and Iceland beat England in the second round of the Euros and England appointed Sam Allerdyce as manager

Chile won the Copa America, beating Argentina on penalties in the final.
congratulations Chile

Messi missed his penalty, retired from international football, then changed his mind a little bit later.

Qualification for Russia 2018
=======================

UEFA begin the qualifying campaign for Russia 2018 this season, the rest of the world stretch it out over 4 years or something wtf so everywhere else is already halfway through theirs.

Here's a handy continent by continent guide to qualification for Russia 2018

Asia (4 and a half places)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_AFC_Third_Round

Two Groups. Top 2 from each go through automatically, 3rd in both groups play off against each other to go to the inter-continental play off against the 4th team from North America.

Group A: Iran, South Korea, Uzbekistan, China, Qatar, Syria
Group B: Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Thailand

Africa (5 places)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_CAF_Third_Round

Straightforward this. Five Groups, and the winner in each goes through to the World Cup.

Group A: Tunisia, Libya, Dr. Congo, Guinea
Group B: Zambia, Cameroon, Algeria, Nigeria
Group C: Gabon, Mali, Ivory Coast, Morocco
Group D: Senegal, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde
Group E: Ghana, Egypt, Congo, Uganda

North America (3 and a half places)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_CONCACAF_Fourth_Round

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_CONCACAF_Fifth_Round

At the moment they're in round 4. There's 3 groups of four, and top two go through to the final round of qualifying.

Group A: Mexico, Honduras, Canada, El Salvador
Group B: Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, Haiti
Group C: Trinidad, Tobago, United States, Guatemala, Saint Vincent, The Grenadines (6 teams in this group for some reason)

South America (4 and a half places)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(CONMEBOL)

Bit of a scam the South Americans have going here, 4 and a half places out of 10 get through to the World Cup. It's easier to qualify for this than it is to get to a 24 team Euros!!

Group A: everyone

They've already started the group and Brazil are outside the qualification places hope they dont go through haha

Oceania (half a place)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_OFC_Third_Round

They're in round 3, two groups of three, winners play-off to get to the inter-continental play-off with the 5th best team in south American qualifying.

Group A: New Zealand, New Caledonia, Fiji
Group B: Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tahiti

U E F A (the best one) (13 places)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(UEFA)

Nine groups of 6. Winners go through automatically. 8 best runners-up go to playoffs. I've bolded the 4 best teams in Europe.

Group A: Netherlands, France, Sweden, Bulgaria, Belarus, Luxembourg
Group B: Portugal, Switzerland, Hungary, Faroe Islands, Latvia, Andorra
Group C: Germany, Czech Republic, Northern Ireland, Norway, Azerbaijan, San Marino
Group D: Wales, Austria, Serbia, Ireland, Moldova, Georgia
Group E: Romania, Denmark, Poland, Montenegro, Armenia, Kazakhstan
Group F: England, Slovakia, Scotland, Slovenia, Lithuania, Malta
Group G: Spain, Italy, Albania, Israel, Macedonia, Liechtenstein
Group H: Belgium, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Greece, Estonia, Cyprus, Gibraltar
Group I: Croatia, Iceland, Ukraine, Turkey, Finland, Kosovo

That island's like 6 miles wide; not a whole lot that's not seaside.

The team (well, anyone flying in, really) has to change planes in Barbados because SVG lacks an airport with a runway that can handle a 737 or otherwise typical commercial jet

They are facts. Don't listen to the trolls OP, they are sore losers. Obviously their team isn't one of the best 4 teams in Europe, unlike Portugal and Wales

But hey, Ozil finally got the number 10 from Podolski's cold, dead, thumbs up hands. :unsmith:

Took my son to see Norway - Belarus because we got some free tickets.

It wasn't worth the price. Martin Samuelsen keeps showing promise, and can actually create something, but the rest of the team is bad, really bad.

Can't wait for them to play Germany on sunday. That won't be one-sided at all.
