This year it became possible to change your legal gender in Norway by request. No need to provide a reason. Just inform the population register and it`ll get done. I agree with that. It was not decent to demand people get castrated before they could change their legal gender. But now we have to rethink out where and when gender should have legal consequences. In particular this applies to the various types of mild positive discimination to help women get into academia, the military and various male dominated professions. Do we tweak these policies so that you can only benefit from them if you were assigned "female" at birth? Do we require that you have to outwardly appear as a woman for a certain amount of time ( say 5 years for example). Or do we say gently caress it and hope for the best? Remove them completely because gender is a false construct that we are now offically over and done with? I am sure there are other areas where your legal gender matters that will require a rethink now that anyone can have it changed.

So the question has been raised" would you ask a male politician if he felt nervous?". With the implication being that women gets asked this but never men and that this is bad. If there is a double standard here then that is bad. But eh, yeah i would like to know if certain male politicans felt nervous when giving a speech. Women are often held to a stricter more demanding standard which is unfair. The best solution is to also and with equal force apply the same standard to men. In the developed world women are progressing, men are backsliding. This is because we men decided it was ok and cool to a have lazy " aw-shucks i`ll just wing it" attitude to life. Women in general are not socialized to have this lovely attitude, instead they feel like they have to over perform and really do their homework to not get ridiculed. We men could use some of that neurotic paranoia and self-doubt. We ougth be more like Clinton and less like Trump. In short do ask male politicans if they feel nervous and why they wear such ill/well fitting suits. Its good for society.

Are we really having a debate about antifa being a thing in Scandinavia? Well yes. Groups that call themselves antifascist do exist in scandinavia. Whenever there is a big nazi rally planned they tend to turn up and figth them, usually in with massive numerical superiority. If you want to join them you can. They migth even start using more direct and radical forms of force against rigth wing groups/parties if someone joins them and urges them to do so.

To be fair customers sound better then clients. Calling the public customers is a good thing because it encourages civil servants to reflect every day on how their purpose is to do a job for the politically defined " common good" be it taxing corporations, deciding who gets to built what and where or deciding who deserves asylum ( or not) . The customer is always right, but a client is at your mercy. Which do you prefer the state sees you as? Sees vulnerable people as? You can`t really use the word citizen because much of the time that would incorrect and not relevant in determining a persons rights and liabilities when encountering public authority,.

Danskene er inne på noe med obligatorisk barnehage. Men å kun kreve det for etniske minoriterer blir kontraproduktivt, det kommer til å produsere ekstremt mye motvilje og ekstremisme. Ingen liker å bli uthengt. Jeg sier heller obligatorisk offentlig barnehage for alle. Private og ideelle bør legges ned slik at alle barnehager tilbyr den samme indoktrineringen ( utdanningsektorens nest viktigste funksjon). Politiet kommer ikke å henter ungen hvis du nekter men da kan du også glemme alt som heter kontanststøtte eller barnetrygd eller tilsvarende barnesubsidierende ordninger.

Their ownership of the decentralistion issue and their agricultural policy. Political affilations are like clothes we put on or discard depending on the season and the climate. Rigth now SP`s policies on these issues are what`s needed. While SP is not (yet?) a anti-immigration party they are also less enthusiactic about liberalizing the immigration system than the other opposition parties. In the event that the current goverment loses it majority i want SP to be included in the new goverment for this reason. Every party has some major doo doo in their political programs but the doo doo in SP`s program don`t smell so bad to me. Their mink farm policy is morally abhorrent, but since were going to need every job we can keep our hands own as we transition away from oil and gas i am willing to defend it. Beggars can`t be choosers and that is what we will be reduced to in my lifetime. The anti-predator hysteria is bit a lol, but if this what they have to beleive to get votes then so be it. I want to work towards SP including a national gurantee for sufficent housing for adults with severe mental/physical handicaps no matter where they live in their offical program. Rigth now that varies a lot. So you end up with aging parents working themselves to death caring for their adult children. That`s not rigth. A family should`nt have to relocate to get sufficent help. It`s an issue that lends itself naturally to SP`s brand of local populism. Krf are actually very good on this issue, but i loving detest their entire ethos. Never ever would i join them. Under the current leadership they can be relied on to priotize Kulturkampf issues over social spending anyhow. SV is also alrigth on this one issue but there is too much i disagre with to join. I am a soft eurosceptic so i am not in favor of leaving the EEA, but the EEA question is politically dead anyway so that`s irrelevant. I would definetivly quit if SP along with others managed to get a plebiciste on "Noxit" passed. Buts that`s about as likely as child porn being legalized so i am not too worried.

