Ofecks posted:They only sold US models, at least when I bought my Duo in 2002. The R and RX were JP-only. The guy I talked to on the phone said there weren't many left. I recall looking at the site after a little while and they were sold out. It came with a weird controller - a TurboPad hacked with a Duo-compatible cable. It came with the Gate of Thunder 3-in-1 CD but not Ys or the random HuCard as in the retail package. They must have taken those items out to sell separately. I was never able to get any CDRs to work on it. Tried a bunch of different brands of blank media but it was probably the burner I had at the time. Yeah I guess they only had us stuff. I gone mine in 98 or so and it had ys and what not. Burned CDs of better quality should work, I asked that same question in here like a year ago and there was one brand recommend which I can't remember except maybe it sounded Japanese. Turbo zone direct still has an ebay store but it's just random poo poo.

Isn't it more like "how Genesis music was coded several years after the console was released"? It is really cool that there's midi modtracker program specificly for the Genesis though.

I know we all know this, but prices for all 8/16 bit cart based consoles are high. Most games are still less than their original MSRP though, even with inflation. Hell some games cost wayyyy less. Street fighter 2 was insanely expensive new, Virtua Racing on Genesis was $100 new, tons of Genesis sports games you wouldn't buy for $2cib now were like $80 new. Edit ^ that's cheaper than new when adjusted for inflation?

I would think it would be near or just after end of the console's next gen successor. And pricecharting has charts of all kinds.

Speaking of, I'm not seeing any updates on that Genesis starfox port. It did appear to run at similar frame rate without any special helper chips though. BLAST PROCESSING!

I still have my imported in '98 Japanese it was god mode back then as far as graphic upgrade from previous gen. For some dumb reason I threw away the original box (the orange one) like 10 years ago. Derp. I could never get through Sonic Adventure 2 because the US game senses it as Japanese and shows everything in moon language.

Has anyone made an attempt to hack the roms in those 161 carts to remove a fighting game and plop in windjammers instead? Seems like you could dump one of the roms, hack it in, solder in new rom. Or just someone that speaks Chinese to ask whoever actually makes them?

Three adapters or maybe the Genesis duo/trio adapter could power the Genesis and NES.

univbee posted:The most difficult console to get in working order right now is probably the Atari Jaguar CD, which was a flaky piece of poo poo even when it was new, and very few were sold since it was a lovely expensive add-on for a lovely expensive console. Since you mentioned Jaguar, everyone should watch this video which has a pretty in depth background on its existence, as well as the CD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsQY0YEqzYo The system itsself was actually really cheap - $200, I was quite surprised by that. The CD add on just came out wayyyyy after the system was dead. I think the video says they only made/sold a few thousand? All videos by this guy (Wrestling with Gaming) are really good as well.

Sir Tonk posted:Given the timeframe, it was. The Sega CD was expensive and so was the 32X, considering that you needed a Genesis either way. The 3DO, CDI, and coming Saturn were all outrageous, while the Playstation was still $100 more. If the Jaguar had actually been well designed, it would've been an amazing bargain. TG16/Genesis/SNES all ~$100 for the core system (no game) Jaguar was $200 new "64 bit" console Sega CD - $230 Turbo Duo was probably ~$300 CDi - who cares 3dO - $700 Jaguar seems like a good deal in that comparison - genesis was already out for 4 years, SNES 2, 4x the bits! Check out this 1997 Jaguar fire sale though (Jaguar $59 CD addon $89 w/ 4 games): http://www.vintagecomputing.com/index.php/archives/1012/retro-scan-of-the-week-atari-jaguar-in-tigerdirect

I was usually pretty good about fire sale Toys R Us items - I know I got my Nomad for $50 or so, 32x for probably $30 or so. I never recall seeing a Jaguar at TrU though. The firesale in that ad is mentioned in the video I linked to a few posts ago and looks like its mail order only, so maybe that's why.

Or a bunch of SNES rpgs getting skipped because someone saw the translation cost and would just say it wouldn't sell enough, cancel that. For some reason I'm remembering the too hard thing for 16 bit era too, before the PlayStation was a twinkle in Sony's eye. Unsure why, maybe it's in an old video game magazine that covered some Japan news at the time. Anyone know the actual reason that Contra Hard Corps port US was made 5x harder? Rental excuse should only apply to Nintendo imo.
