Reveal Trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBaSzHdIfI4 Release Date: 7th October, 2016 on PC, Xbox One & PS4 - Preloading for PC is now available, 40.5gb download Website | Facebook | Twitter | Mafia Wikia | Steam Store synopsis posted:It’s 1968 and the rules have changed. After a tour of combat in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. Now back home in New Bordeaux, Lincoln is set on escaping a criminal past. But when his surrogate family, the black mob, is betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family on the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through those responsible. But with the right crew, tough decisions and some dirty hands, it’s possible to make it to the top of the city's underworld. In November 2012, 2K Czech, the developer of the original Mafia: City of Lost Haven (2002) and Mafia II (2010), announced that the company was working on a "top secret, AAA game". After being in a pre-production state of developing the story, setting and creating their own game engine for over a year Mafia 3 entered development sometime in 2012. However, the company was later restructured and in January 2014 the main studio in Prague was shuttered, with resources being allocated to a new headquarters in Novato, California. A new studio called Hangar 13 was established by 2K Games the same year to take over development. The game is set in 1968 New Bordeaux, a re-imagined version of New Orleans, with the open world design allowing players to freely explore the game's world. Various alterations to the world were made to suit the narrative: the bayou and the city have been positioned at close proximity, despite being at a further distance in real Louisiana; the Superdome stadium was being constructed in 1968, but is excluded from the game; and locations such as Canal St. have been omitted from the game for visual aesthetics. The team intended the world to be accessible for high-speed chases. Born on the Bayou - Characters Lincoln Clay (Alex Hernandez) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY39s23xjIs Lincoln Clay is the protagonist of Mafia III, he grew up in Saint Michelle's orphanage in Delray Hollow, New Bordeaux. Still searching for an identity, he joined the United States Army to fight in the Vietnam War, where he watched many of his brothers in arms die in combat. Cassandra (Erica Tazel) | The Voodoo Queen - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvQH-rFadVY Cassandra is a member of the Haitian Mob and forms an unlikely alliance with Lincoln. She's as ruthless as she is mysterious, but one thing is for certain the "Voodoo Queen" will destroy the human trafficking trade in New Bordeaux, no matter the cost. Thomas Burke (Barry O'Rourke) | The Anarchist - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtPZD653XNw Thomas Burke is the leader of the Irish Mob in New Bordeaux, operating out of Burke's Iron & Metal, a local salvage yard. He ran all the rackets in Pointe Verdun for the Marcano Crime Family, including car thefts and vehicle chop shops. Sometime in mid 1966, they had a falling out over a lost shipment and Marcano muscled in and took over all of his operations. In order to regain what he once had, he joins forces with Lincoln Clay. Vittorio Scaletta (Rick Pasqualone) | The Throwback - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW6767-W7fk Vittorio Scaletta is the Italian-American protagonist of 2K Czech's Mafia II, a man who goes from war hero to Made Man in the span of only a few years. A much older Vito returns in Mafia III as a supporting NPC. Following the events of Mafia II in 1951, Vito was exiled to New Bordeaux as part of a deal negotiated by Leo Galante that allowed Vito to live after his assault on the Empire Bay Triads. He is put to work in the Marcano Crime Family and given the River Row district of New Bordeaux to run for Sal Marcano. Vito appeared as an unnamed hit man with Joe Barbero in the ending cutscene of Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, making him the only character to appear in all three games. John Donovan | The Operative John Donovan is an ex C.I.A. agent. As an operative he was sent into Vietnam where he ran covert operations against the North Vietnamese regular and Viet Cong forces. He met Lincoln Clay while fighting in Vietnam and recruited him into the special forces. In August 1971 John Donovan was called to testify before the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence regarding Lincoln Clay's involvement in taking out the Marcano crime family. Sal Marcano | The Italian Mafia - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrxVbLH-t5E Sal Marcano is the Don and Patriarch of the Marcano Crime Family. Brother of Lou and Tommy Marcano and Father of Giorgi. He is probably based on real life mob boss Carlos Marcello, who was the leader of the New Orleans crime family in the 1960s. When the game was revealed a year ago I was skeptical. Not because it had a non-white protagonist-- which set off all the other fans-- but because the driving looked pretty terrible, way too floaty and the cars burst into flames when the wind blew. But they've made a lot of improvements it seems. While they have removed the petrol mechanic of the first two games and the main story missions are 'unlocked' by taking territory which might mean a slightly less structured story than the previous games I think we'll get a fun game out of it all. As long as a third of the game isn't cut near the end of development and replaced with a 2 minute montage cutscene (mafia 2) we should be good. The story takes place in the one year and apparently there will be no Vietnam missions in the game (maybe a dlc?) so the scope is smaller than the previous games, at least in setting.

blackguy32 posted:So I'm guessing we are going to definitively find out what happened to Joe from Mafia 2. He's probably dead but who knows. Dapper_Swindler posted:they said if you get vitto super loyal to you, he explains(maybe playble flashback) what happens. i am sure he is dead. Although, rumours/fan theories are that while Vito was in prison and Joe had to lie low and leave Empire City for 5 years he fled to, you guessed it, New Bordeaux. He might have even had a son in that time, who was put up for adoption. Lincoln Clay is mixed race and was born in 1945 so the timeline could match up, just. Maybe. Although I'm not too much a fan of that fan theory, but it could work out.

