me when The Club do another win

Yes everybody, the Euros are finally loving done and instead of raving about overhyped janette shitheads like Hazard, Lukaku or De Bruyne, we can start raving about our own overhyped shitheads like Praet, Kums and Meunier Izquierdo. Welome to the Belgian First Division A Jupiler Pro League!

There's Eurofoot ahead which is why this thread is open relatively early. But hell, I don't mind :hehe:

(title quote courtesy of Anthony Vanden Borre, who has sadly left us)

The 16 teams who will disappoint us this year

Club Brugge Koninklijke Voetbalvereniging aka blauw-zwart (blue and black) aka Club aka boeren (farmers)
~~ DEFENDING LEAGUE CHAMPION ~~

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Nationwide: Club Brugge have become League champion 14 times, their longest streak being three wins from 75-76 to 77-78. They've won the Belgian Cup 10 times, their longest streak being 2 wins from 1994-95 to 95-96. Club have won the Supercup 14 times, 8 times as league champion and 6 times as cup winner, longest streak being four wins from 2002 to 2005. Club Brugge won the very first Supercup against SK Beveren in 1980. They've won the Bruges Matins 19 times (which isn't really an accomplishment when you're always in the finals since 1991) with a current seven win streak. A comeback against a feisty Wolfsburg kept the streak going. Didn’t organise the Bruges Matins this year because ‘our players would be too tired otherwise’.

International: Club Brugge have had mixed success outside of Belgium.

-Lost the 1976 UEFA Cup final and 1978 European Champion Clubs' Cup final, both against Liverpool.
-Won the 1981 Kirin Cup.

2015-16: After 11 years Club Brugge finally found out the secret formula for winning the Jupiler Pro League, turns out it's being really poo poo at the start and being the least bad at the end that does it. Hopefully noone else will do this this year. The bulk of the year will consist of trying to find a way to make sure Best Trainer in Blegum Michel Preud'homme can leave with prospected successor Philippe Clement taking the reins decently.

Trainer: Michel Preud'homme (BEL)
Main JPL Rivals: AA Gent, Anderlecht, Cercle Brugge
You've probably heard of: Timmy Simons, Tomas Pina Isla
Founded: 1891

Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht aka Sporting aka mauves et blancs/paarswit (purple and white)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Nationwide: This team is basically the juggernaut of Belgian football, they've been League champion for a whopping 33 times. Their longest streak is five wins from 63-64 to 67-68. They haven't been relegated since 1935. They've won the Belgian Cup 9 times, their longest streak being four wins from 71-72 to 75-76. Anderlecht have won the Supercup 11 times, always as League champion.

Anderlecht are one of the three clubs who won the Belgian League Cup. They won the last edition in 2001. They've won two editions of the Bruges Matins, beating Club Brugge twice.

International: Anderlecht are the most successful Belgian team in Europe, winning:

-The European Cup Winners' Cup twice by beating West Ham United in 1976 and Austria Wien in 1978.
-The UEFA Cup by beating Benfica in 1983.
-The UEFA Supercup twice by beating Bayern Munchen in 1976 and Liverpool in 1978.

2015-16: The usual backroom shenanigans we're used to spread from Liège to Brussels last year as there wasn't a single week without some sort of controversy surrounding at least one member of staff or player being mad at everyone else. From the start of the season when Vanden Borre called his teammates fags to the end of the season where chairman Vanden Stock called Besnik Hasi (the manager) incompetent. The reason why Anderlecht still came second was because they had good players (except when they played smaller clubs in which case they were poo poo)

Trainer: René Weiler (SUI)
Main JPL rivals: Club Brugge, Standard Liège
You've probably heard of: Youri Tielemans, Hamdi Harbaoui
Founded: 1908

Koninklijke Atletiek Associatie Gent aka The Buffalos

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Nationwide: AA Gent have been relegated a few times and are a four time Second Division champion, as well as Second Division Final Round Champion in 1989. After 1989, Gent haven't been relegated. Gent have won the Belgian cup three times and won the Supercup as cup winner in 1984. They won their very first championship in 2015!

