all the fans of cap strapped teams with bad contracts are going to be really disappointed when vegas picks a player who is actually decent instead of the lovely guy on a $5 million multiyear contract and on top of that causes the salary cap to stagnate or even drop as hockey related revenue is now split 31 ways instead of 30

Capitals fans are adamant that Vegas is going to select Brooks Orpik instead of like Dmitry Orlov or Marcus Johansson because of leadership and grit. I want to believe.

Vegas is going to have a kickass expansion draft and then trade them all for Martin Erat.

They're probably an upgrade in net on Dallas, too.

HFBoards caps fans are adamant that Orpik will be taken due to his strong leadership, intangibles, and because Vegas is going to need to meet the cap floor.

In reality it is likely to be either Orlov (most likely right now IMO), Schmidt, Beagle, Wilson, or Johansson. The Capitals actually have enough defensive depth that protecting 4 D might make sense for them if Orlov or Schmidt do really well this season, but I bet they will still go with the 7 F + 3 D option.

The least likable expansion team in sports history.

Also Bobby Mac seems to think it's either the Silver Knights or Golden Knights. Both names are dumb.

How many millions of dollars will this cost them if they actually have to change their name? I hope the answer is "many".

I could see NHL working in Portland just because hipsters might latch onto the least popular of the four major sports eagerly.

Don't they already have pretty good support for the Timbers?

Pretty sure the NHL would be too mainstream for Portland hipsters.

Nate Schmidt is almost certainly going to be available and he is a good player. Grubauer has also been good but who knows how good goalies actually end up being after two good years as a backup.

i mean, werent most good goalies in the league either backups or in a timeshare before taking over full time starting duties?

I'm just saying that Grubauer has been an excellent backup but I'm not sure that it necessarily will translate to success as a starter especially since he has fewer than 50 GP under his belt.

Why do people think Theodore is better than Manson? Manson is really good statistically and they should honestly just select him unless they are getting a haul of picks back.

lol if that's true then maybe there is some hope that McPhee will select Orpik.

McPhee seems like a gigantic dumbass based on some of these rumors/leaks but maybe there are a ton of side deals that will make some of these names make more sense.

Thats a really good deal for Vegas

They got a lovely goalie, a salary dump, and a mid-first round draft pick in a weak draft when they could have had a sure thing in either Brock Nelson or Calvin de Haan that you HOPE the first round pick turns into.

Unless McPhee has like 15 first round picks in each of the next two entry drafts the reported names are an absolute disaster and he should be fired on the spot.

Local beat writer confirmed Grubauer will not be selected. Likely Schmidt but who knows it could be Orpik or Beagle because McPhee is a retard.

Sorry Caps fans, apparently McPhee decided to screw his former team.

Word is McPhee wanted Martin Erat for Schmidt.
