Movie Mindset is cool because they talk about a lot of movies I've never seen. Did you know some movies aren't a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Blew my dang mind.

I still like the show and will keep drinking that garbage but I think it's pretty undeniable that CTH became popular because they hit on a good dynamic and not because, or not just because, they were one of the first. The show absolutely does suffer for want of the passionate Marxist analysis/yelling Christman brought to the table, and I hope his recovery is speedy and complete and he's back on soon. That said I love the movie mindsets. I am a movie mindset sicko. 10000 movie mindset episodes. gently caress the haters. they can never achieve movie mindset.

I'm coming around to one of Matt's theories that the US is in a kind of end of history spin since 2008, just not how Fukuyama imagined it. This year feels so similar to 2016 when Chapo came to prominence. An increasingly deranged media and political elite that doesn't acknowledge that the democratic party's candidate is widely disliked. An economy that is in the shitter despite economists pointing to charts showing lines going up. But somehow everything feels even stupider.

Chapo is still great and entertaining but when they came out it was a massive breath of fresh air, a circuit breaker for all the bullshit that was flowing out of every mainstream and even most alternative news sources. I just hope that some zoomer kids connect over tiktok and make something similar for the current generation.

I agree and I think the weird state we're in is very deeply understanding our material problems but not having a real class movement nor having the institutions to build one. I think Chapo came up in the post-Occupy quasi-movement of DSA-adjacent left-lib-anarcho-dem-socialists that ended up finding its death in Bernie's failure, and now we're at sea. Maybe it was fully a mirage and we're in a worse state than we realize, but I think/hope that it helped carry the torch forward a little, even if only in death, and at least helped teach some of us how to recognize the thing we're looking for: a working class movement centered around a fully-formed understanding of class conflict. Maybe that's what comes next, or maybe that's still way out there. I think when it does arise, though, is going to have a voice closer to the cushblogs than CTH, though it'll probably (similarly) come in a form that none of us expect.

I'd just play the most recent on PC and see if you vibe, then take the time to emulate or find for console the older ones if you dig it. The story is more or less independent per game and things repeat.

I haven't been listening much lately due to the combination of no Matt and also things are generally so bad in the world that hearing them discussed, even in the usual Chapo manner seriously bums me out. I like the movie episodes when they're talking about trash like 57 Seconds. If/when Matt comes back I'll probably start listening regularly again.
