I played LttP a bit on Switch the other day and it was the first time I was aware of his pink hair. I always knew intellectually that his hair was pink, but playing it on an HD TV without the benefit of dithering killed the illusion of him being blonde and not that particular shade of pink used for the interior of the Simpsons' house

Moby-Dick has a ton of POC in it and probably has more progressive race attitudes than 99% of the literature of its time. They should have put Queequeg spooning Ishmael on the cover

Dreylad posted:using AI to rewrite a story written by a black man to make it more woke is a hell of a thing They didn't rewrite (or indeed read) anything, they just blackfaced a character from the book whose race wasn't explicitly stated and put it on the cover to market the book to ???

Dreylad posted:this whole debacle has strong YA fiction influencer vibes I was thinking this poo poo has its origins in Rowling being like "well I never said Hermione wasn't black " so now people think if the book doesn't specifically say "she was in fact white, with alabaster skin, smooth as milk and flour, a lily in a sea of pearls" that well actually why couldn't she be black, in fact why shouldn't she be black And that's how you get https://twitter.com/KarenMusings/status/1224881915037134849?s=20 https://twitter.com/yesitshanna/status/1224916420313534464?s=20

ate poo poo on live tv posted:In addition to how dumb all this is, why not just promote some actual, real written literature that has black characters in it? It certainly exists, and has existed since as long as any of those stories did. You could even use "AI" or "machine learning" to translate into english.... My assumption is that those books don't sell well even on their own and they can't cash in on the novelty of racebending a character in a classic book that already has a caché among white folks (who are their actual target audience with this poo poo, I'm sure.) Classics like Moby-Dick are consistent sellers and are already well known. Other classics like Native Son are also well known but already feature black people, so how are we gonna sell that?

Crane Fist posted:It might not have been an intentional statement but it seems pretty clear what they were saying Let me try to parse this. I think the OP is trying to make the point that casting a male figure in a prestigious lead chef job is at least in conflict with the supposition that the establishment is supposed to be a celebration of women, which is at best in poor taste and at worst hypocritical, but you're saying that they may have done it unintentionally, therefore it's clear that what they meant by it is that ... Men should be serving women? Or shouldn't be? Or what? Obviously it's not clear, especially if you yourself can't determine if it was intentional or not Heath has issued a correction as of 03:55 on Oct 13, 2020 |