International: AA Gent's biggest accomplishment in Europe is being a runner-up twice in the Intertoto Cup.

1)2006: Lost from Grasshopper-Club Zurich in the Central-East region
2)2007: Lost from Aalborg BK in the Northern Region

2015-16: Hello I'm Hein Vanhaezebrouck and I doesn't afraid of anyone. Look at how I almost got my team to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Oh no hold on I don't have a big enough squad for three competitions and I've fallen to the Club Brugge disease of bottling it after New Years' nooo my title....

Trainer: Hein Vanhaezebrouck (BEL)
Main JPL rivals: Club Brugge, Lokeren
You've probably heard of: Jérémy Taravel, Jérémy Perbet
Founded: 1900

Koninklijke Racing Club Genk

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They won the Belgian League three times and the Belgian Cup four times. They have won the Supercup once in 2011 as league champion. They've also won the Second Division once, the Final Round twice and haven't been relegated since 1996.

2015-16: Had a good run right until POI when it turned out that the tactics of 'Pass it to Bailey/Hoof it to Karelis' doesn't work against competent defences. Have a new logo that's supposed to look back at the miner origins of the club but it looks really bad, another bad logo for a club with only bad logos.

Trainer: Peter Maes (BEL)
Main JPL rivals: STVV, and not Westerlo like some idiot said last year
You've probably heard of: Thomas Buffel, Leon Bailey
Founded: 1988 (As fusion between THOR Waterschei and KFC Winterslag)

Koninklijke Voetbalclub Oostende aka de Kustboys (the Boys from the Coast)

KV Oostende are the closest team to you if you're from across the pond or across the bigger pond. If you want to look the least plastic this club is for you. They had a real good season in the second division, but are best known in this thread for being bought by The Most Obnoxious Man In Football Marc Coucke

2015-16: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJnOow4BSNg

Trainer: Yves Vanderhaeghe (BEL)
Main JPL rivals: Omega Pharma speculation
You've probably heard of: Silvio Proto, Yassine El Ghanassy
Founded: 1981 (fusion of VG and AS Oostende)

Sportvereniging Zulte Waregem aka Essevee

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Nationwide: They were Second Division champion in 2005, haven't left the Pro League since and won the Belgian Cup in 2006.

International: Waregem's biggest accomplishment in Europe was losing to Newcastle in the 3rd round of the UEFA cup.

2015-16: Did their usual thing in the league until they got into POI and lost everything except the Anderlecht game, hey remember when these guys almost became champions hahaha

Trainer: Francky Dury (BEL)
Main JPL rivals: Kortrijk
You've probably heard of: Mbaye Leye, Timothy Derijck
Founded: 2001 (Fusion of KSV Waregem and Zultse VV)

Royal Standard Club de Liège aka Les Rouches (The Reds)

~~ DEFENDING CUP WINNERS ~~

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Nationwide: They've been Belgian League champion ten times now, their longest winning streak is three wins, from 68-69 to 70-71. Their last win was the 2008-2009 season. Standard has won the Supercup four times, once as cup winner and three times as league champion. Standard has won the Belgian Cup 7 times, the last time in 2016. They haven't been relegated since 1921.

International: Liège's biggest accomplishment in Europe was losing 2-1 to Barcelona in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup finals in 1982.

