lmao that jared leto interview bit in audio is almost as cringeworthy as Raw Boss Ross friendzone adventures
the PUA dad reading of Joker is heavily supported by the fact that Jared Leto is goddamn 44 years old

I think they do best on movie stuff when they go out there to determine incel/volcel status of characters or make up insane analogies, instead of boilerplate "boy they really edited a lot of that movie" or "zack snyder doesn't like superman" stuff you can find on every piece of poo poo movie reddit/podcast/geekcumscoops.com. I'll never forget the day I tested the WoW connection. It was quite late at night (probably 2 or 3 a.m. Iraq time). I had finished instant messaging my wife, and I clicked on the WoW icon on my desktop. I logged on, watched it go through the authentication process and ... there was my priest, Rickybobby, still there, about three months after I'd last logged on. I clicked "Enter World" and found myself standing on the AH bridge in Ironforge. My near-delirious joy was tempered by the fact that my latency was between 1700 (at best) and 14000 (at worst), but a starving man will eat scraps from a dumpster, so this was much better than nothing.

David French posted:

I am an old-time Warcrafter, spending hour after frustrating, mediocre hour on battle.net during the old "Reign of Chaos" and "Frozen Throne" RTS days. When WoW came out, I was appalled that Blizzard would ruin the franchise with something like an MMO (I barely knew what that was). I tried it about a month after release, and the first night I couldn't figure out how to change the camera angle, so I ran around the Night Elf starter zone yelling at the screen because I just had a top-down view. I was such a noob that it took me to level 40 to realize that I could get rid of the starter gear, and I wondered why everyone LOLed at my toon. Heck, I didn't even know about talent points until level 30.

But now? I'm what you'd call an "intense casual raider." I read everything I can on EJ and WoW.com, I try to min-max and run end game content every week. I'm the priest officer in our guild (and a secondary rogue officer), and our guild is one of the better casual raiding guilds on our server. I'm no pro, but I've come a long way from the days of not even realizing there was an Auction House, almost dying on every single pull, and not knowing what anyone meant when they said, "Noob, I can't believe you equip gray items."

As someone who followed Klein during that particular ordeal , she wasn't cheering said bombings on as much as she was angry that other similar bombing campaigns from US allies were being given the kid's gloves in terms of treatment from the media + frustrated on said media attempting to frame the starvation campaigns as purely Assad's fault while she worked with refugees, with Syrian "rebels" also doing their own starvation campaigns. I'm aware of this since there was indeed some conflict with folk who were both pals with the "tankies" and the folk who would end up becoming the Chapo Boys over this.

she literally screamed about zionists while praising hezbollah

Kunster posted:

Heck, the mere idea that the Libya and Syria interventions aided the rise of Daesh or cheering the YPG on the war for a while would have branded you as a "tankie" until folk like Felix and Matt would outright state it on their podcast.

This is far from an extreme left-wing/"anti-imperialist" position, what are you talking about? Even most milquetoast liberals (eg not "realpolitik"-oriented centrist pundits and their following) would agree with that.

quote:

Heck, you can see this with the Chapo folk being able to point on just how hosed up the Gawker dismantlement was and what it meant to the freedom of the press without having to their soundcloud annotations a fractal of "WOW SHUT UP YOU WHINY PUSSIES THAT WAS JUST AN OVERRATED FEMIWHINY poo poo CLICKBAIT MUCKRAG YOU CUUUUUUUUCKS" while Dan O' Sullivan can't do the same without that happening on twitter, despite him probably one of the most famous and notable guests on their show that wasn't Matt Taibbi.

What you are describing is the inherent shittiness of twitter as a discussion platform. A short tweet from Dan would gain hundreds of RTs from his likeminded followers, then the vultures with anime avatars take notion and share their opinions about the state of modern journalism and interracial pornography. An 1hr+ podcast just does not attract drive-by shitposters and the DISCOURSE that easily, it is not a side effect of chapos being leftist darlings.

Every website that writes articles that can be categorized as "thinkpieces" will not publish what she wrote, and at this point in time, that's a lot of websites. They have the exact same worldview (neoliberalism wrapped in the rhetoric of left-wing identity politics-related social justice), are staffed by the exact same people (as in, perfect targets for the gang to make fun of), and write about the same five topics over and over again worded differently and related to a different event of the moment (or Game of Thrones, which will seemingly never go out of style). As we saw in one of the recently posted Podesta emails, the DNC relies on hacks like Amanda Marcotte and Sady Doyle to propagate their bad ideas. And Matt Breunig can serve as a lesson of what can happen if someone steps out of the party line.

The only place I can think of that would touch an article about Chapo Trap House is Vice.

Intentionally Awkward Title: "Chapo" refers to notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, and "trap house" is hip-hop slang for a crack house.

Kill the Poor: Episode 2 is dedicated to an article by conservative columnist Kevin D. Williamson essentially arguing that poor people themselves are responsible for their lot in life and that those living in poor rural towns should be forcibly relocated to cities to find work.

Larynx Dissonance: In episode 42, the hosts are amazed at Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes’ unusually deep voice, which seems to be a deliberate affectation; they compare it to a child pretending to be their father on the telephone and Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.

Logical Fallacies: A concept constantly mocked by the hosts (and referenced in Felix’s Twitter handle @ByYourLogic); they tend to think that pointing out fallacies in people’s reasoning when arguing with them is a mostly pointless tactic and displays a lack of understanding of human emotion and psychology.

My Country Tis of Thee That I Sting: A concept central to the show; the hosts tend to think that America is a racist, imperialist, warmongering nation that probably isn’t worth saving.

That Steve de Beste segment on the latest episode is a great illustration of the sheer stupidity in early blogging era. If you knew how to put words in coherent sentences and liked to delve into controversial topics, you could get respect from people who should've known better - writers with actual reputation and paying gigs. And then:

quote:

With a heavy heart I am here to report that the word has come in, by way of Steven’s brother and Brickmuppet. The final update to Chizumatic was on October 14.

Named after a character in Mahoromatic, Chizumatic was one of the oldest anime blogs. Its domain predated Ani-nouto by a few months in 2006, but the blog itself started at denbeste.nu with a review of Lain in October 2004. Back then, Author was still gestating in the depths of LiveJournal, Omo’s domain was “serenana.info”, Jeff Lawson still had years to go.

From the beginning, Chizumatic offered a strong editorial voice for the most competent direction and the cutest girls, as well as an excellent understanding of the classical blogging, which Steven brought with him from the political arena. Explanations and WMG/TMW were another hallmark. Did you think too that the crow in Haibane Renmei represented Rakka’s dog? We aren’t getting such insights anymore and the animeblogging has become poorer for that.

Though it would've been great if all the DARK ENLIGHTMENT and libertarian dorks just switched to full-time anime reviews instead of doing their vulture poo poo and contributing to human misery.
