Update 166 And so at last we come to this, the end of all things... at least as far as the main quest is concerned. We've found our lost child and now we're going to severely disappoint him by leading the Railroad to storm his life's work and then blow the whole thing up. The button to do so is big and red, and we get to push it... in fact, nobody else is going to push it. Almost makes me wonder if we could have just walked away. Anyway, we're not done here since there's still some things to do after the main quest and we've got the Far Harbor and Nuka World DLCs. Just remember: War never changes.

Update 167 So we're done with the Institute, and now Preston is VERY disappointed in us. Something something genocide, something something Black Mark on the Minutemen... anyway, we're ditching him for Nick since Far Harbor focuses on some of his back story. We've got a settlement in need of rescuing, and after that it seems like something is up in Diamond City with the Mayor... Thesaya posted:I had so many comments but then I fell asleep and now it's morning and I've forgotten them. So I am commenting to say that instead. That's okay, they will return and the good thing about the internet is that we will still be here.

Update 168 Now that we've dealt with Mayor McDoughnut, it's time to fulfill our promise and head to Far Harbor. Of course, once we show up we immediately ignore the main quest bringing us here and instead start dealing with whatever problems the locals have. That's some vengeance for Cassie Dalton and retrieving some power tools for The Mariner.. which is actually one of the single most sensible quests we've been sent on, come to think of it. I mean, really, if you've got a working generator power tools are a must have in building your wasteland fortress. I love this. Just looking at it makes me think "You know, we REALLY need to start some of the central quests in Far Harbor so we can get into Nick's weirdness." ThaGhettoJew posted:This is, of course, excellent. And he's really going to earn that haunted look hanging out with our Archer. I think he's already there... if nothing else, the whole "chumming for Mirelurks" thing would produce that look.

Seriously Nancy, do you think that anyone buying a remotely controlled vibrator would be controlling it themselves in the first place, and not use it for powerplay?

Update 169 Come for the island adventure, stay for the funeral talk. Today we're going around and exploring the island some more as we run some more errands. Cassie Dalton's got something else she wants murdered, the Mariner wants more boat parts, and the boss around these parts wants us to fix fog collectors (whatever they do). We also meet a drunken bartender version of the Fonz from Happy Days and what looks like Hemingway, but he wants us to continue the main quest so we're not going to do that. Instead, let there be various types of mayhem! Mostly related to crustaceans. Also, we may have to delay or cancel this week's stream. Nancy's dealing with some laryngitis and there's a real question as to whether she'll be up for speaking tomorrow. We'll see how she's feeling in the evening. Thesaya posted:Seriously Nancy, do you think that anyone buying a remotely controlled vibrator would be controlling it themselves in the first place, and not use it for powerplay? To hell with hacking cars, let's hack some of those instead! On second thought, somebody's probably already made a movie about that. Possibly something that was on Cinemax at 2 in the morning.

Update 170 Today we're all about helping the Mariner, trekking our way across the island to get to the old ship she wants to use for scrap. There's all kinds of critters running around the island and there's a bunch of crazy trappers on the boat when we get there, but we have multiple calibers of solution for that. Once we go back to tell all the good townspeople what we've accomplished, the town doctors has a great plan for us: chumming for mirelurks to show everyone how awesome we are. No way this can go wrong! Thesaya posted:So, when are you going to put on your armed tuxedo and be properly outfitted? There's actually a quest here on the island where that would in fact be the perfect outfit. I'll have Nancy remind me when we get there.

I don't even like sitting through our standard Swedish Lutheran funerals, but at least those have personalised bible verses to the person and such... I can't imagine sitting there not even understanding the words. Oh, and Boy scouts of America honestly gives the rest of us scouts a bad name. I was active between 8 and like 20 and still consider myself one, and one of our main things has always been inclusion of everyone. Thesaya fucked around with this message at 15:40 on Apr 5, 2017 |

Update 171 A late update today due to a busy day, but here we are. First off we're heading back to the Commonwealth to try and defend our settlements and... well, let's just say that after this they have to fend for themselves. Once we're back at the Harbor it's time to head toward the Captain's Danse and all points inbetween, which means a lot of dead trappers along the way. The real question, disturbing as it is, is what they're trapping out here in the Fog.