2015-16: Alright we got Daniel Van Buyten backing our boardroom to bring in those sweet sweet football teachings and oh god why are we last after 10 games? Won almost every game after that, nearly missing POI and winning the Cup

Trainer: Yannick Ferrera (BEL) Aleksandar Jankovic (SRB)
Main JPL rivals: Anderlecht, Charleroi
You've probably heard of: Jonathan Legear, Dino Arslanagic
Founded: 1898

Royale Sporting du Pays de Charleroi aka the Zebras

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They've been second division champions twice, the last time was in 2012

2015-16: Played the best football on Belgian pitches and nearly missed POI, nearly missed Eurofoot after they got wrecked by Racing Genk in the very last match of the season. I hope they get in POI this year they're well swell

Trainer: Felice Mazzu (BEL)
Main JPL rivals: Standard Liège
You've probably heard of: David Pollet, Nicolas Penneteau
Founded: 1904

Koninklijke Voetbalclub Kortrijk aka De Kerels (The Dudes)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Won the Final Round three times and the Second Division twice, haven't been relegated since 2007.

2015-16: Usual Kortrijk midtable season, only shaken up by Johan Walem all of a sudden seeing a Northern Conspiracy from within the club and leaving it to a manager who is ten times better than him without a managers' degree. Make of that what you want.

Trainer: Karim Belhocine (FRA)
Main JPL rivals: Zulte Waregem
You've probably heard of: Thomas Kaminski, Gert-Jan De Mets
Founded: 1901

Yellow Red Koninklijke Voetbalclub Mechelen aka The Yellow Reds aka Malinois aka Malinwa aka De Kakkers (The Shitters)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Nationwide: Four time First Division winner, five time Second Division winner, two time Final Round winner, one time Third Division winner (after bankruptcy), one time Belgian Cup winner. They haven't been relegated since 2007.

International:
1988 European Cup Winners' Cup winner, beating Ajax with 1-0.
1988 European Supercup winner, beating PSV Eindhoven
1989 Joan Gamper Trophy winner, beating Sochaux

2015-16: Another underwhelming season for The Sixth Biggest Team in Belgium. They should really do better though

Trainer: Aleksandar Jankovic (SRB) Yannick Ferrera (BEL)
Main JPL rivals: Lierse
You've probably heard of: Mats Rits, Dalibor Veselinovic
Founded: 1904

Koninklijke Sporting Club Lokeren Oost-Vlaanderen aka Tricolores aka Lokerse boeren (farmers of Lokeren)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They won the Belgian Cup, their very first trophy, in 2011 and repeated this feat in 2014. They were also the Second Division champion in 1996 and haven't been relegated since.

2015-16: Belgian media believed that Georges Leekens tried to console Bob Peeters via text message after he stole his job for two weeks before it turned out it was a really weird prank because noone knows how to doublecheck sources anymore and another thing

Trainer: Georges Leekens (BELlend)
Main JPL rivals: AA Gent, Waasland-Beveren
You've probably heard of: Barry Boubacar Copa, Tom De Sutter
Founded: 1923

Koninklijke Voetbalclub Red Star Waasland-Sportkring Beveren aka de Wase Wolven (the Wolves of the Waasland)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

SK Beveren had a few titles and a supercup or two I'm pretty sure. Sadly this club has Waasland's honours and not Beveren's so apart from winning the Second Division final round in 2013 they've done gently caress all!!

2015-16: Are actually better than last seasons because they have a manager who actually gives a gently caress, sadly they don't have players who are good so well, here we are.

Trainer: Stijn Vreven (BEL)
Main JPL rivals: Lokeren
You've probably heard of: Siebe Schrijvers, Milos Maric
Founded: 2010 (Fusion of Red Star Waasland and SK Beveren)

Koninklijke Sint-Truidense Voetbalvereniging aka STVV

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They won a trophy that doesn't exist anymore in 1999. Best known for being the only club in Belgium with astroturf.

2015-16: What what do you mean you think we're controlled by Roland Duchatelet, just because his wife owns the club??? Please

Trainer: Ivan Leko (CRO)
Main JPL rivals: Genk
You've probably heard of: Nick Proschwitz, Yuji Ono
Founded: 1924

Royal Excel Mouscron aka whatever

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Not much! At one point during the 90s, they found themselves in the fourth provincial division. However, in the last few seasons Mouscron has shot up the ranks, going from fourth to third division in 2011, from third to second in 2012 and now finally to first division in 2014 after winning the second division final round.

