Everyone but Vancouver is on the up and up in the Pacific. McDavid will be 20 in 2017-18 so the Oilers should really have their poo poo together by then. Gaudreau and the Flames should at worst be playoff also rans. The Coyotes don't have much high level talent, but are getting a lot better. . San Jose and LA should still have the remnants of their cup run teams to drag them into the playoffs. Vegas would be hard pressed to do anything of note with a team of castoffs and a solitary high draft pick.

It costs next to nothing to register a domain name. I figure some IT department has been tasked with buying up every possibility from a list of a thousand so the team doesn't get scooped when it does settle on one it wants to go with. The last thing they want is to decide on "Desert Knights" but be forced to pay some pasty kid from Wisconsin $50,000 for the URL.

They'll be teamname.nhl.com in the end anyways.

I'm sure Vegas aren't keen* to pay players to sit around doing nothing and not contributing for a year either. I think it's probably fair to give Vegas 1st waiver priority from the start of the off-season up until the first game of the 2017-18 season though.

B) gently caress you forever Benning if you, in fact, do not protect a 23yo 19 goal scorer. You idiot.

Granlund is neither especially young or good. His shooting % was 15.6% this year which is best in the league level quality. Drop that down to a even a very good 12% (nearly a full percentage point higher than his career average coming into this season) and he nets a pedestrian 15 goals or 17 over a full season. Basically, he's been given a top six role because there's no one else to fill it and he's performed around replacement level. Granlund's G/60 this year is currently 8th for all Canucks over the last 4 years sandwiched between Sven Baertschi last year and Bo Horvat in his rookie year.

A team isn't going to score zero goals in a year, someone has to put the puck in the net and this year it's Granlund. In 2013-14 Zack Kassian had 14 goals on a similarly high percentage of shots (15.4%) and was younger than Granlund is now. The following year he was on pace for 20. It's not that Kassian's a good goal scorer, it's just that there was no one else there to do it at the time.

With that said, Sutter is still quite useless and horribly overpaid. No one should be having any restless nights over the possibility of losing one over the other.

Given the value Larsson got and the suggested return for Tanev, I think it's safe to say that the Isles will keep Hamonic simply for his trade value. Right shooting, big minute defensive defencemen are worth their weight in gold. De Haan is probably more effective from a possession perspective, but players like him are ultimately easier to come by.

Plus it's the NHL so it's going to be so shoddily produced you'll wonder why they even bothered. The guy famous for being Sofia Vergara's husband is hosting so presumably will be responsible for butchering a lot of their names. It won't. GMGM is doing exactly what that guy said he would. Deliberately selecting nothing players so as not to upset his rival GMs as he knows full well he has to make a bunch of trades with them over the next few years. He's prioritizing his job over the franchise. Understandable from a personal perspective, but I'm surprised the NHL is okay with this given that they deliberately tried to make it so Vegas could start with an alright roster this time and not flounder around for 3-5 seasons like every other expansion franchise.