Update 172 And fresh off of that we have today's update, delivered early because today also looks like it's going to be busy. The word of the day today is "save" as we approach the old light house that Cassie Dalton sent us to. It turns out we aren't the first, and technically we're not the last either as an unfortunate accident and my failure to do the word of the day means that we end up committing the same mayhem twice. We do, however, discover the existence of Rad Chickens so I consider that a net positive. Next update will be the long-promised chumming for mirelurks.

...the thing about poring ouzo and yelling "opa" is a tourist thing. Just so you know. I sympatise with your server. Saganaki is amazing, but that bit is really not part of it. The Ouzo flambee might be nice and all, but the "opa" bit?... Maybe an american thing even? I have been to Greece almost every year as a kid, visiting a lot of islands, but this is the first time I have ever heard of this thing. tbh, I am currently imagining you expecting something like that in a tiny village on a tiny village and sniggering a bit to myself... Update 173 It's time to dance, and by dance I mean go off into a mirelurk infested swamp and drop meat in the water then kill whatever comes to visit. With the locals hiding in the bushes to watch, because that's how we do things around here. After we get a MUCH bigger catch than anticipated we've won the respect of the townsfolk and a party in our honor, along with an experience boosting meal that is obviously too precious to eat. Thesaya posted:...the thing about poring ouzo and yelling "opa" is a tourist thing. Just so you know. I sympatise with your server. Saganaki is amazing, but that bit is really not part of it. It was on the docks and there's got to be a dozen restaurants around there that all do the same thing. It's touristy, but it's also somewhere that the locals go so who knows? And the Ouzo flambee just gets this nice crispness to the outside that really makes it work. ultrabindu posted:As always the Japanese are ahead of the curve: Of course they are. Of course. Update 174 We pick up this week with the actual plot of Far Harbor, following it and Longfellow into the fog in search of Acadia. Or Arcadia. I always get those confused. Anyway, we get a chance to meet Nick's creepy clone prototype brother who seems like he's maybe a bit on the shady side. The object of our search, Kasumi, feels about the same way and wants us to look into it. Now we could just ASK him what's going on, but that's no fun so let the skulduggery commence! ultrabindu posted:The studio should have renamed it the Krispy Kremey Power Rangers. In retrospect, it's probably a good thing that I saw the movie in the evening and out of town so that I had no idea where the closest Krispy Kreme was.

Update 175 Okay, so much for our flirtation with the main quest. We've got new people to get sidequests from, so we're going to use that to explore the island. We start off with a search for a missing synth that gets really dark really quick, then move on to convincing an old man to leave his home and move into town. The ungrateful old bugger demands that we kill a bunch of trappers who are here to murder him before he'll go anywhere, so we reluctantly oblige. Some people are just such a pain in the neck, you know? As a note, we'll be streaming on Thursday this weekend since we've got enough footage to carry until then and it's a good way to start the holiday weekend. Maybe it'll be a murder mystery Thursday... we'll see. ultrabindu posted:It was so shameless it reminds me of this Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

Nancy is talking about the disease Kuru, at least that's what it's called in humans. It's caused by eating mis formed proteins. Because they're proteins and not a virus or bacteria, there's really no anti-bacterial or anti-viral treatment for it, and you can't inoculate against it. Brain and spinal matter are where these prions occur most often, but can be found in other meat, and are most easily transmitted by eating meat/brain matter of your own spices. Sometimes other species can be affected by them, but that's much less common. However, during the mad cow scares, there were enough probably infected cows that it significantly increased the risk. If you're NOT grinding up your slaughterhouse leavings and feeding them to your other cows, you may still see it occasionally in your stock, but it will have such a low incidence rate that it will almost never transfer to humans. The only way to make infected meat safe to eat is to cook it long and hot enough to denature the protein, which pretty much destroys all nutritional value and taste (see also: burned to ash).

