I don't know if I've ever come into a thread before to stand up for one specific poster but Heath has posted in PYF for years and I think he is currently being mischaracterized and attacked for no good reason.

I sincerely don't know why any of you expect us to be able to shut down fyad when Lowtax explicitly told us, the mod team, we are not allowed to do that. We are probating and banning shitheads as they appear but we don't own the site and so constantly reminding us fyad should be closed is doing nothing useful unless you're saying it directly to him.

Ariong posted:I must admit, I don’t really understand the difference between a super mod and an admin. It seems like a super mod is just a reserve admin. It's a baby admin, like how IKs are baby mods. They don't have access to the panel nor the ability to approve any mod queue punishments outside of those available to standard moderators. They'll typically defer to the "real" moderators of a subforum outside of emergent situations, and ideally they never have to flex their powers at all, but they're there to help handle crises cross-forums when necessary.

Ariong posted:I’m not quite sure what “no access to the panel” means as, having never been a mod or admin, I don’t really know what the panel is or does. Does that mean that they can’t probate or ban people? Oh, sorry The administrative panel is what is used for editing subforums, changing user names and avatars, uploading images and smilies, adding and removing mods and IKs, assigning non-standard thread tags -- etc -- pretty much everything an admin does that a mod can't gets done through the panel. As per the name only admins have access to it. Regarding sixers Jeffrey just changed the code so that mods and supermods autoapprove punishments up to three days. I think they're just sticking with their current stars. e: it occurred to me that since "panel" was something that I didn't even think to explain, I will also clarify that most mods only have powers in their specific home forums. Is that standard knowledge? This account can only issue probations etc in PYF and PI, so that's why when you see me ban people in other forums it's on the admin one. The supermods get buttons in all of the forums, like admins do, rather than in only their home forums like standard mods. That's the super bit. fool of sound posted:I didn't know it till I got IK'd but IKs have literally all the powers of mods but cannot see the mod forum or reports. That's the only difference. Except. Except! They didn't get the new improved autoapprovals, they still only autoapprove sixers (provided the new code is working right ). Jeffrey has been busy. That's correct, Tunicate. They're still only primary mods of their own forums, but they're available now to put out fires in other subs when the appropriate mods and/or the admins aren't around. That's the hope, Nuns. We might not be able to close fyad but in the meantime we are trying to put measures in place to respond more effectively to forums disasters in the future.

Honestly I would have declined that had I gotten to the queue before NYC did, not to undermine Pastry but I think the six was sufficient. I'll remove it. That said the poster who observed ArfJason could have just gone away until the puns were over had the right of it, in my opinion. If things get really out of hand I'll step in but for the most part I consider pun chains an occasional hazard of reading PYF. LITERALLY A BIRD has a new favorite as of 06:44 on Dec 31, 2019 |

They're new, Ariong, along with 18 hour ones. The disparity between a week and a month of probation was just too much. And, as we saw when Pastry's three-day went to queue instead of being auto-processed, I was mistaken and mods/supermods only autoapprove up to 24 hours.

purple death ray posted:My favorite thing was the time mods changed the titles of most threads in pyf to be identical and nobody noticed for a little while, but then eventually the entire forum had a disassociative episode and couldn't tell any of them apart. I wish I could remember the exact phrasing of the common thread title, it combined a few of the megathreads into one sentence that was me, and it was "awkward ugly & gross idiots on social medias' anti-food porn that didn't happen schadenfreude megathread," I still have the word doc I'd made with all the original thread names in it for sorting them back out after lol.
