PC port is out, it's perfect, and Aaron still a moron who gets trapped in a pond! Everything plays like silk and looks the best it has ever has on the 360 and all the music is there.

Man I love the original Dead Rising still. Only restarted once mostly due to Aaron dying and since i haven't saved in a while I just let myself die and take what levels I had to a new save. Now I am at the last stretch before Overtime Mode starts. That said, it been a while since I played through the other three games.

While Off the Record is a more enchanced version of 2, I kinda want to go through Dead Rising 2 proper first before doing Off the Record and 3 again. It would be nice to play 2 and 3 again, as I have both on Steam and both games had the bad luck of being played on my PC at the time that were below specs on the PC I had at the time of both games release.

That said, I probaby won't try to get all survivors in 2 and save more of that stuff for Off the Record. Especialy since 2 had some really annoying survivors to save like the poker players and the group that you never get a call about and had to find their hideout in multiple days.

While I'm glad they kept a lot of the jank intact, I'm surprised they didn't fix the geometry of the ledge or just outright change it into a ramp or something. Like the timer, the general survivor AI, the combat, those were all generally game design decisions but how survivors just broke down whenever a pack of them reach that ledge just seemed broken.

Like you can't even use the excuse that the average person would of course act irrational if there were zombies right behind them and they had to climb something because zombies don't even show up on the roof during the story!

Except for the start of Overtime mode when the zombies suddenly are at the helicopter pad and never show up again after the cutscene.

As for 3, I did like it. Game does lose some of the charm of the other games. It weird on it's tone, as it has a more serious tone to the game....then you fight your best friend who flying around as a astronaut in a museum tossing globes at you, or your mother figure gets her arm cut off and you replace it with a blowtorch.

Yay beat Dead Rising 1 again. Got all surivovrs on the 'second run' since I restarted very early on due to Bill dying while waiting on the two idiots in the clothing store to join so I just let myself die and keep all the levels I had gained. Tried to do a second playthrough to get Frank the Pimp and the one to get all psychopaths photograph, but died to Cletus without saving so I just save that stuff for another day and move on to Dead Rising 2.

Much I hate to use trainers in games, I love one that makes doing Zombie Genocider and the Infinity Mode stuff a breeze. I did that legit back when the game came out...never again.

I dunno. Once you knew where to get the mini chainsaws and the books to increase durability, the game was trivialized in just the same way. Even more so honestly, since those chainsaws would end up lasting waaaay longer than each of 2's combo weapons. At least 2 incentivized me to pick up any boxing gloves or bowie knives I passed by.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Mini-Chainsaw is no more broken then combo weapons. When I was playing it again, the only bosses that gave me problems were Cletus, Adam, and oddly Isabella. The first two is before you get the mini-chainsaw and you need to use what you can fight. The later I just kept getting juggled by her and couldn't get a hit on her. And since there is poo poo for health items in North Plaza and I don't think you can go into the supermarket once the fights starts or get the case failed...I just get wrecked.

Even with combo weapons 2 is still pretty tough. I always remembered Antoine being a huge pain in the rear end to fight. And same with the biker fight for the same reason Isabella was a pain. Granted that one is easier to get him stuck on the geometry...he also has more health then Isabella.

Maybe I missed it or something, but it doesn't seem like DR2 OTR has any in game options to change key bindings. It'd be nice if Capcom touched up and fixed/added some features to DR2/OTR. Borderless window would be nice.

Yeah this is why I haven't jump straight into DR2/OTR after beating Dead Rising. The PC port of the later had so many quality of life changes, like complete remapping and smart control switching. Heck, it even had DS4 native support.

Replaying Dead Rising 1 is kind of surprising really. The last time I had really played it was just before Dead Rising 2 came out but the mall is way smaller than I remembered it being. When the leaked pre-alpha footage of Dead Rising 4 showed off the mall, I remembered thinking that it seemed awfully small compared to Dead Rising 1 but if anything, the mall in 4 is probably a good bit bigger. I'm also surprised at how limited the interactivity is. It's nice that you're looking around for weapons which break easily to fight zombies with as opposed to just creating the most powerful combo weapons and stockpiling them but the silly little things like outfits for Frank to wear and what kind of shoes he wears is much more limited than I remembered and especially compared to the sequels.

I'm still enjoying the replay though, mostly because it presents a real challenge again and has a certain charm the sequels kind of lack. I'm just surprised at how tiny the mall is when back in 2006 it was mindblowingly huge to me.

