Blood Waters of Dr. Z has that "italian movie pretending to be an American movie" vibe, but it's a 100% genuine American turd instead. It really is remarkable.

I guess it's because it's Floridian as hell?

Pearl is great in that episode. These days it's not news that Mary Jo Pehl is funny as hell and a great riffer, but before Rifftrax this was such a revelation.

I also love her interactions with Crow and Servo in the theater, who are so easily and completely won over by her giving them each half a mint.

I happened to pop over to the Shorts-a-thon, and they had a short from season 13 just ending. In the end credits: 16 writers listed as "contributing riffers", so it might not even be the full crew.

We've talked before about how the team for the new seasons feels a bit bloated and if 16 god drat writers isn't a sign of that, I don't know what is. And no wonder a lot of the riffs feel so generic.

Santa Claus vs. the Martians has 14 credited writers:

Mike Nelson
Trace Beaulieu
Frank Conniff
Joel Hodgson
Kevin Murphy
Paul Chaplin
Bridget Jones
Jim Mallon
Colleen Henjum
Lynn-Anne Freise
Tom Wedor
Craig Tollifson
Rob Schrad
Cristopher Whiting

(I actually just wanted to highlight this one in particular because Rob Schrad is the creator of Scud: The Disposable Assassin and he's written about how he was a guest writer on MST3K.)

Yep. By comparison, it's definitely a strength of Rifftrax that they're telling mostly their own jokes, you can really see the personalities at play.

Abraxas is actually a knock off New Gods movie. There's fake Mother Boxes and the thing they're looking for is the Anti-Life Equation.

I checked the Rifftrax IMDB for Dune 2021 and they list 5 writers. one is Mike and none are Kevin or Bill.

I know they've got more than those other four, but it's fewer per episode than current or former MST for sure

Old MST wasn't a union show, right? If he was already a WGA member at the time he might have gone with a one-letter-off credit to avoid breaking union rules.