2015-16: The weird financial shadiness still hasn't left, as Mouscron almost got juridically relegated AGAIN, this time because a shady agent was apparently member of the board of directors. Will sooner be bankrupt again than relegated

Trainer: Glen De Boeck (BEL)
Main JPL rivals: The Belgian Sport Tribunal
You've probably heard of: David Hubert, Shane O'Neill
Founded: 1921 as Racing Club Péruwelz, fusion with Mouscron in 2010

KVC Westerlo aka Westel

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Played in the Pro League between 1997 and 2012, after which they spent two years in the second division. Never really achieved anything, aside from getting kicked out of Europe early twice, and will hopefully continue to do so.

2015-16: Had The Greatest Escape by clinching the last spot in the Pro League by beating Oud-Heverlee Leuven in the last match of the season. Shame they're still a bit poo poo and won't be able to buy their way out like the other bit poo poo teams.

Trainer: Bob Peeters (BEL) Jacky Mathijssen (BEL)
Main JPL rivals: Lierse
You've probably heard of: Kristof Van Hout, Benjamin De Ceulaer
Founded: 1933

THE FRESH BLOOD:

Königliche Allgemeine Sportvereinigung Eupen aka De Panda's
~~ FIRST DIVISION B CHAMPION ~~

What did these scrubs accomplish

What was five years ago a quaint club with a weird moon language became a feeder club for a Qatari scam enhancement academy for promising footballers. All of the staff are also Spanish now.

Trainer: Jordi Condom (don't laugh) (ESP)
Main JPL rivals: domestic youth academies
You've probably heard of: Siebe Blondelle, Jeffren
Founded: 1945

loving playoffs, how do they work?

They don't, but here it is:
- 1 to 6 play against each other in one group with their points halved, top spot becomes champion, fourth (or fifth) spot plays against the winner of:

- 7 to 15 of the First Division A and 2 to 4 from First Division B play against each other in two groups starting from zero, top spots play against each other, winner goes against aforementioned fourth (or fifth)

I hear you ask, why get teams in from the second division? Why not the champions? Huh??? I answer to you that we don't loving know either

Most of them are, but it's not difficult to be able to use royal in the title. Every organisation that is at least 50 years old and can prove they're functioning can become royal.

We take token titles very seriously here.

Tomorrow's the first official game of a Belgian team this season, with Genk taking on a team from Serbia and Montenegro!

Fudbalski Klub Budućnost Podgorica aka Plavo-bijeli (The Blue-Whites)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Buducnost are the best team in Montenegro since the independence from Serbia in 2006. They've won the Montenegrin First League twice and were runner-up in all but two other years, which makes them extreme bottlers. They've also won the Montenegro Cup once.

To get to this second qualifier, they beat the Macedonian team of Rabotnicki

Trainer: Miodrag Vukotic (MNE)
Main league rivals: idk, all the other teams I guess???
You've maybe heard of: no one, unless you follow the Montenegrin First League with a burning passion

Well after a match no one was interested enough in to actually watch, Genk is bringing the most dangerous scoreline to Podgorica, capital of Montenegro. All I can say is, I wish the actual season would start already

The supercup starts in about 40 minutes. Your starting XIs:

Club

Standard

Where to watch it:

This game is the first of the season to be televised.

For Dutch-speaking fans it's commercial network 2BE who will broadcast the Supercup starting at 19:35, there's no online livestream that I've found for that
Francophone fans can watch through the RTBF, who start their broadcast at 19:45 and their livestream 10 mins after on http://www.rtbf.be/auvio/direct_supercoupe-de-belgique?lid=66484

If you're foreign, this site usually has all the Belge matches http://sports-livezz.com/

Eurofoot opponent roundup

Tomorrow: Anderlecht takes on the following club

Футбольный клуб Ростов aka Selmashi

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Hyped as 'Russia's Leicester' because they are a small city team that ended up really high on the table in the local championship, it was less exciting than Leicester though because they didn't win and also their finances are just poo poo instead of good but tiny. Won one Russian Cup in 2014 and that's it.

