There's a lot of good country music still, it just never gets radio airtime. There's also a ton of good country that's been fusing with other music scenes for the last twenty years, like in Denver.

When did country artists decide that bragging about how soft they are and sucking up to women was the way to go? The songs always come off like a corporation used focus groups to manufacture a "touching" moment, but they overdid it with the whining and self pity. In about 50 years we went from "I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die" to "When tough little boys grow up to be dads, they turn into big babies again" because they see their little girl fall while she was learning to walk. I just listened and though "I don't remember Garth Brooks having that thick of an accent." But the backing track sounds exactly the same. Maybe he just replaced the vocal? That was the first complete song I learned for the guitar.