Utnayan posted:Sadly, I actually have to ask this question this time around after the abortion of the release which was Mafia 2. Because aside from all that, I loved Mafia 2, it's writing, and the story and all the game play. And I can only imagine how great Mafia 2 would have been with Joe's Adventures not being renamed Joe's Adventures to sell as DLC, and having that finished and completed design in the game to take over when Vito went to prison (As what was intended about 2 weeks prior to launch). Not to mention the open world that was cut to sell as The Betrayal of Jimmy (Preorder DLC) and Jimmy's Vendetta. And the other WW2 missions, they were cut earlier than those ones you mentioned though. That WW2 tutorial map was a larger town and had a few other missions in there which would be flashbacks to play while Vito was in prison.

Most big youtubers got flown to New Orleans for an event last month where they got to record a ton of game play footage. Probably from that but maybe parts he wasnt supposed to show off until closer to launch.

Youtubers are bad at games. There are exceptions, if they do not talk at all and pre-record the video they can be alright at games. If it is a livestream and they commentate they tend to suck. Anyway, unlock times: https://twitter.com/mafiagame/status/783464585562951680
Someone mentioned on IRC that 2k released region locking news too? People from grey key sites will be locked to the EU region? Not sure on that yet. drunkill fucked around with this message at 07:44 on Oct 5, 2016 |

My GMG version (I'm in Australia) in that same activation history screen in my steam profile just has the name of the game, no regions in brackets. So I'm not sure. Updated the OP a bit. Game unlocks for me on steam in one hour (Eastern Australia) and it is not a global launch, it seems. So I removed the times which I added to the OP because they are now wrong. Apparently the day zero patch is around 1gb, but I'm not 100% sure on that, so decrypting and updating might take a little while for some people. Someone was saying 30fps is locked for the pre-release versions the streamers got an hour or three ago, but I have no clue if that is true or not. We'll have to wait it seems. I saw a picture, the physical PC release has 6 CDs. hah.

New nvidia drivers are now out. Also, drat you steam, I thought the game was unlocking 15 minutes ago because the store page said "This game will unlock in approximately an hour' for the whole previous hour, then of course switched over to 'This game will unlock in approximately less than an hour' this hour. Just have a countdown timer. bleh. Oh well, I have Friday off anyway so starting to play a little after 3am is fine by me.

Two hours in. Game owns. Running smoothly here, although I'm not on the highest settings, need a better PC for that The soundtrack is loving astounding, they've used music to great effect in the story missions, when Paint It Black comes on... man. Plus, when Elvis comes on the radio while you're cruising around the Bayou... it just feels right. Once they release a patch hopefully that calms most of the PC masterace haters, because the game in there is pretty solid, I'm having a blast so far, sure, it might get repedetive in the next few hours once I've finished Act 1, but so far so good.

Xeremides posted:With a 30 fps lock, crashes, stuttering on top of a 30 fps lock, and general performance issues, it's a pretty lovely product. That doesn't mean, all of those things taken out of the equation, the game, itself, isn't good. If you're willing to suffer through all of that for the story, and crashing and performance issues only add to the cinematic experience for you, that's fantastic. Keep on keeping on. Don't buy it then? Or get a refund. I have not had any issues. Sure, that means they don't exist, but the only think I've had to suffer though is awesome music and the fact I need to sleep in the next hour or so, when I could be playing this all day.

Pro Tip: Turn on Simulation driving in the settings for Mafia 2 style cars, I've been driving with a controller sometimes (if the drive is like more than a kilometer/40 seconds away and it feels [i]so]/i] good. H is holster weapon, I is batman/vietnam vision, C is carhorn, Shift is look backwards, V is change camera in car. Ctrl is cover, you can switch cover by pressing the direction first then tapping Ctrl to swap from one side of the door to another etc. Vaulting/climbing is spacebar, obviously. ',' changes radio station, '.' turns radio off. Edit: Holy poo poo, the Samson Duke ('68 Chevvy Corvette) is amazing, perfect for drifting and burnouts. Edit 2: 'Pray on the way up' drunkill fucked around with this message at 10:01 on Oct 7, 2016 |

The Haitians are pushing into The Hollow (sammys/black mob territory) so you go out there for some payback/to teach them a lesson after finding out Sammy owes money to Sal (which is the reason you do the heist) Watch the missing cutscene here, 35mins in: https://youtu.be/RttPzGBflNI

Tae posted:It really sucks that you can only carry 2 weapons and apparently one of them has to be a pistol/magnum? Because Shotgun is by far the best weapon because you can one-hit kill via blindfire. I wish it was like Mafia 1, one long weapon to hide in your jacket, and two pistols. And if I'm remembering correctly (I haven't played Mafia 1 since before M2 came out) you could also use a second 'long gun' but you had to carry it and couldn't hide it.
