Did any of you ever play 'The Hidden'? One of the best hl2 mods ever, one of the most fun online fps games I ever played. One team was a group of navy seals types armed with machine guns and shot guns, the other team was one naked man with a knife. Who was ALMOST invisible. What made it so great was that you could just about see the shimmer, but there were things like steam vents and windows that made you think you'd seen him, lots of friendly fire deaths. The Hidden could actually jump really high, climb on walls and see through walls too, he was kind of a killing machine, which made it absolutely terrifying. Seriously, if it's not still available would strongly recommend watching a YouTube vid or something, Gabe was great

Counter-Strike: Source is dead for mostly anything other than 24/7 office/dust2 and surf. There are only a few good rotation servers left and they're all usually only active in the afternoons, when they fill up and result in waiting for an open slot.

Jedi Knight Jedi Academy is not dead at all. Just bought a copy at a thrift shop forf $2 and the first server I joined was filled with people. At first I thought they were bots but then two of them helped me learn the mechanics and dueled me a couple times so I could get the hang of it. Really awesome community, those that are left. Eager to teach newbies so that there are more people left to play JKJA

The best part was that you could play the Hidden like a literal slasher villain, killing and hanging people's bleeding corpses from the rafters. :unsmigghh:

I might be wrong, but there also weren't any death notifications, so you could never be sure how much backup you had as the soldiers.

I wouldn't say that's not dead at all but boggles my mind that people still play stuff like that and wc2 or bf2 or whatever. I'd imagine playing with the same 15 people would get old after awhile.

Yeah part of the reason why I liked SoF2 and Tribes so much was that I was a wee kid and had hours to get good at that poo poo. I remember being good enough at SoF2 that in a capture the briefcase, best of seven, I could play blue and consistently go up to 6-0, then switch red then win 7-6. Mods actively observed me to see if I was cheating but every time they concluded nah he's just that drat good.

F.E.A.R. was also a really good online game. The standalone F.E.A.R. Combat still has like two servers that get a few people but other than that it's gone. You can't play retail anymore because it was a GameSpy title.

Stop for me, it's the claw!

Hidden servers I used to play had disabled the one shot kill move, so you had to get 3 hits on every person to kill them. Other things you could do are pick up a body, leap with it and then let go in mid air to fling it across the map, or land on top of a guy camping in a corner (landing on people did no damage) and dangle a dead body in their face.

Dead By Daylight isn't really much like the Hidden. In the Hidden, the non-hunter players actually had guns and the objective was to kill the hunter while the hunter's objective was to kill the players, which is totally different from Dead By Daylight's gameplay model where the players are powerless against the killer but the killer has to kill the players in annoying convoluted ways.

With HL chat, I just thought of Condition Zero. It never really got the respect it deserved, IMO - I ended up putting way more hours into Condition Zero than CS 1.6, partly because of the new skins and partly because they got rid of grenade wall damage.

The single player was garbage thought, I don't even know why the attempted that.

It's too bad there's like 6 servers for CZ and 9 million for 1.6

...literally the only thing those two modes have in common is that they both involve 1 player against the rest, saxton hale is shittier than normal tf2 and is about killing someone with a lot of health and OP abilities instead of someone relying on stealth to stay alive

There's variants with lower-health spy-based classes, also its not actually difficult to kill most of those bosses; if anything, the health is to make up for the fact that even basic coordination can make it extremely difficult to melee them.

Agreed, but if I can search for servers in the browser and find multiple full servers, a game is not dead.

Maybe if this thread were titled "favorite multiplayer games that don't have player counts as high as when they were released", but imho JKJA is not dead.

Haha, yeah, I was going to mention all that in my original post but figured it was massive already, it was so so good not having death notifications, and being all "poo poo, guys? Guys? Where you at guys?" And then walking into a room to see them all hanging dead from the rafters like "...Oh poo poo...."

The Hidden could do freaky voice emotes too, so you could totally go '.....LlLlloOooOoooOoooKkkKk uUuUuuuUuppPpp!!!' And then drop on someone's soft meaty face and slash them to bits.
