Local shops all seem to have VA1 or VA3. On a genesis topic, these showed up in the mail! $70 for the pair on ebay seemed fair to me. One has a slight tear on the cover, the other has a rental-style photocopy manual, but honestly I like that type of throwback.

But sure the Sega CD has stereo RCA out if you have it attached to a model 1.

Is the Neo Geo AES region locked? eBay seems to have almost all Japanese consoles which are of course expensive, but the US ones are even more so. I have a few AES games and would like to play. Don't care about CIB, just want a functioning console with hookups.

What is the real difference between an AES and MVS cart anyway? Are the pins just wired diferently a-la PC Engine/TG16? I thought I saw someone buying a cheap 161-in-1 cart and converting it where it just had wires all over internally, but now I cannot find it.

The only shooter that I've ever been able to pull that off on is Blazing Lasers. There's others that I've gotten close (Gradius and Parodius games mainly), but haven't been able to do it. I kind of want to start with something relatively new me; it's okay if I've played it a few times but if I can get to stage four or five on a credit I probably won't want to go for it. Bullet hell is not my forte and I know Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun are out mainly because I think I'd kill myself before I managed to clear them on a credit. I haven't gotten super far in it, but Phelios on Genesis is super fun and is a nice change up. Instead of space aliens it's Greek mythology. Vertical though. My Turbo Duo stopped reading CD-R's about 15 minutes after deciding to spend the day playing Dracula X. It just went black, but before that the music track would play once in a level but not loop. I also tested a few other games Id burned months ago - Lord of Thunder, Ys 4, now they all just go black when you load. Fortunately it still plays real discs. Curious if anyone else encountered this? They're all the same type of media and burner so it's hard to adjust that variable. I realize this is borderline but does anyone sell 'repro' discs that are actually pressed? I really don't want to spend $160 for a game (although I guess I could always sell it after?)

It reads real discs fine, at least at the moment. Googling led me to these guys- I think they were mentioned on the 'Repros' game sack episode as possibly being dicks for not giving credit to translators of some of the things they sell, but I could have that wrong. https://pceworks.wordpress.com/availability/ https://pceworks.wordpress.com/2016/11/02/akumajo-dracula-x/ I emailed to see how the discs are actually made. Edit: added direct url. Also it looks like someone is selling this on ebay as new/factory sealed for >$100. They really need to change up the cover art or print REPRO on it or something. falz fucked around with this message at 19:09 on Dec 31, 2016 |

Interesting, i'll look in to adjusting laser a bit more. I do see that you can get replacement new lasers for $20ish on Ebay still (model HOP-M3), may be the way to go. Also, that website emailed back already- their discs are pressed if anyone is curious. If anyone else is curious about these guys, aforementioned Gamesack notes are at these timestamps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrt27X2frjI&t=272s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrt27X2frjI&t=1023s Interestingly it appears that when they get discs stamps they may give away a bunch of disc-only copies on http://freeturbodiscs.com/, but they're currently all out.

At least, I know that the CD drive unit I had would be kind of iffy about discs burned with my desktop's full-fledged DVD burner drive, but would also be quite solid with those burned with the CD burner in a ten year old Thinkpad I have. Now that I think of it I do have a PC in the other room it just never gets used. Maybe ill re-burn my problematic image from there just to see what happens.
