If I recall correctly, just after World War 2, the only thing many Japanese thought about the Jewish people were "they make lots of money, we should emulate what lets them make lots of money". Everything else was kind of secondary, what with reconstruction and all. Which, to be fair to Japan, is not exactly far removed from a lot of Westerners' thinking...