Trainer: Kurban Berdyev (TKM)
Main league rivals: Financial Fair Play
You've maybe heard of: Cesar Navas, Christian Noboa
Founded: 1930

This is Rostov's first match in the Champions League this season!

Thursday: Genk try to do better than barely beating Montenegrins going up against:

Cumann Peile Chathair Chorcaí aka City, Rebel Army, The Leesiders

What did these scrubs accomplish?
Cork City were in 1984 one of the very first Irish teams to play with professional footballers. It is owned through the Friends of the Rebel Army Society supporters' cooperative. They have two League of Ireland titles, one FAI Cup win, 3 LoI Cup wins, 1 President's Cup win (Irish Supercup), 16 Munster Senior Cup wins (whatever that means) and 1 Setanta Cup win (which is a League cup across the whole of Ireland?)

Trainer: John Caulfield (IRE)
Main league rivals: The clubs from that Dublin
You've maybe heard of: Colin Healy, Alan Bennett
Founded: 1984

This is Cork's 3rd EL matchup, after beating the Northern Irish Linfield and the Swedish Häcken

Also Thursday: Gent want to wreck the poo poo out of Europe once more starting with:

Fotbal Club Viitorul Constanța aka Puștii lui Hagi (Hagi's kids)

What did these scrubs accomplish?
They were founded in 2009 and have not really done anything of note so far. Gheorghe Hagi, who is known as the best Romanian football of all time, owns and manages the club

Trainer: Gheorghe Hagi (ROM)
Main league rivals: Clubs with history
You've maybe heard of: Alex Nimely, Kévin Boli
Founded: 2009

This is Viitorul's first Eurofoot match ever!!

Grimey Drawer
Good result for Rostov, better than everyone anticipated, what with them losing some key players, having no money, and their manager (who is the sole reason they finished second last year) still being undecided whether he wants to keep managing this clusterfuck of a club.
Also, this was the first competitive game of the season for Rostov.

The prognoses here vary from "Anderlecht will kick their asses like it's nothing" to "Rostov will kick their asses like it's nothing", which should give you an idea that no one has any idea what is going to happen in a week with this, er, "club".

Note that I have not seen the game, but I do intend to see the one next week.

This is such a weird transfer, Standard don't need Raman and it's not like Raman is going to get starting XI spots in Liège. Standard just threw money at Gent

Mark it zero!
It's a stupid transfer for Standard because they need more discipline in the dressing room and Raman is obviously an idiot. Good riddance for Gent.

In other news, noted former overhyped shithead Thomas Meunier just scored twice against Real Madrid. It's a really weird feeling, seeing someone you've seen playing for so many years, after coming straight from the 3rd division, scoring 2 goals in more or less his first game for PSG against Real loving Madrid.

What makes it utterly bizarre is that both goals were with his left foot instead of outside right.

Tbf he's always been good going forward, and La Liga defending is going to be even worse in preseason. I'm just mad we sold him for €7m. At least now we have the balls to tell clubs to gently caress off for only giving 12m for good lads like Izquierdo

Fans of Belge foot, there are two(!) matches on today in Eurofoot

In 15 minutes, Genk - Cork kicks off, half an hour later so will Gent - Viitorul

No one is televising it though, so here's some streams

http://ifirstrow.eu/watch/452209/1/watch-krc-genk-vs-cork-city.html
http://ifirstrow.eu/watch/452227/1/watch-kaa-gent-vs-viitorul-constanta.html

I hope they work but it'll depend on the Irish and Romanian broadcasters. Don't think any broadcaster in Belgium actually cares
