Yeah pretty crazy for the NBA to jump into this as well, we have some football/soccer teams over here that have esports teams for Fifa, but no league involvement. But there's a lot of big name retired basketball players into esports stuff afaik, so I guess it makes sense for the sport as a whole to dive in.

I think it's a dumb idea pushed by old people who don't understand the appeal but I'm also kind of an old grumpster in general so who knows. The appeal of esports to me at least is that it's different than real sports. Just adapting one to a virtual version and going HEYO ESPORT isn't interesting to me. What's the point? I mean it's a low skill ceiling game too. I'm sure I'd get wrecked by pros but the appeal of high level completive games is seeing cool crazy poo poo. Obviously they'd be working as a serious team but when a highlight play is you running around and pressing the x button that's not really great. Keep in mind I'm a PC player so... That being said with a lot of money riding on it maybe it'll force them to do things like upgrade the servers so they don't go to poo poo every time there's an event and serious work is put into character builds to discourage the worst abuses of the system. More support for ProAM, the best game mode, is good. Also the ~rumour~ has it that MyPark is going to be gone in 2k18, although I don't really believe it. Y'all if you have a parent who is into basketball please sim through a season with them calling the shots in MyLeague. My mom just came over and had me build the blazers around a starting lineup of Tim Frazier, Pat Connaughton, Moe Harkless, Noah Vonleh, and Jusuf Nurkic. Robin Lopez and Serge Ibaka were coming off the bench. They finished the season 13-69. Once free agency hit we signed P Conn to a 5 year 50 mil contract. It was all real funny.

Whoa it's a 2k thread Anyone else totally abandon online play this year? I was trying to do some walk on pro am but it is almost always some giant pulling down 25 boards and shooting 100%, or a guy on my team who has broken their pass button and can only shoot

One thing I'd love to see that will never happen is being able to upload rosters to a 2k website so players could access rosters made on different platforms. I miss how many rosters and draft classes were made by fans for the 360 version. Really excited for 2k18 Switch.

I know they're not made by the same companies, but EA coming out and saying the Switch versions of their sports games won't have the same story mode as Xbox/PS4 has me worried. If the switch version is feature-identical to the others, that's what I'm going with. I can live without 4K graphics if it means myleague from bed.

NBA Live is supposed to have a demo out in August. 2K seems pretty terrible at marketing their basketball game (maybe because they don't really have to?) and only starts putting out info a few weeks before release -- at least it seems like it's been that way for the last two games. I've finally given up on the absolutely dire PC version and am switching over to PS4 if Live doesn't offer a decent alternative (it probably wont). I will say that I do like the archetype system that Live and 2k are both going for, and I imagine 2k18 is going to have a more refined version of what we got in 2k17. But they really need a split between online and MyCareer characters -- grinding for points and stats in the gym to play online is insanely dumb.

I hate 2k's archtype for players. I hate how loving multiplayer balancing torches my ability to be an athletic point guard who can shoot too. I don't give a flying gently caress about multiplayer. Let me play a wing who can both dunk and maybe make an outside shot. Let me be a super star like player.

Archetypes are the worst in 2K, oh you want to be good at blocking and rebounding? Tough poo poo.. As a paint protector you get a pick pocket badge? And as nice as the whole gym aspect is grinding out those stats isnt fun especially when you realise that your paint protector isnt a great rebounder and you have to start again. I started playing again just recently because i am hyped about the new season coming up but haviing to wait for my player still to walk out of the gym every time, and waiting for the coach to repeat the same poo poo that has no relevance every time-out while im furiously mashing the buttons to get back to the game was frustrating as hell. All this being said i have already pre-ordered 2K18 because I just hope they have listened to the communitys gripes. Although i am pretty keen on seeing how NBA Live fares, if it ever gets released.

itd be really cool if 2k just stripped the bullshit from its mycareer mode and let you just play basketball and do simshit out of a menu and played cutscenes when appropriate instead of these loving pointless animations it takes like five minutes to get through 1/3 of a day where you are doing nothing when your character has to spend time entering a pointless room, putting a bag down, picking up the bag, leaving the room, loading the gym, waiting for justice to ask you to do whatever, running to the minigame that takes 10s, waiting for the minigame to start, doing the minigame, watching a bar load up, leave the gym none of that poo poo is loving fun!! why the gently caress is any of it in the game!?

That is the most amazing thing about the MLB the show. Like you can just play through an entire series without having to deal with a ton of loads. You can upgrade in between games but other than that it's just playing the game and then you go back every 2-4 games.
