I did this at a Starbucks to download Human Revolution on launch day. It was a hard lesson to learn because I bought the disc version and put it into my CD drive and was all excited to install it and it said "alright great, launch Steam with the disc in and we will start downloading". So I sat at a Starbucks for 5 hours drinking one coffee extremely slowly while I downloaded and patched the game

im glad half life 2 made this acceptable

It actually really sucks that you can't just tell steam you don't want to update a game and then still play it if it does get an update

yeah actually its good because now developers have to update their broken games or be owned by the vigilant horde of steam user reviewers ensuring higher product quality for all.
