Didn't they imply in ORAS that every pokemon generation takes place in a separate, slightly different universe? So the fairy type wasn't discovered, it had always been there in the Gen 6 universe.

I'm replaying Heart Gold. As I did with Tangela in Platinum, I am taking a new pokemon with me that I have not used before, and this time it is Aipom.   What a good hand monkey thing.
