late, but...

: It's okay, what's up?

: Goon-chan, I don't know what's going on anymore...

Game: She sounds like she is on the verge of tears.

: The tanuki world keeps getting worse. More tanuki keep dying, and the world itself is wilting... And on top of it, something's happened to Hiroshi. He's been coming home from university more often, but he won't talk to me anymore... What's happening to me, Goon-chan?! I keep having horrible nightmares and pounding heaches. I can't even go to school anymore, and I'm falling so far behind... I may not be able to make up all my work at this rate.

: I don't know what to tell you...

: That's okay, Goon-chan...I... I don't know anything anymore, Goon-chan...

Game: Rena sobs and sobs, until she eventually trails off into slumber without another word.

: Rena...

Fade to black.

Where am I...?

Game: As you look around your surroundings, you see something leap up at you.

Ahh!

Game: You manage to get a grip on the tanuki and hurl him a few feet away. It seems stunned momentarily, but then charges back towards you, squealing.

: Rena?!

: Goon-chan, I'm so sorry! Please don't be mad! He didn't know you were a friend.

Game: She bends down and pets the tanuki on the head.

: He apologizes...

: What's going on...?

: Everything's being destroyed...

: You said there was some evil being here...?

: I...

: Don't be afraid.

: I AM afraid... I... I can't help it. This... evil thing destroys everythng it encounters... Hmm?

Game: Rena bends down near the tanuki, as if she is listening to it.

: Huh?

: He says you've been standing on quicksand for a long time now. Haven't you noticed you're sinking? Going deeper and deeper into the ground...

Game: It takes you a moment to figure out where you are, the images still vivid inside of your head. You are back in your room, with your phone still in your hand, as if none of that had ever happened.

: Rena? Rena, are you still there?

I like how this route is giving us a small peak as to what's going on with yui and hiroshi in the middle of going to literal tanuki world. I can't believe Rena has control of the collective unconscious in a small way.

Game: A few days later...

I hope she picks up...

: I'm probably out drawing ant paths or making sweaters for silk worms. After all, it's about time we give back to them: they give silk for us, but maybe they themselves are cold? Please leave a message, or maybe write me a nice letter... goodbye!

Maybe tomorrow...

And the next day...

Game: After school the next day, you are thinking about the dream you had a few nights earlier.

: I wonder if she will answer if I call now...

Game: You pick up your phone and dial Rena's number.

: Hello, you have reached Rena's phone. I'm probably out drawing ant paths or making...

: drat, she's not in again.

And the next day, the event triggers again.

Game: You still cannot get the dream out of your mind.

Game: You pick up the phone and dial.

: Hello, you have reached Rena's phone. I'm probably out-

I'd assumed we were using mobile phones but have we been calling the house phone this entire time?

: Hiroshi?

: Dammit, Lorde-san, are you the one who keeps calling?

: What's going on? Is everything okay?

: It's nothing that involves you, so just butt out and stop calling.

Game: He hangs up without saying another word.

: What are we going to do?

Friday, November 30

: Hey Naoko...

: Have you seen Rena lately?

: Rena? No, I haven't. She has been really sick, but Hiroshi's been home a lot lately so I wouldn't worry.

: Have you actually talked to her, though?

: No, I've called her house though and got through to Hiroshi, who told me what was going on.

: Weird, I called Rena a few times and it took me a long time to get through to anyone...

: Hmm, that IS odd...

: I wonder what's up...

: Too bad we have school. I'd love to go to the park right now...

At this point, Naoko does this weird horizontal rotatation animation. Imagine something from Paper Mario turning around.

: Naoko?

: Yes?

Sudden transition.

: I said no!

Those two just appeared out of thin air.

: Though maybe today isn't the best day...

: What's going on?

: Do you think I should talk to Alice about it?

Sudden transition again.

: You can't keep the kitty all to yourself!

Suzu starts flipping around too.

: Yeah, well you could have asked.

: I would have!

: Can you guys hear me?

: Of couse I can eat that orange!

: You're just being mean! You big robot-face!

: No need for name-calling.

: Satsuko!!!

This was just a normal transition.

: *yawn* What is it at this late hour...?

: Was that all real?!

: What?

: I just had the craziest dream...

: Oh?

: Maybe you can tell me what it means?

: Sure, explain!

: I was in school, and it seemed okay, but then...

: And then...?

: All of a sudden, everyone was flat like paper, and everything started changing around me...

: Hey, I'm being serious!

: Sorry...

: What do you think it could mean?

: Hmm, how strange... I think it's a warning, for a few different reasons...

: What should I do?

: Just be extra careful, and be prepared to expect the unexpected.

: ...

: No, Goon, I would never put you in any danger! Teehee! You know I'll keep you safe. Don't worry about anything, okay?

Game: She gently wipes the sweat from your forehead with a damp towel.

: Now let me tuck you back in, and you get a good night's sleep. You're going to need it.

Monday, December 3

: Hey Naoko...

: Have you seen Rena lately?

: Rena? No, I haven't. She has been really sick lately, but Hiroshi's been home a lot for some reason so I wouldn't worry. He's such a dear toward his sister. I know he'll take good care of her.

: Yeah, you're probably right.

: Oh my, isn't it gorgeous outside? Too bad we have school. I'd love to go to the park right now...

: Naoko, are you okay?

: I had a dream about all of this...

: Oh my, really?

Where are Suzu and Kiku...?

This time, these two came in normally.

: I won't hurt it!

: What's going on?

: Suzu wants to use the cat for some kind of... thing... to chase Kazuki with.

: It'll be fun! You're just being mean! You big robot-face!

: No need for name-calling.

: I don't think he would appreciate that, Suzu...

: Of course I can eat an orange... what does that have to do with anything?

: I think you mean lemon or something, Suzu.

: Aww... go eat a lemon!

: Oh my, time to go...

: Wait, I had a dr-

: Sorry, Goon, I hate being late for class! Please tell me later, okay?

: But-

: Wait, we're not done, Kiku!