Yeah, there is a lot of stores in the game that have no purpose at all. The worst example being the North Plaza, that is just a bunch of empty rooms outside of the CD store and weapon shop.

Well the main draw of the game was the massive, for the time, amount of zombies on screen at once in an environment that was pretty detailed for 2006, Dead Rising 1 was also responsible for many an Xbox 360 self destructing due to the 7 day survivor mode because the dreaded RRoD was rampant then.

SettingSun posted:

Yes, nostalgia is an interesting thing. I remember in my teenage years when I first played DR1 that it was the most massive, detailed thing ever, but this was coming from the PS2 days. But now we're coming from the other direction technologically I'm playing DR1 thinking "This feels more barren than I remember". Not that it is barren, really, but my brain remembered more.

Yeah I remember seeing the old thread at SA showing the screenshots and just being overwelm at how much this game can be. It was one of the big pushing points to get a 360 (along with playing Oblivion at my sister's house) and the game exceeded what I expecting so I was very happy.

Yeah that was really bad in the final part of the game with you and Isabella in the cave, as it was easy to lose your grip with her and being forced to kill half the zombies there to grab her hand again.

Dead Rising 2 still looks really good, but any way to get rid of the stupid black spots at the top? They look really bad and out of place on the HUD.

Does that one survivor in the vanilla version of DR2 still shoot himself immediately if you're playing co-op and one of you isn't right next to help when the other is talking to him? Like the game programs him to do it if you start to walk away from him in single player because he's suicidal but it interprets the co-op partner who's farther away as doing that action I think.

I think he was one of the only survivors who was removed/replaced in OTR because of that, in addition to a few others like that promotional Playboy bunny survivor that's already saved at the start of the game. That was a weird promotion DR2 had.

The playboy bunny is still in OtR, but she had whole model replaced.

Hate to double post, but man I forgot how much of a pain Brandon is in Dead Rising 2. I know he mandatory in Off the Record, but he a lot easier over there. Also he probably one of the few times it better to not take anyone with you, as he was tearing through the HP of the nerd club like it was nothing before I got killed by his knife attack that seems to do 4 blocks of HP of damage.

After a few "I will try all in and hope they don't fall for my bluff on my lovely hand" failures, I beat the poker players after about a hour of failed tries and me figuring I should go kill the postman so I don't have him waiting for me when I take the shortcut. The last match was hilarious since Neveda and Jakob both tried to do a high bid and immediately got knocked out. Which is good since Jessica likes to bid on bad hands, so didn't last very long. And I have plenty of time to do the Tape It Or Die quest while dealing with RonaldRichard's quest and taking out McCree.

Gathering the Bombs under the mall is still an awful experience, its made even more fun by being swarmed by thousands of zombies and Carlito driving into you and throwing grenades a lot.

The part that really was annoying is destroying Carlito's truck will send you randomly into a hallway full of zombies.

Also I forgot how annoying the gas zombies were. Even the King Zombies in 3 were no where near as annoying as those fuckers. At least I can tell the King Zombies from the generic zombies, where the Gas Zombies tend to blend in. And getting grabbed when using a DS4 is annoying since the button prompts don't match the controller.

I know you can escort Bibi and her hostages through the Gas Zombies in DR2 as her mission doesn't expire until after the Gas event starts, why you would want to do this is another matter entirely.

Oh lord that would make the part where you need to lure zombies to the stage and then save her be a pain.

cheat engine's a thing, so real mega buster at least is trivially doable by figuring out where the zombies killed number is (search for your zombies killed, kill a zombie, search again until you have only one option for it), setting it to 600k, and then going and getting your poo poo killed.

the other 2 i'm less sure about

I imagine the later two are probably could be cheated by turning on infinite health to off set the health degrade from Infinity Mode. Dunno if you could turn it off through.

I think it's mostly down to how Capcom has the most recurring characters in franchises of any company in the industry.

There is something weird going on with how they hire talent, though. The last Resident Evil game has all the telltale signs of having been a non-union gig, like how everyone in it is using somewhat vague pseudonyms. I suspect they may simply be trying to keep costs down however they can.

It's weird how the lengthy tutorial mission turned into a franchise constant. There's a lot more of DR3 in this than I would've expected.

I like Vick, though. I hope she lives.

(Also, weird continuity there with DR2: Frank's mentoring another female Asian reporter.)

Edit: Wow, I was not expecting to ever see Brad Park again.

Guess the backstory from Off the Record about Rebecca being a former co-worker is canon.

It weird how they think people hate the timelimit and survivors so much to remove them, yet games like Day Z sell a ton, with really heavy survival restrictions?
