So in the 25 hours of them sitting around together did they bother to come up with any actual legislation that would be palatable to the republicans while still being effective at reducing gun violence?

No because the Democrats had already voted against the bills that were exactly the same as the ones they wanted, except they also had Due Process added in. Its not about stopping ANY violence, its about putting on a show for the dumbasses that vote for and fund them.

Another irony is that AR-15s were originally hunting weapons. There was a whole four year period when Colt sold them to civilians from 1959 before getting the contract for the M16 in 1963. I believe it was 1961 where they even showed up in Army adviser hands in limited numbers without the automatic fire option, because the Army bought them straight off the shelf.

I think a good way to cut down on mass shooting deaths would be to only make fully auto weapons legal... Probably 3/4 of the bullets would end up going into the ceiling.