: We are done, Suzu.

: Aww...

The tests come up on Friday again but they don't really matter at this point.

Sunday, December 9

*sigh* Guess I better get started...

: Satsuko? What are you doing here?

: It's way past your bedtime, mister!

: It is?

: What?! Can't you tell?

For reference, there's only no night set of background images for this room but they do apply a tint to it for night time. It's not up right now.

: It's daylight inside outside.

: What?

Caught the paper flippy thing mid-animation but uh, it doesn't really get the idea across.

Satsuko too? How can this affect Satsuko?

: Goon? Goon? (flips) Are you listening to me...?

Sudden transition again.

: Back here again...?

: Goon-chan!! I know you'd come back to help me, Goon-chan! I just knew you would...

: Rena?

: I can't get out of here anymore...

: Where is the monster?

: I don't know... I feel the monster's presence everywhere. I think he's sucking up the life force of the tanuki to gain enough power to take over. But if he does... what will happen to me? Will I go to where Yui is...?

: Here, take this. Since this is your last time here.

: My last time here? What do you mean?

: I don't know... I just feel in my heart... that you should have it... Because he knows you're strong... and he wil try to keep you away...

: Okay...

: Oh, and Goon-chan...

: Yes?

: Be careful of them. They're one and the same, but one hurts the other.

This doesn't make any sense in the context of Rena's route but this might be talking about Satsuko.

: What? Who? Rena?

What's happening?

Sudden transition here too.

Game: You look down and see the drawing in your hand.

What could I possibly need this for...?

: Satsuko? Where are you?

Game: Even after calling for her several times, she does not show up. You pick up your phone and try calling several of your friends, but nobody answers.

What has happened to everyone?

Monday, December 10

: I didn't see anyone on the way here, either...

Game: Your footsteps echo through the silent, empty halls.

Game: The room looks as if it has not been used in days. You walk over and sit down where Rena had taught you her origami that day.

: I wonder if I can make Rena's origami...

Good thing there's still some origami paper lying around.

Game: You pick up a piece and try to decide what to fold.

Huh? Whoa!

: How did it...?

Game: You look around, but everything is silent and deserted here, too.

Game: Somewhere far away, you hear a familiar scream.

Rena!

I'm glad I practiced the folds that Rena taught me. I think I could fold something amazing with this paper.

Yes, that is a progress check on origami.

: Of course!

Game: You dash up the staircase towards the spark in the sky.

: What is it...?

Game: Then it dashes past you, down the stairs.

Where is it going?

Game: You follow the cat back down the staircase and into the field, where it continues its trek. It seems oddly determined. Far off in the distance, you can barely make out the sound of someone sobbing.

Rena...?

Game: Suddenly, the cat stops walking, yawns, and curls up in the grass.

: This is no time for a nap, kitty!

Game: As you get closer, you realize that Rena is emerging from the ground beneath the cat.

: Oh Goon-chan, you came back for me! I knew it! I just knew you'd make it somehow. I knew you wouldn't leave me!

: What's going on?

: I-Oh!

Holy crap, look at that!

Game: The cat growls menacingly, and suddenly begins to grow larger.

Game: The demon's mouth opens wide and it lets out an ear-shattering roar.

This can't possibly be good- this is getting really dangerous.

Game: Its putrid breath permeates the room, sickening you to the very pit of your stomach. Thick lines of drool drip from its mouth.

: Goon-chan! Goon-cham, you know what to do!

Game: You reach for another piece of paper and immediately begin folding it. Your fingers seem to be moving on their own.

This is amazing. I never learned this pattern...

: Got him!

: Goon-chan!!

Game: You see Rena throw something towards you. You pick it up and see that it is a small origami sword. You watch apprehensively as the demon swats the cat away, and turns toward you.

This, uh, really need to be seen for itself.

Game: The demon groans and sinks to the ground, and slowly begins to dissipate and fade away.

: Goon-chan... you did it...

: What just happened...?

: That thing... that thing was hurting this world... You destroyed it. You got rid of it for good! That thing which leeches life off of the living... Now the tanuki won't be hurt anymore... now this world can turn back to normal...

Game: The tiger shrinks back down to a cat and leaps up into your arms. Rena takes out a small piece of paper and folds a crane, which begins to grow many times its original size.

: Come... let's go home.

Hell of a day, eh?

Tuesday, December 11

: Where's Rena?

Game: You run outside to see if anything has changed.

: There are people in the streets again...

: Hello, Goon! What are you up to?

: Are you guys okay?

: Yeah...?

: You're not paper!

: Paper? What are you talking about?!

: Nothing... never mind...

: Oh my, are you sure YOU'RE okay, dear?

: Maybe he got that nasty cold Rena got...

: Oh, didn't you hear? She's gotten much better, just overnight!

: Yeah, we're out buying a get-well present for her.

: Heehee, I bet you're also on your way to see her, so we won't hold you up!

Rena...?

: Thank you... everything is okay now...

: What happened...?

: Teehee... A bad spirit who sucks the life out of things... tried to suck the life out of something else in its path of destruction. Who knows what else it could have gotten to, if you weren't able to stop it... But we can't celebrate too much...

: Why not?

Who...?

It's not explicitly stated but you might be able to guess who and what.

: And it's so beautiful out today, thanks to you...

Game: Rena gives you a gentle kiss on the cheek.

: I am glad too...

I guess things are back to Rena-normal...

"This endgame seems odd, I think I'll sit it out" why is this even option? A repeat option. A repeat option while you are building dreamscape origami terrain :psyduck:

I do find it amusing that for a guy stuck in a time loop, he's still confused by the concept of knowing things before they happen.

I'll give Shira Oka this - it's genuinely unique in the life/dating sim genre.

Yeah I'll say. I kinda wish Green Balrog and MiB Terminator people had more foreshadowing but well I can see how those might be hard to tie into the main story.

Man Alice's story was subdued compared to this.

it's a pity the they didn't or couldn't give the game more polish before releasing it, a skip seen text button alone would've bumped it up to a cult gem, because there's a lot of creativity and heart in this game.

