RIP Screamy You were too good for this world.
i don't know why they are all labelled under one umbrella, thats like saying chinese, japanese , and koreans are all alike because they're asian, or all south americans are just spanish even though people from chile are different than people from venezuela or brazil

like what does a gay man and a lesbian woman or a transgender queer have in common besides not being heterosexual?

No one is saying they arent different, the idea is that there are shared experiences and goals.

But really, there isn't except in the broadest of strokes. I can't imagine what it's like growing up lesbian or transgendered or bisexual, and those folks don't know what it's like growing up gay.

In fact, I grew up gay in a tiny Bible belt town in the 90's, which is probably a lot different than it is now, or in a big city. Everyone's experiences are quite unique, so lumping them all together seems disingenuous.

Well for example, lots of transgender people live and identify as gay for a while, I think it's obvious that ppl in the lgbt umbrella have plenty of common social needs, or political goals, etc.. I feel like you're just trying to distance yourself from a stigmatized minority group. And why do you keep suggesting that everyone in a group has to be perfectly identical, anyway, no one ever claimed that was the case. There are enough shared interests that it makes sense to politically organize in that way.

I'm surprised that GBS BLM hasn't barged in with a ton of increasingly obstinate demands loosely related to the purpose of the thread thus distracting from what should already be an all inclusive GBS LGBTQQIAABBQ space.

I definitely see your point, I suppose I am just reticent to be lumped into a group that I really don't identify with.

queer can mean a lot of things. try not to worry about it

the expansion of the acronym is just to demonstrate inclusiveness for gender and sexual minorities who face discrimination for gender nonconformity but don't feel they can accurately be described by the more common terms. i know it's very hilarious

Its pronounced key, too. At least in the UK. Unless these are freeman-on-the-land gays who identify as boats for sexy tax reasons, then it makes sense.
