I always loved the color scheme for the Phantom in this game. It looks so stylish in that light blue/white color scheme. Also so glad we made it here, this is going to be a fun ride. Edit: I'll never understand why they got rid of the rank display for the score. That was so convenient, I don't know why they got rid of that. nine-gear crow posted:Tracks featured in Mission4: I'll be perfectly honest; I'm glad Skippy was commentating over this video instead of me because all I would say is "SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO BLOCKADE DAMMIT" I kind of love how this mission is kind of cut and dry on its own, but this one track makes it one of the most memorable parts of the game. That is something else.

Not going to lie Crow, that intro you edited in for the Yellows was great.

What's interesting about Bunker Shot is that while it did end up influencing 6's missions quite a bit, you can definitely see a lot of the stylistic choices from 6 in the Infinity version of the mission: ground chatter emphasizing minor characters, the general scale of the map and the way the enemies are placed, things like that.

Nanomashoes posted:There's nothing interesting about Bunker Shot, it's probably the most boring mission in the game. It gets better in infinity though. Let's be real here: comparing this version of Bunker Shot's to Infinity's is just plain unfair. Honestly aside from the mission names being the same the two could not be any more different in basically every way.

So I know it's been a bit since the Stonehenge video dropped, but I have a quick story about the mission I want to share. Depending on your tastes it might be depressing or darkly funny, but hey. So I'm playing through the Stonehenge mission with some attack plane (can't remember which specifically, might have been the A-10). Point being, my plane was not meant to get into a dogfight of any kind, so I ignored the escort planes and focused solely on blasting the hell out of Stonehenge. Then the MISSION UPDATE flashes up and the Yellows come in and I'm like "Oh poo poo, this is not going to be a fun fight, I"m in a bad plane for this." So I charge directly at the lead plane Cipher-style, fire off a pair of missiles and break hard to prepare for the upcoming dogfight because there was too much space between me and the lead plane and there's no way those missiles would- *BOOM* MISSION ACCOMPLISHED "Yellow 13 here. Did anyone see Four get out?" Not going to lie, I felt like a massive bastard after accidentally pulling that stunt.

I dunno dude. I mean the game looks loving amazing and the music sounds great and the idea of having plot elements from two, possibly three of the most beloved games in the series showing up again for the first time in a decade is pretty neat and you can have lasers and EMP blasts with your anime planes now because why not it's cool... But I mean, you don't have to get it. I mean, I am stupidly hyped now that I've gotten a decent taste but it's fine. I'm certain that I'm perfectly unbiased in saying that I think AC7 is looking like it's going to be the game the franchise's fans have been wanting since 6. Really. Really.

I do love the shift in briefing music here; that's such a great touch to show how much the tide is turning. The little things like that are always great. But yeah, it's odd how gimmicky and relatively sparse this and the next mission are after the climax of Stonehenge.

As someone who was watching the stream, believe me when I say that Air Combat is just...no. Just no. Let me put it this way: it makes Ace Combat 2 look fantastic by comparison. That's all you need to know about it really.

nine-gear crow posted:For what it’s worth, PA apparently took the message from getting whacked with the censor stick to heart and has thus far strayed away from broaching any more white hot taboo subjects in Ace Combat games, and as such no other Ace Combat beyond Shattered Skies has seen the Big Red N come down upon it with the cutting room blade. The next time child characters appear in a warzone setting is in Ace Combat 6 coming up two games from now, and when they do they are utterly safe and boring and annoying and I actually kind of wish that little girl just picked up a gun and capped Pasternak with it. It would have maybe made her likable and sure as poo poo would have saved me a lot of trouble… and screaming (though I actually have a bit of a soft spot for the great Flying D-Bag of Easto-Slavia, so maybe not?). To be fair Pasternak is a pretty cool guy aside from the things he does when he fights you which *SPOILERS*. I also freely admit that I have a more dignified nickname for him but it's technically spoilers as well sadly. But we get ahead of ourselves. On more relevant notes, I do really love the atmosphere of this mission with the civilian radio broadcasting and being able to swat Yellows out of the sky. That and the mission's song fits it perfectly.

nine-gear crow posted::WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE ME DO IN ACE COMBAT 04 THAT HASN'T BEEN SHOWN OFF YET? I know we talked about it during our commentary crow, but I will reiterate that there is a thing you absolutely have to do: Megalith. Override the regular BGM with the Infinity version of Blue Skies so we can scientifically determine which is a better track for the mission. You know you want to.

nine-gear crow posted:Thank you, everyone again. So yeah we're not quite done yet with Ace Combat 04. Operation Katina is coming up next week, so look forward to me, CJacobs and ddinkins making GBS threads on Blurry, Puddle of Mudd, and Wes Scantlin for a solid hour next Saturday. Then after that, will be the Bonus Update, and possibly if I can track down Blind Sally maybe we'll see Muptiplayer Mode in action, but no promises. gently caress you blurry is a great song But seriously, congrats on adding another Ace Combat to the archives (well, soon-ish) Crow. You are a credit to LPs. Anyway I figure I should offer my final thoughts on AC4, and it is this: it did a great job providing the building blocks for what made the games following it really good, but at times it has trouble standing on its own. What I mean is that you can unquestionably thank this game for creating a solid set of core mechanics and mission concepts that the rest of the series is based on, I personally feel that everything in AC4-at least gameplay wise-has been done better in other Ace Combats after being refined and reworked to be more interesting. Like how Blockade-a mission in itself-is effectively just one part of a number of AC6's missions. Don't get me wrong, AC4 is still really good on its own, I'm just of the opinion that it has the inevitable problem of being improved upon in every way by the rest of the series. Except for the soundtrack, which is awesome in this game and every Ace Combat since has made sure that it is awesome in their own unique ways.

Everyman posted:With the scenes of prison and the mention of convicts over the radio, I can't help but wonder if the protagonist/allied squadron are conscripted convicts flying for...a reduced sentence or the like. Don't ask me how its supposed to make sense, but it sounds like exactly the kind of wacky drama an Ace Combat game would pull. It's like the French Foreign Legion. Except in Osea. And with more planes.