Mysticblade

Some of the options are pretty baffling yeah and I can only see them catching out people who don't know you can fail a route mid-ending. Sluggo did come out of nowhere but I got a sword so I'm cool with it. I probably wouldn't be playing Shira Oka if it didn't get as weird as it did. Would've dropped it after like 3 loops.

Well, we're good for anything at this point. Probably. But we still need to choose what to do.

Literature

We can tick Rena off the list now.

Kiku and Yui, eh? Yui is tricky even once you've gotten your stats high enough because she's weird to encounter. Might need to do some save-scumming for her. Kiku is still tough but I think we have the bare minimum for her route if that's what we want to do.

Science

We could do these before and we can do 'em now. Still don't want to do Aya but y'know, gotta do it at some point. Like ripping off a bandage.

Art

This section looks really lonely now. Eventually we're going to hit a point where we can do everything in one run so I guess I'll get rid of them then.

Sport

Kendo is a sport and we killed a demon with a sword. Surely we can be good at sports?

I would say it's all doable right now. We've been hitting like 90+ Sports in most runs anyway since physical stamina is usually burnt on fashion + sports and we haven't bothered with fashion.

Popularity

trashbag-san, i will never forget the good times we had together

Uh... I guess this is as much as a generalist route as ever but we can probably do it now. We're around 5 in all our stats so we're moderately competant now. Naoko's not that hard of a route and she is nice. (I went to double check this, we're at 6 Intelligence, 4 Fitness, 3 Creativity and 3 Charm but we've got 8 XP.)

Same as always but for this, I'll give you guys a week. I have a bit of time off now and I'd like to build up a backlog while I have the time.

Vote here.

Having found a new desire to part with his trash bag, Goon's life begins again.

Also I realised as I posted this that I recorded this but forget to tell people poll's over. I saw Fashion was winning at that time so...

We immediately grab a point of Charm.

And uh, our stats are a bit worse than I remembered...

Quiz happens again, at this point I don't think I can be bothered noting down what choices here lead to what events.

We meet up with Alice and Hiroshi in the student council room. Small problem here, we need to figure out if we're going to be pissing off Hiroshi or not this run. Kiku hates him but Aya likes him...

Oh well. We can put that off a little.

Oh yeah, we got origami as an option after Rena's route.

...Hold up.

quote:

Game: You lie there with your eyes closed for a few more minutes.

It's the second of May again. I don't even need the calender to prove it. I wonder if there's any way out of this endless cycle...

: Is-satsu, ni-satsu, sam-satsu...

*sigh* Here we go again... What did I ever do to deserve this?

: Well, "interesting" is a word you can use to describe Rena, alright.

: She's so happy now, you know. And I am too! So terribly proud. I can't believe you sometimes, Goon, you're amazing.

: Don't flatter me!

: Ah...

: Oh, and I have a special treat for you!

: What is it?

: There's no need to just practice art and music anymore.

: Well, enough of this. It's Golden Week again.

Good to know we can now make paper swords whenever.

We meet with Rena and Naoko too.

It's been ages since we actually used these. Enhanced fashion isn't really that great but I've never used the normal fashion action enough to tell the difference. We got this all the way back in the first loop.

Gonna have to pick whether we're pro or anti-Hiroshi soon.

Swim team is a really strong option and missing out on it in other runs kind of sucks. Getting into the team in first year will let you get a big lead on sports for the rest of the loop.

Another enhanced option that we haven't really used. Dunno if this is ever any good to be honest.

Zombies and mind monsters? Easy. Talking to girls? Hard stuff.

Hi Kasumi.

We took an option that we hadn't chosen before, felt it was worth showing off a little bit of this.

: I always get lost finding this place. I have such a bad memory.

: Sometimes we all forget things... just try not to forget what is important.

: Yes, classroom location are very important.

Yes, I really should record what events I've seen.

After this, it just jumps back to normal. Nothing interesting.

For once, we're not going to get in Hiroshi's way. Satsuko's too, I guess...

: Hiroshi!

: Huh...? Have we met?

: No, you haven't- but I've told her all about you.

This is the only reason I could tell I haven't shown this off yet.

: Oh, really.

: Yes! That's right. I've wanted to meet you ever since Goon told me about you.

: Yeah, she certainly has...

: Well, it is hard to resist the temptation once you hear all about me.

: You said it, wow!

: Satsuko, we probably should be going now...

: Alright, then. I should go. I promised some guys I'd show them some soccer tips, anyway.

: And he does sports, too...

yeah, yeah, bye

One day we'll get to throw Aya under the bus in this marble event.

goon finally forgets hiroshi's tips on talking to girls and can now talk to them normally

After we get our exams back, Satsuko chimes in to say a little something.

: Hey, Satsuko... Haven't seen you at school for a while.

: So, Goon...

Oh.

Oh no.

I thought we still had some time left before this!

: Yes, I do.

: I'm going to keep watch, but I'm going to step it up a bit.

: Or else I'll get sent back?

: Yes. Exactly. I'm still watching, and if you don't do okay, you'll have to start over. I'm upgrading my standards. Now that you know, you have no excuse. So keep up the good work.

I thought this wasn't coming until we finished off another route but ugh...

Previously, we've been expected to get D or higher in all our classes by Satsuko. If we got 8 or more F's, we'd be sent back to the start of the loop.

From now on, it's not 8 F's. It's 8 F's OR D's that will get us sent back. This means we need to avoid D's now since it's a failing grade.

This will happen two more times throughout the game. The second time we see it, anything below a B will be seen as a failing grade. The final time we see it, anything that's not an A or an A+ will be a failing grade. I don't remember how many more loops we have to trigger the next stage of this since I thought this started after finishing 4 routes, not 3. But I'm guessing we'll have at least 2 routes of C min required grades.

This doesn't affect anything other than Satsuko. People won't suddenly think B's are now terrible, we'd get congratulated by our classmates for a B even if Satsuko thinks that's terrible.

