This feels like such a wasted opportunity overall as co-operative stakeholders check out because of a decade's worth of limbo on promised funds for wetland restoration projects.
And as far as reducing emissions go it is arguably one of the quicker fixes for a sizeable reduction. Just the 5% of produktiv skogsmark that are drained peatlands release as much CO2 as our entire traffic sector. Besides the biodiversity aspect and other types of former and present wetlands.

Within a certain category Systemet can be pretty hit or miss. Because of my background im most familiar with portuguese wine, and the reds systemet gets have been good and somewhat varied, lately systemet has picked up some great ones, and because of systemet being such a big single buyer the medium and high-price wines cost roughly the same to buy at systemet as it would have in Portugal. Portugese white wines though? Its nearly all vinho verde, although at least theres a good one among them (Alvarinho).

Thankfully i have a strong preference for reds, a mediocre red wine tastes better to me than the worlds best white wine.

Even my boomer dad has readily embraced it, although dont say much since he is an early adopter of things like this. He also loopholes ICA's checkout system to not pay for grocery bags so thats an advantage i guess.

For real! especially if were talking oldgrowth pine forests. but yeah pines are just gorgeous and grow in really beautiful weird organic shapes in certain environmental conditions. Theyre rugged too, as opposed to their rival the spruces which might as well be named Goldilocks.

And speaking of birds, no scandinavian bird is as gorgeous as the Nötskrika (Eurasian jay).

I don't think that's unique to the Swedish media but yeah there's a lot of coverage of American stuff.

Idk from occassionally reading other european media outside of Scandinavia it does seem like a lot, i dont see the same level of minutiae and special coverage in e.g spanish, portuguese or even german media (although germany is getting there). Its like on the level of a commonwealth country, where even the public broadcaster show live marathons of us elections in the middle of the loving night (who even stays the gently caress up for that??) and US politics get their own weekly podcast/radio shows. at the same time, most swedes would probably struggle to remember the name of any nordic primeministers, or even the heads of their municipal or county councils. Trump got more airtime/word count than Löfven and Ulf Kristersson put together in 2018. News media has no restraint when it comes to US coverage, wish they were this attentive on news from the EU.

For me the more worrying part is seeing how it is really starting to colour peoples understanding of politics and view political concepts in american terms.
and some readily adopted trends in swedish culture. Alot of exotic non-anglo influences, foods etc in Sweden get a foothold because it was made popular in the anglophone world first. So even a lot of non-western influences are filtered by the US or wider anglo-culture rather than us finding it by broadening our reach.

Strejk must be pretty old but in the same vein.. And sometimes we make up our own english words that native english speakers dont use. Like After-work, After-ski, Freestyle and Backslick. Or Pain riche for an older french example.

Theres alot to criticize the jury for, but lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater. That decade with just televotes had alot of bad top 10's. People act like eurovision always was "democratic", when televoting only became a thing from 1998 onwards, it was all jury before then. I could buy the pure democratic argument if it worked closer to a real election, 1 person 1 vote etc. but televoting can be easily couped and manipulated. Not much of an representative democracy when it 1) costs money to vote 2. anyone can vote 20 times.

The 2 most popular songs ended up in the top 2, one of them the jury liked less. hard to be up in arms about this

Going to a southern european (Portuguese in this case) wedding is a bit weird when my first two funerals were Swedish, since the dress is much more informal. Most wear everyday clothes, and basically only the very closest family members (offspring/parents etc) are seen wearing suits most of the time (even then, tie is optional). And then they do the opposite at work, wearing suits for average office jobs.

Poland helped themselves to a piece of Czechoslovakia during the Anschluss. Small piece compared to what the soviets took from them to be sure, which itself was a recent polish conquest from the Polish-Soviet war, although it belonged to "them" at one point before the polish partition.

funnily enough, ive had a shooting a block away from where i live in the same neighborhood, but it wasnt gang-related. just a dispute between two guys who knew each other and one went and knocked on his door and shot him in the gut. luckily survived and was conscious, mobile and in speaking condition when the ambulance came. shooter turned himself in like 2 days later.

Wasnt there to witness it though, i came home like half an hour after it happened and was wondering why there were cops all over the vändplan.

Yes. Which always makes me do a double take whenever I’m in Germany, since “Porr” is the name of a major German construction company and you see their big banners spelling it out on construction sites.

I mean, slave trafficking was one of the biggest moneymakers for the vikings, so slaves were absolutely traded.

Statare was a thing in Sweden long into the 20th century and many of them were de facto serfs, while not chattel slavery we don’t have to look back far for this sort of thing. (Or at all if looking outside of what is legal)

Was a thing that started pretty late to begin with, in the major land consolidations of the 18th and 19th centuries that left alot of peasants landless and were pushed into a rural prekariat of sorts. but yeah it lasted until embarassingly late (until like 1950 i think?). Had a very old uni lecturer who sometimes told anecdotes about his life, once mentioned some interaction he had with local statare, a reminder that it is still in living memory.

Before that (medieval times) you had farmhands employed by nobility and land-owning peasants that were basically considereded "omyndiga", with legal agreements, marriage and so on were decided for them by their employers, like a conservatorship, but with the right to physically discipline them.

Long sentences with alot of commas seems archaic to me, feels like something i read more often in swedish texts from like a century ago. Maybe because of more frequent dependant clauses, if im even remembering this pattern correctly.

Sure is enough to make me jealous looking in from Sweden. Our government wants to send units against the Houthis (but as of know wont without agreement from the opposition and the social democrats are opposed) and joined in on hasty freeze of UNRWA funding. Priceless, after they made statements in an alarmastic tone about the foreign threats to Sweden but then want to join in on the escalation in the Middle East.

Used to live in one of the regions in sweden with the softest water, pretty great. My town even won SM i Kranvatten one year haha (Tap water national championship, yeah that was a thing). Dont quite know how hardness affects taste though, its not something i notice that much, at least not within Sweden going from a region with soft to harder water.. Like the aforemention town, moved to stockholm county with higher hardness, friends miss the water from the old county but kinda tastes the same to me. only time its been noticeble for me was the drinking water in some town in Ireland, or the tap water in countries like Portugal (that tastes more chlorine).

Still baffled by how the doctors at KI were conned by Macchiarini, even as a layman some crucial questions spring up on how the throats are supposed to work, what with a throat needing to be elastic and flexible to move saliva and mucus and move with the muscles. you take a look at that plastic thing and you would think to be more scrutinous of such a procedure.
