I love rock. I love the blues. I like jazz. I even like pre-2001 country. I tolerate rap or urban or whatever. I HATE POP. I'm a lot older than most of you, old enough to have raised two daughters to be honest. I raised them in fact through the heyday of boy-bands and the genesis of "pop" music. Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Blahdy BlahBlah...it's all I heard in my house and car for the better part of 7-8 years. As such, I loathe pop music. My daughter's favorite air-headed singer was Britney Spears and I of course bought them every CD of hers. As my aural torture began, I learned to tone it out (thank you Jim Beam) but after a while, I started hearing this one particular song that really caught my ear coming from my daughter's room. Then one day the girls left Britney's CD in our mini-van (shut up). I heard the song and fell in love with it. I came home and walked into the house singing it, only to be met by my daughters and about 10 of their teen-aged friends. I froze in the doorway as the room fell silent and they all stared at me. Like, you can put on some billboard 100 station and the music will be overproduced and reminiscent of independent stuff that came from years ago but you accept it, because that's what pop is.