Our stats are uh... kind of not good for this. We're going to have to focus a bit more on academics this run than I was hoping for.

you can't swim away from your troubles, Goon

Sunday, July 17

Gotta get out of the house if you want to become friends with anyone.

oh

no, i guess this does work

: Wow, you're looking super... normal. Cool seeing you here!

: Hey, Aya.

: I'm here skipping out on some boring junk my parents want me to do. But I'm running out of ideas of things to do, so we should hang out. I don't wanna go home yet.

: Alright.

We head over to the Electronics store. The book shop would've probably worked if there was a comic section.

: Man, I bet they have anything you could think of...

: Hmm... I wonder what I need... I feel like I've been meaning to come here for a while. Oh, now I remember! I need to get a new mouse.

: What's wrong with the one you have now?

Man, I haven't used a ball mouse for years. It's been laser mice, especially since I found a decent 5 button mouse for $10.

: My little brother probably messed it up when I wasn't around.

: That seems like a good reason. So what type are you looking for?

3rd option is the obvious rich kid option so that's terrible.

: They're excellent. You never have to worry about them breaking like a ball mouse.

: Hmm... sounds like it might be a sound investment.

: It definitely is. Go for it.

: Okay! Let's go find one!

Guess that worked out.

Truck swerves and misses Yui so that's fine. We're definitely not fit enough to push her out of the way but it works out.

bleh

Siding with Aya kind of sucks. I hedge my bets here, picking some neutral options, might not have been the best choice.

Sunday, July 24

I don't really spend much time here.

you know, i'm not sure who I was expecting

: Oh, thank god!

: Hmm?

: I'm so glad you came! Because karaoke is so boring alone. But I had nothing else to do.

Being fashionable is proving harder than expected.

: Anyway, wanna go in with me?

: Yeah, sure.

: Great! Let's go.

Game: Aya flops down on the couch and starts leafing through the songbook.

: Hey Aya, would you like something to drink?

: Sure, get me a papaya bubble tea, will ya?

Do karaoke places do bubble tea? I've never been to one.

: Ah... alright.

Game: You go to the counter to order the drinks, returning with a drink for each of you.

: Thanks, Lorde!

Game: As you are about to groan at her joke, Aya grabs you by the sides and tickles you for a moment.

: Hahaha, oh no you don't! Don't you dare groan at my joke!!

Game: You flail your arms helplessly to fend off her attacks.

: Okay, okay. What will you sing?

: I'll start with an easy one. This one was on the radio a lot last year; you must've heard it before.

: Okay, I'm ready to be impressed.

: Hey, that was pretty good.

: What? Only "pretty good"? Okay, then that must mean you think you can do better. So go ahead and try.

: Uh... okay, here I go.

well, we're a pretty average singer right now

I know Aya likes rock so I just went with that.

Game: You sing a popular rock and roll tune, to an imaginary arena full of adoring fans.

: Well, at least you picked a song that I liked. I'll give you credit for that much.

: ...

Game: The two of you continue taking turns singing more songs. Even though you're not the best singer, Aya seems to be amused by your antics...

: Oh, look at the time! I'll be in trouble if I'm not home soon.

Game: And then she's gone, before you can say anything.

: Oh, and don't worry- I was just kidding about telling everyone at school about your bad singing. You might want to stay and practice a few more songs, though. I'll tell the manager to just add the time to my tab.

Perhaps next time we can run into someone who's not Aya.

No, no, it was less of a fancy thing...

No, no, it was still worse...

There are a lot of games in school settings. And I don't even have a PS4 for Cold Steel 3...

Anyway, we're back here. Last time, I panicked about raised requirements on our exams and now we have to try and figure out something.

It's always good to get in a bit of swimming while we can. It's really good for raw stats so always do some of that when it's open.

Because I have no clue what I'm doing anymore, I hang out with Alice at the beach.

Sunday, August 21

Game: She seems to be thinking rather firmly on something.

: Please do not tell anyone, but Aya's family has no insurance... Her family does not have the money to cover Aya's wisdom tooth extraction right now without the insurance... I offered to help her pay for it, but she would not let me. She said it would be an insult to her family, which is understandable, I suppose. I just feel so bad that I cannot help her.

: Oh my, is that a letter? I love getting letters from my friends overseas.

: Yeah, from my best friend in America! She's so cool, I wish you could meet her.

: Neat! Would your friend by chance be interested in a Japanese pen pal? I would love to write the dear a letter.

: I'm not sure. I'd have to ask.

: Ooh, I'm so happy for you! Your friends back home must really care about you.

: You're lucky, Naoko, to have so many friends in different places.

: Do you really think so? How so?

: Oh, sweetheart, thank you! I didn't think of it like that.

: Well, of course!

I might regret that later but dunking on Aya is always good.

: So... I should write back.

: Yes, as soon as possible to be polite.

: I wouldn't wait at all.

: Tell her about your friends here in Shira Oka.

: Oh, I like that idea a lot!

I'm so glad these XP markers are around to show me when I haven't shown off a scene in full.

...Do I make that comment a lot?

Tuesday, September 27

: ...

: Oh, there's Kasumi. It's freezing today! She should have a heavier coat...

: Hey, Kasumi... is everything okay? You seem a bit off.

Game: For a moment she seems surprised and stops, shivering.

: It's pretty cold out, isn't it?

: Yes, it looks that way.

: You must be really cold wearing just that.

: Thank you, but I'm okay. The weather report was way off today...

I picked option 2. Just didn't feel like typing all that out...

: I guess... but that just means that even nature is unstable...

: Hmm, I wouldn't think of it that way. I would just say that it does whatever it wants.

: Hmm, that's an interesting way of looking at it...

Game: You hand Kasumi your coat.

: Here, take this.

Sunday October 2

We set up a trip to the amusement park today. Not really sure where to go aside from not the park.

Eh. We're seeing her a lot this run.

: Oh, hey, Rena!

: Oh, hi, Goon. I didn't see you there. It's so busy today!