Sounds like an argument for implementing soft price control on food item when/if VAT is reduced. I`m certainly going to pay far more in VAT in the course of my lifetime then i could ever hope to save in Inheritance taxes, even with a 100% tax (and i do expect there will be a non-trivial sum for me to inherit) that`s a win for me. Wealth tax would also have to be pretty steep before that`s a loss for me if VAT is also removed (presuming prices could be controlled). Not that it`s going to happen. VAT gurantees stable year-round funding and is much easier to collect than income taxes on business profits where there is much more room for shady tricks to reduce the tax burden. For the forseeable future it would be quite the gamble to remove it even if the state budget was (on paper) balanced by increasing other taxes.

I work for the goverment and it is a been long day of panicked meetings and confused memos at work today. Still not sure if i am supposed to WFH or not. This could`nt have happened at a worse time for us, WFH will hurt our productivity bad especially sine our IT systems just aren`t built to deal with more then a few employees working from home at any given time. My hope is that all this disruption will derail a stupendously ill conceived strategy the bosses had been planning to implement next week. If we cancel that it should cancel out the hit we will (would?) take from trying to WFH everyone. It really makes me question all the " efficency reforms" we have been going trough lately. So much talk about doing more for less but never about not doing stupid poo poo that fucks with our basic operations just to produce a nice statistic (please ignore the larger picture, look only at my new shiny number).

It`s not just business ghouls that want to things to reopen, people are extremely worried that they migth not have a job to come back to. My sister manages a kindergarden and she`s expressed strong hope for a full reopening soon. Personally it does not matter to me, not directly. But i do worry how we are going to get out of this dark pit we find ourselves in. It is also important to remember that the "lockdown" measures are only effective if people feel like they are neccessary. That`s why we have to start loosening some restrictions after easter or face mass civil disobedience with would really cause the virus to grow rapidly. Allow shops and hairdresses to reopen at least. Outside of oslo perhaps restuarants and pubs could be allowed to reopen albeit with reduced hours? Then wait 14 days and see what happens. The tourist sector is loving dead tough. We will probably have to keep our borders closed until late autumn and i can`t imagine the goverment wants domestic tourists crawling all over the country during the summer, that would certainly undo all of our efforts so far.

Why did Sweden fold in 1905? You could have forced us to give away large areas of economic and strategic importance in exchange for independence. The only concession was that we had to remove some fortifications that no longer needed now that their political purpose had been accomplished. The working class may not have been very eager to figth, but that did`nt stop anyone in continental Europe 9 years later.

Let`s be real tough, compared to anywhere outside of Scandinavia a Danish workplace is nothing extraordinary. But danes do like a to keep a rather rough tone (a sort of playful bullying) which can rub some people the wrong way. I found it very tiring in some of my colleagues from Finnmark. When you have to hear someone talk "straigth from the liver" it every morning it loses much of it`s charm.

You prefer the issue to be passed over? Denmark-Norway had a signicant slave trade. In Trondheim there is a grand old house called "the sugar house" take a guess how that was paid for. It`s frankly excellent that the Danish citizenship programme recognises this. I hope the protests can stay peaceful here. The difference in degree and kind of police violence does not justify the same physical display of rage as it arguably does in the states. The Oslo demonstrators appear to have worked out a reasonable and safe plan for protests together with the police.
