I've been addicted to Pokémon picross on my commutes. I can't even begin to hang with the big 20x15 puzzles, even with my babby Pokémon powers (I only have 1 that works on 20x15 anyways, greninja).

It kind of makes me want to bust out the ol' graph paper and test some ideas out

Just imagining 3D picross :psyberger:

I think 3D Picross is easier than 2D Picross but it's still awesome

I've played so much 3D though that sometimes I feel like I'm cheating. Like for example if you see something like

🔸🔸🔷🔸

and the line is 1 blue and a 2 Orange circle, 9 times out 10 it's going to be

🔶🔷🔶

so I have been trained to just think in this pattern even if I shouldn't know that yet based on how far I've gotten into the puzzle

ive been thinking it could be cool to blindly work on one layer at a time without being able to see the full shape

Yes. I bought that last night and was immediately at peace. That game is extremely zen.

Now I wish Pokémon picross would let me mark speculative squares like 3D

the marking in 3d-2 is such a smart feature

in 3d-1 it didnt have that, but you could view the layers in all 3 dimentions. marking essentially allows you to interact with the 3rd dimension without that. which is great because that made solving puzzles in 3d-1 rather rote, go through the x layers, go through the y layers, go through the z layers, repeat forever

I've been playing BOXBOY the last couple days. The basic worlds aren't super challenging but the unlockable stages do a pretty great job of making me go "how the fu..."

Haven't even tried the challenges yet.

Also it's charming and the mechanics feel really good.

i dont like how it takes forever to get to the interesting puzzles. all the basic worlds tend to just introduce a new mechanic, give you a few easy puzzles to go with it, and then the mechanic is just completely forgotten about and replaced by the next world's gimmick. it makes the whole game feel like a tutorial, with most of the levels just being a series of "example rooms". a good puzzle game should reuse mechanics constantly and allow them to play off each other in interesting ways, and its frustrating that boxboy has the potential for that but hardly uses it.

That game is extremely good for the first half, the mechanics are unique and interesting and fun etc and then you hit the second half where they completely abandon that type of gameplay for this really confusing multi character nonsense and it was really disappointing to me.

I should get it but I now have Picross e, e2, e3, e4, e5 and e7 to finish as well as a few puzzles in Zelda Picross. Plus the original Picross 3D but Round 2 looks way more interesting. The first time 3D 2 goes on sale it will probably magically appear in my picross folder.

Ooh i love the castle zone. The final puzzles are really cool (and iirc you only have to complete one of the two sets to clear the area but you should do both cuz they're great. They present a nice left brain/right brain sort of split)

some small spoilers re: the village -- its absolutely meant to be the last area you do . some other zones are gated by some basic poo poo from other ones but the village puzzles incorporate rules that you learn in all other 10 areas .... feel free to push as far as you can if you haven't finished the rest yet but don't feel dumb if it stumps you at some point

i get the 'make the shape' gimmick i'm just retarded and can't seem to figure out this 3x3 grid with the same pieces as the 4x4 right before it. i used to think i was smart but playing this game has been really humbling. the towns puzzles are total enigmas to me despite being familiar with most of the rules at play.. the desert zone and the trial and error style of puzzle solving where you try to find the right place to stand to catch the reflection is dumb i agree. i love this game though. my favorite puzzle game easily