: Yeah, it is.

: You look as simple as a stalk of bamboo today, Goon. Well, at least we can hang out in line together... Come on! We'll all have a fun day.

I think that's an average fashion result...?

: Okay.

Game: There's so many people here! You can really feel the energy around you!

There's an obvious pick for Rena. Haunted House it is.

: Ooh, the haunted house! Scary-fun!

: ...Do you always take notes on that memo pad when you go in there?

: Well sure. You know. So that I know what to do when I meet real ones.

Yeah, they sure can.

: ...

Fade to black here.

: That was cool!

: Yeah, pretty cool. Not anything like the ones I've seen, though.

: I dunno- someone might have a heart attack.

: Hmm, maybe there is such a thing as TOO realistic.

: Yeah. So, what do you want to do next?

: Well... I'm not sure why, but I'm feeling a bit tired already. Maybe I've had enough excitement for today. I better try to get home before I pass out here in the park! Today was fun, though, Goon. I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer.

I recently took a look at vibratingsheep's Tokimeki LP's and one thing that stands out particularly bad in contrast is how these dates are pretty much on par with early Tokimeki. As of Tokimeki 2, they started adding follow up dates where you could go into a 2nd part of the date if they liked you well enough. Can't help but think that would've been good here.

Friday, October 7

: Oh, neat.

: It's my little brother's, I borrowed it.

: Nice. I haven't seen one in a while.

: You've played before, right? Everyone's played before!

: What is it? I've never seen one.

: It's a toy. The string is attached to a little ball and you fling it, and try to get it to land on the spike.

I was about to explain this because I wasn't sure if it had come up but that saves me the thought.

: I've been trying to get real good. I can do a lot of tricks with it now, just like the pro's!

: Glad to see you spend your time wisely.

: Oh shut up! Hey, Alice, do you want to play? I bet I'll win.

: Yeah, you should give it a try, Alice.

: Well, okay.

Game: The two of them play, but Alice loses the game.

: Oh... good game, Aya.

: You both did well.

: YES! YES! YES! All hail Aya, KENDAMA PLAYER OF THE UNIVERSE! Who else wants to play!?

: You're on!

Even if we lose, we probably get points with Aya for free, so...

: Yay, great! Let's play.

Game: You play against Aya, but unfortunately you lose the game.

: HAHAHA I KILLED YOU!!!

: Oh...

: Man, I've never seen anyone lose SO badly!

Not sure what this goes off. Fitness/Sports or past experience.

We grab a point of Creativity with that new XP. We're making good progress on our stats, we're up to a pretty middling Goon now.

We get a Satsuko conversation after that.

: Oh? For what?

: All your stats seem balanced, Goon. I'm glad you understand the importance of being a well-rounded person.

: Thanks.

I just want these points to fight off stat decay. It's a pain shuffling things when you lose stats so quickly from passive loss.

Tuesday, October 18

: ...Hmm...

: Rena. Hey, Rena!

: Huh? What is it?

: What are you doing?

: Oh, teehee, you scared me... There's this new boy in school. I think he's a temporary transfer student...

: No! That's not it! He's sorta... weird.

: Weird, huh? You think he's weird?

: UH-HUH.

: Well, how is he "weird" then?

: Well... he keeps to himself a lot.

: So does Yui...

: Well, Yui is also a bit strange...

: Well, is there any other reason why you think he's... strange?

we're dealing with an anime character here, folks

: ...Hmm. That's a bit unusual.

: Don't you think?

: You sure he doesn't just have colored contacts or something?

: Absolutely! Look at him, he's right over... Oh. He's gone now.

: He probably knew you were talking about him.

: You know what I think, don't you?

: I can never tell what you're thinking, Rena...

Yeah, that'd fit into Shira Oka.

: Huh?

: You know... half demon, half human... he has all the signs!

: He does? Are there other signs?

: Shh, just trust me on this. I told some others but they all think I'm wrong.

: Oh... well, what do you want me to do about it?

: Well... alright.

: What, really?

: Sure. Let's go to the library.

: Not really, but maybe I will after we research.

: Oh, alright. It's good to keep an open mind!

: Yeah. You're right on that.

: Alright, so here's the town records... and here's a bunch of paranormal books.

: Okay.

: Help me look, okay? And tell me if you see anything neat.

Game: The two of you spend a few hours researching the library on the subject. Although you fail to find any proof of demon or hanyou activity reported in the area, you do find some other paranormal reports. Most of them involve ghosts or mysterious disappearances.

...Do other places get hanyou/demon activity?

Not sure what the point of that was but I'll take the XP.

Monday, October 24

: Hear what?

: Yeah, what's up?

: Alice and Hiroshi are going to announce the newest Student Council event today.

: So what? Those things are are always so boring.

: Any idea on what it could be, Naoko?

: Endurance test? Guess that means Kazuki's out!

: Hey!

: I'm sure whatever it is, Hiroshi's going to kick butt!

: Oh, they're announcing it now!

Game: The moment arrives for the student council to announce the new event, but Alice has some trouble getting everybody's attention because the cafeteria is so chatty.

: Attention everybody!

Game: Alice makes a valiant attempt to speak over everyone.

: Excuse me, attention everybody!

Game: They continue their discussions, ignoring her. Her face begins to turn strawberry red as she loses what small bit was left of her patience.

: EXCUSE ME!

Game: The room instantly falls to dead silence.

: Hehehe...

: What the hell are you smirking at?

: Oh, just figured you could use a little help.

: No, I don't need your help.

Game: Chatter in the cafeteria rises again.

: Oh, I think you do. But it's okay; it's not your fault, really. Your voice just isn't loud and commanding enough.

: What?! That's ridiculous! My voice can carry across an entire auditorium!

: Yet this tiny cafeteria seems to be a problem for you...

: Grr, you're such a jerk.

: In that case, let me do this for you. Hey, everybody!

: Heh, they're all yours.

: You're an rear end in a top hat, Hiroshi!

