At first I thought they were doing a schtick trying to make it as horrible as possible, and it was kind of funny, but then I had the slow dawning realization that they weren't being ironic, and really are that loving stupid and unfunny.

Nixonland was also really good at portraying Nixon as a pathetically insecure, sad little man, desperate for respect and power. He was almost kind of pitiful, if it weren't for the overwhelming evil and whatnot.

Now I'm torn, I like the history stories the Dollop tells, but good god their improv is bad, it's the same loving joke characters over and over and over and over again. At least they're usually better with guests, any show they've done with Wil Anderson is gold.

I like Lovett well enough, but find the rest of the PSA guys pretty grating. Also, if I hear Favreau refer to their podcast as "the pod" one more time I'm gonna jab a pencil through my eye.

Amber was goddamn amazing in the Harvard show, she'd be quiet for like 20 minutes, and then chime in with a quick one liner that'd absolutely kill me. And I think Will and Felix definitely handled the Dollop appearance better, but it might have been their personalities fitting better with the hosts, or it's just their personalities in general. Some people work better with a specific group, and Matt and Virgil might just mesh better with the Chapo crew, both in style and rapport.

I think it's cool that one of the co-hosts of FIve Thirty Eight listens, and it'd be even cooler if a bunch of international relations professors did as well. I had to stop listening to PSA, as much as I enjoy Lovett's schtick, Favreau and Vietor made me goddamn scream at my speakers, every single episode they'd come so drat close to a real breakthrough and seeing where things have gone wrong, only to fall back on "oh well, I guess we've got to really find some way to reach across the aisle and work with friendly republicans" and I felt like I was going to have a stroke.

It's called Whale Vomit but the feed shows up as The Baffler in the app I use and there might be some other content mixed in there. It's pretty much what you'd expect from an Amber/Sam podcast, very good but like 20% academic or artistic digressions that go over my head cause they are extremely smart and I am very dumb. Yeah, much of their digression into deconstructing French animated cinema was a bit over my head, but it made for some really interesting discussion around metaphor versus allegory as seen in Maus and 1984, so it wound up being a pretty cool show.

The hosts definitely identify as leftist, and while I don't always agree on their takes (they think Hillary would have moved left as a President, which to put it mildly is generous as gently caress), they approach it from a super logical/debate nerd/stats heavy perspective. Definitely not irony bro, and very very different than Chapo, but might still scratch that podcast itch for you. They also spent a brief portion of last week's show on Bernie's struggles to convey his message beyond purely economic matters, so it seems up your alley.

I've interacted* with moose on like a dozen occasions, and they tend to just ignore you because you're not an immediate threat. Moose on the road are bad though. I've had them wander through camp, we just kind of froze and it kept going, no big deal. On the other hand one charged at my jeep as we were driving an old forest service track, it backed off after getting within a few feet, but speaks to their temperament, and it was big enough that if I was on foot it would have hosed me up super bad.