: If you're going to be so mean to me, I might as well make the announcement myself.

: Don't you-

: Hey everyone, I'm here to announce the newest Student Council event!

: Sign up to compete in the eating challenge to end all eating challenges!

: But beware! Each round gets increasingly disgusting!

: Yeah, you may be able to stomach a few banana cream pies, but are you man-

: OR WOMAN-

: -enough to stomach a worm and pudding pie?

: Or a bowl full of brains?

...How did you get the approval to run this? This sounds like a OH&S disaster in the making.

: Ugh, I'm out...

: Why?

: I'm not putting worms in my mouth!

hell yeah, my dude

: What did you say?!

: I'm in!

: What about you , Lorde?

: Nah, I don't think-

BRING IT

: Got it!

: Aya!

: Come on, who else?

: I'm in!

: You?

: Yes, me.

: Psh, good luck.

: What about you, Naoko?

: I hope I do well...

: Heh, five hundred yen says you won't.

: What?

: Five hundred yen says Hiroshi is going to beat all of you into the ground!

: We'll see about that!

: Yeah!

: Yup!

: I don't know, I doubt someone as small as you can eat enough for this competition... better leave it to us guys.

Game: Suzu burps loudly.

: ...

I guess that works.

Next day, the event actually starts for real.

: I hope you're all hungry!

: Heh. Getting nervous, guys?

: Not at all!

: Nope! I'm going to take you down, Hiroshi!

: Heh, we'll see about that.

: Here goes nothing...

: Oh dear, I'm stuffed...

: Aww, nice job, sis.

: Heh, thanks! Good luck guys! Come here and let me tidy you up before the next round, Kazuki.

: How cute.

: Naoko, that's so embarassing!

: Really? I've never felt better!

: FINE. See you at the finish line if you'r that cocky...

: Bring it on!

: Ugh...

: What's the matter Hiroshi? Not feeling too well?

Game: The remaining contestants manage their way through the second round, but many of them are already visibly tired.

: Heh, they're dropping like flies...

: Don't get cocky, Hiroshi.

: You better believe it!

: You look like you're slowing down, Suzu.

: Just trying to conserve a little energy for my victory dance!

: Grr...

Goon is really determined today and I'm not sure why.

: Thank you! Thank you!

: How did you manage to eat that much, Suzu?

yeah, I guess a robot in an eating contest could do pretty well

She still says this even if you haven't done her route. Not that you would be able to confirm that little robot fact if you hadn't done her route.

: I can't believe I lost!

...Wait, wait. Did we beat Hiroshi or not? I know we lost to Suzu, but...

Well, that question's never getting resolved.

On top of the free XP, we also get to start off with the prep work for the 1st culture festival being half done. This is a really nice perk, we get like 2 extra weeks to work on other things now.

That's actually really clever design! Man this game can do it when it tries.

Not much time left before exams and we've got to shore up things. No more D's for Goon.

And yeah, we're probably going Aya route.

Lot of events come up but it's not super relevant to us.

Yui doesn't need much affection with you to get this event. So no chance of flexing into that route just yet.

We're still trying to keep up the fashion. If we can't keep our fashion and our grades up, we can always look at dropping something.

A demerit of balanced stats is that you get stuff like this eating up your days.

Friday, December 9

: I hope so...

: I think I am.

Alice sure seems to have a lot of seemingly unfinished events. I wonder if this is the trigger to get the Literature super training...

I don't know why I agreed to this. It just took up a day. Trying to escape Aya, I suppose?

We get our grades back for our second exam and we're still holding up.

We get the event where we normally get invited to Kiku's birthday party but this time, we've got another option.

: Do you mean Kiku's birthday party?

I've been missing those!

Skipping ahead a bit again...

Ayup, this is our first rejection from the party. I've got no clue why.

: Ooh, burned!

: What was that about?

: Kiku was handing out invitations to her Christmas party. Her parents usually go on trips during this, and she decided that it might be nice to start some kind of party tradition.

Guess we won't be seeing Kasumi there, huh.

Thursday, December 22

: Yeah?

: You failed science, right?

: I did poorly. I didn't fail.

: I'll do better next time.

: You better. Then I can copy your notes, teehee!

Well then. After exams, I scheduled out two days at the amusement park so let's get to those.

Saturday, December 24

That works.

: Yo!

: Hey, Aya.

: Come stand in line with me, Lorde. It's totally jammed today. I was just about to give up on rides altogether until I saw you. At least I can talk to someone now.

We only got a normal fashion comment. Anyway, we take her on a rollercoaster ride.

Now my stomach's turning upside down...

: Uh... me too...

: Hmm? You okay? You're looking a little green there.

: It's nothing.

: Alright...

Game: You and Aya ride the roller coaster.

: It's the greatest!

: You bet! It's my favorite ride here!

: Do you want to ride it again?

: Nah, time for the next ride!

: Okay! So... what do you want to do next?

: Um, actually I'm kind of bored with this place now. I think I might just go home. See you around at school, Lorde, okay?

That worked out pretty well.

Sunday, December 25

: I'm alright with that.

Satsuko hasn't been appearing as much in the main plot but she's always around and she's still pretty helpful even if she refuses to tell us what people think of us more than once a day.

: Yeah, well, you don't get much choice! Teehee. I guess we'll just have to find something to do. I know!

It's been so long since I got this event, I forgot this.

: How will this work?

: Well, I have powers to where I can grab thought waves and feelings from the air. Maybe if I try hard enough, I can see the future. I don't know if I really can, though, heehee.

: Um, alright. I guess we could try.

Game: She closes her eyes and concentrates hard, seeming to try and pull energy from nearby sources. After a long moment, she speaks.

: You need to be strong in body and in mind to help Rena. That's it.

Been there, done that.

Game: She shakes her head, as if trying to knock something off herself.

: Whew! That was tiring. Let's go rent a movie or something, Goon. We still have all night left! Who needs them when you can have lots of fun with good old me. We'll watch movies and draw pictures and gossip and stay up all night long! It'll be great!

We have a Aya route and no Satsuko route. Truly, there is no justice in the world.

Saturday, December 31

We ran into Aya again. Dunno if there's any demerit to taking her to the same place twice so I went to the show instead.

: *singing* I love a parade! I love every beat, the sound is so sweet, la de dee dee da...

: That was a cool parade.

: Yeah, I love all the colorful lights on all of the floats.

: Yeah, it's like being surrounded by a million fireflies.

goon, it's the middle of the day

: Well said.

: Hehe, thanks. So what do you want do next?

After that, we finish up.

Next event we get is the start of semester 3.

Our dream was okay, the main thing to do here is finally agree with Aya.

If you remember this scene, Rena is rightfully warning us about bottomless pits that move. They sure as hell wouldn't be out of place in Shira Oka.

: I have to agree with Aya...

: Oh... you guys shouldn't throw caution to the wind so much!

: Oh! But I wanted you to avoid it! It could tackle you... and then what would you do?

:stonk:

One of these days, I'll pick the dumb option. Although the pressure never really lets off in this game...

I get myself dragged into this event chain for a new violin bridge. There's no reason to do it, I just kind of did it without realising it took up 4 days including a weekend.

We win a ticket to the butterfly event, I'm not sure what happens if you get this while having unlocked meditation.

Monday, January 23

: What?!

Game: Something small and hard flies into the back of your head, knocking you down completely.

: What the?!

Game: You see that it was a small rubber ball.

: What wasn't successful...?

: My brilliant master plan, of course!

: Which is...?

: You know what a subliminal message is, right?

: Uh...

: Do you know what that is?

: hmm, I don't think so... what is it?

: *sigh* It's sneaking an idea into something like a picture that you don't really pick up on, but your brain does. Or something like that... it was a pretty complicated idea...

: Interesting... has your idea worked?

: I see...

: Well, I wish I didn't have to tell you about my plan...

This is how she gives you her number...?

: Well...

: Well what? Why wouldn't you want to call me?

: Well, the numbers are printed backwards, I think...

: ...ARE YOU SERIOUS?!

: Heh don't worry, I'll figure it out.

: Thanks... I'll have to fix that little problem for next time. I don't want that hottie from science class to call the wrong place!

: Heh...

Well, Aya likes us. That's progress, I guess...

Last time, Kazuki tried to hang out with us but today, we're going to hang out with Aya.

We're starting off by getting a call from her.

: You know, it's totally awesome hanging out with you! I used to think that nobody around her liked to have any fun. I mean, everyone's always nagging me about homework and school and blah blah...

: That can be pretty tiresome.

: Yeah, really! Anyway, I'm glad I've found someone that I can really chill with. Let's hang out soon, okay?

And we immediately call her up to chat.

: Oh, hey Goon.

: What are you up to?

: I'm trying to cook something...

Uh-oh...

: I was watching TV and saw this great recipe for a pie. I hope mine turns out alright...

: I guess as long as you put in all the ingredients properly, it won't turn out bad.

goon, that's how you get salmonella

: Hmm... I need a quarter-cup of cream cheese... it doesn't look like we have any...

Guess I spoke too soon...

: Um, maybe sour cream is a better substitute, if you have that.

I don't think that's a great idea but it sounds better than mayo.

: Nope, we don't have that. Looks like mayo will have to do!

Ugh, gross...

: I made another pie, too. It should be done in a few seconds...

: Is it the same type?

eurgh

: Apples and potatoes have the same texture, so it shouldn't be a problem.

If only Naoko knew about this cooking travesty...

: I would, but my mom already made a few pies herself and she'd be mad if there were any more sweets in the house...

: Aww, alright.

: Sorry!

Phew!

: Well, I'm going to go put this other pie in the oven and watch some cartoons.

: Alright, talk to you later!

Come to think of it, it's been a while since I had a potato pie.

Satsuko comes to congratulate us on balanced stats, I've got no clue why since we honestly don't.

Aya does not like us enough to get us chocolates.

Thursday, February 16

Not a new event, Rena's asking us how good we are at science and the conversation went off from there. I'm showing this because we're picking the bully option here.

: You can't fault that logic...

: What?!

: You'd better start closing your window at night, Rena.

: Rena, you're getting pale...

: I'm going to have nightmares for weeks! I should go lie down...

Oh, she's not actually that stupid.

: Thanks for not blowing my joke, Goon!

:sigh:

: That was mean, Aya! You know how easily scared she is...

Gonna have to do more of that.

I'm not sure if she's more of a Science girl or a Sports girl so I spent some time working out normally. Need to do enough to get into swim club next time the applications begin.

I'm spending a lot of time trying to shore up my stats now since the requirements for exams are higher and getting a reset for exams would feel really, really stupid.

Can't dunk on Aya this run but we don't have to be a dick all the time, at least.

We pull through alright on these. I was expecting to fall to a D on Lit but we held up.

I've gotta really take a look at that data I had lying around for these thresholds...

Kiku, of course, focuses on the one subject we just did mediocre in.

Even though we're friends with Aya, Alice still likes us.

We went to the Butterfly exhibitation with Rena to see what would happen but she just mentions meditation and skips off. Not very interesting.

We call up Aya to chat.

: Oh, hey! What's up?

: Taking a break from the mountain of homework I have...

: Heh, I guess I should start that at some point...

: You haven't started yet?!

: You'll be up all night, then!

: You sound like my mom...

: Well, it's true.

: Besides, even if I did start my homework now, I wouldn't be able to concentrate.

: Why?

: Because at 9 I'll find out if Kumiko is going to marry Tenzou on the best soap opera ever!

Great...

: I guess there's always tomorrow, then?

: Yup! Glad to know you see things my way...

: Heh...

: Oh man, gotta go! A great show just started!

: Alright...

Hmm.

Kazuki tries to save us from Aya route but this is the hell I choose of my own will.

Or well, the hell that just sort of worked out that way. Close enough.

I still don't know why this is appearing.

Kazuki now likes us, kind of figured that from the phone number he chucked us.

I wonder if the chances of an event occuring are linked to how much the people in it like you...

We ask Aya out on a date to the beach.

Sunday, April 30

Huh, still have no clue what determines that.

: Yo! What are you doing here? I thought we weren't meeting until an hour from now!

: Haha... looks like we both got here early.

: Wow, you're looking super... normal.

: Yep, it's great weather!

: Hey, guess what? I brought my swimsuit today.

: Oh great, let's go wading!

: Wading? That sounds boring.

: What do you mean?

: Who wants to just stand around in the water?

: Well, it's kind of fun to just let the waves hit you...

: Psh...

" Amd you can also looks for shells and small fish...

This scene coulda used an editing pass. You're usually meant to use capitals after an ellipsis and "looks" is wrong in that context.

: Small fish?

Can Goon be a shonen protagonist?

: I can give it a try.

: Alright! Let's try!

Game: You and Aya go out to the water.

: There's all sorts of little fishies swimming about the water right here.

: Alright, I'm going to try.

: There's one! Catch that!

Game: You thrust your hands into the water after a particularly shiny, larger fish.

: Get it, get it, get it!

: Wow! Oh my god, Goon!

: It's hard to hold on to.

: Hold on a second... I'm going to get my phone!

Game: She grabs up her phone and runs back.

: Good, you didn't drop it.

Game: She quickly snaps a photo.

: You can put it down now.

: Alright, good...

: That was so cool...

hell yeah, we got some respect

Quick fade out and fade in here.

: That was a good day... I can't believe we caught that little fish!

: Heh, that was pretty cool.

: I can't wait to tell Kiku... Anyway, thanks for a great time, Goon!

That went surprisingly well. I chose the beach because "hey, Aya likes swimming, maybe she'll have a good event here" and she did.

There's just a small part of an event with a new option.

: How about we do ikebana instead?

: An ikebana theme?

: I do so like ikebana. So beautiful and delicate... it's like dancing with flowers. With your fingers.

: It's not too bad an idea, but I don't see how we can fit in with Vegas.

: You don't.

: Hmm. Well.

: Face it, if we do this, you don't get your theme.

: Well, you won't get yours either.

: Worth it to see you not get your way!

xp is good stuff

I can never tell what's the right answer here. Never gotten XP from this but I've gotten what seems like a positive response so...

Wednesday, May 17

: It's an amazing day, isn't it? I just can't seem to sit still.

: You are certainly energetic today.

: Well, I'm excited. I think I came up with an invention that'll change communication as we know it!

: Oh really?

: Uh... Isn't that like a telephone?

: It's better!

: Oh...

Oh. Oh, that's depressing.

: I'll call you!

: Haha! Aww, you can't if you don't have my number. Right?

: Well, no. That's why I need you to give it to me.

: Please...?

I couldn't be bothered to count the number of e's and a's.

: If you want it so badly... Then I guess I gotta give it. I would not wanna be a bother!

: Yay!

: But... You better call. If you don't, it'll just be wasting both of our time. And that's just not efficient.

: Uh... okay...

: And we wouldn't want to be inefficient! Right?

: Right.

: Okay then.

It's gonna take us a while before we can actually improve our stats. XP costs feel like they rise a bit too fast for stats.

Anyway, I decided to call up Kazuki and chat.

: Hey, I'm glad you called...

: Oh? What's up?

: Well, um... I was just wondering...

Nice, we don't even have an option to pretend we don't know.

: Make Suzu something interesting in the shop.

: Well, you guys are always together...

: Is it really that obvious that I like her?

: A little, but it's cool.

: Sure, otherwise you would never know if she felt the same way about you.

: Hmm, I just never felt the time was right... Besides, I'd be worried about ruining our friendship if it didn't work out...

: I guess you have to weigh your options.

: Yeah... it's such a hard decision, though...

: Yeah, but I guess it's just one of those things you have to do.

: Alright, just try not to get too obsessed over this.

: Right, I won't. Talk to you later.

: Okay, bye.

I don't think you can ever set up Kazuki and Suzu. Would've been nice if we could've done something like that for anyone.

employee of the year and we didn't even do anything

must be difficult to lift with no fingers

Saturday, May 27

We've done about 4 months this update and doing nothing but stat grinding gets a bit dull. We took a trip to the shopping mall, no one particular in mind.

Oh hey, we haven't really done anything with Naoko.

: That is quite the simple outfit! You're not fancy today but not under dressed, either. Hanging out at the mall?

: Yeah, and you?

: Yes. But I'm glad to have found someone to hang out with. We should go around together. It'll be more fun hanging out as a pair.

: Alright.

Naoko is bad with machines, likes fashion and I'm not sure about the books. Either way, we know our bad option and our good option so let's make good use of today and go to the clothing store.

: Yeah, it's really nice.

: Sometimes it's nice to find these smaller shops rather than go to the big department stores.

This is definitely my approach to eating out. I recently found this place that does really good mapo tofu and Sichuan noodles.

: Yeah...

: Oh! I'm so sorry... we should try and find something else to do. I don't want to make you look at all of this girly stuff...

: Nah, it's fine. Hey, that's a cool broach you're wearing. Did you buy it here?

: Oh, I bought this in South Africa. My family was there for quite a while...

: Really? How cool!

: It's nice to go and see places... but anyway this store sells some pretty cool stuff. Sometimes I trade items with the shop owner.

: Really?

: I have a lot of things from other countries and since this shop is interested in unusual and different things, I make trades with the owner.

: Wow, that's pretty cool.

: Other cultures are fascinating.

: I think so too.

: Why would you trade in the foreign stuff you have?

: I've really managed to collect a ton of stuff from other countries, and I know some of it I won't use... so I figured someone else might be interested in having it.

: Oh, that's very thoughful.

: Mm-hmm!

That went pretty well, certainly beats a wasted day with Satsuko.

4 months in one update is pretty good. If we keep speeding up like this, the index in the OP won't need to be changed again from it's current form.