Update 176 Today we're crossing the island yet again to make a settlement safe for the Harbormen on behalf of Little Bertha, because that's what they need to get their groove back. In practice this means making our way over there and killing some fog ghouls and a crazy cannibal trapper, which you might have noticed by now is kind of a recurring theme on the island. Turning in all of our quests nets us a level up, and now how the Harbormen are going to get across the island to that settlement is their own problem. That's not a complaint about Bethesda not throwing in an escort mission or something, it's literally not my problem and I'm happy about that. The pig story reminds me of Robert Pickton, a Canadian serial killer who killed between 26 and 49 women and disposed of them at his pigfarm. And regarding smoking, I didn't even try until I was 18, but started at like 23 because it helped me with anxiety. Been thinking about getting a vape instead though, since it is more about having something to do when walking and having an excuse for breaks from social situations than actual physical addiction. The book you were discussing where someone shat in their armor, that's Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. Second in the Stormlight archives. Excellent series if anyone hasn't read it. Also, I'm loving the railway rifle. Catching up on the videos, but are there more upgrades for it? Recon scopes are cool, but good lord they look so dumb on it. Like chroming parts of a rusted out pinto or something. Sure, it works great, but drat does it look weird.

Update 177 To close out last week's stream we do a little bit of sprucing up in our new settlement, but there's only so much you can do with a creepy fog island shantytown. After that it's time to be vewy, vewy quiet... we're hunting Mirelurks. And I mean, really hunting mirelurks. You wouldn't think they'd be so hard to find since we were up to our elbows in them earlier but it takes a few minutes and by that time we're ready to call it a night. Stream is still on course for tonight, and the good news is that Nancy has her voice back. Thesaya posted:The pig story reminds me of Robert Pickton, a Canadian serial killer who killed between 26 and 49 women and disposed of them at his pigfarm. What sticks out to me about the whole Pickton story is that we're not sure exactly how many women because... well, pigs. It's a true fact of American working environments that smokers in many places are allowed to take regular smoke breaks while non-smokers who step away from their work for a minute or two are viewed negatively. Kind of crazy, but I'm sure a lot of people have seen it. seaborgium posted:The book you were discussing where someone shat in their armor, that's Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. Then again, it is a pretty memorable moment. Sadly we don't have any other real options than high-tech scopes as we get into the upper tier. The options are pretty much the same for all weapons, and the recon scope also has the advantage of allowing us a good view of the dismemberment. I'd be happy if they just gave us a steampunk skin for the scope when used on that weapon.

Well, in my parent's flower shop, we did not allow smokers to take any extra breaks. It actually led to several of our girls quitting smoking because of it. Update 178 A bit delayed since I had to edit and go to a half day of work, but here we are. Today we're going off to solve a murder mystery, but first we have to fight our way through wave after wave of ghouls while our guide just continues on her merry way. Once we get to the scene of the crime the next twist comes in: the victim is a robobrain, as are all of the potential perpetrators. On the upside, robojob. If you know what I mean. I think a second stream will take place this weekend on Sunday since Thursday's ended up being a bit short. Thesaya posted:Well, in my parent's flower shop, we did not allow smokers to take any extra breaks. It actually led to several of our girls quitting smoking because of it. It's gotten better in recent years, but when Nancy saw this she mentioned that while working in a nursing home that even when taking regular breaks she would constantly be bothered unless she went out to smoking areas. I've seen it a few other times as well. It's gradually become less socially acceptable, but for whatever reason the idea that people should just go without smoking while at work seemed to take some time to penetrate the collective consciousness.

Yeah, I pretty much grew up in it. Was my dad's parents' before they bought it from them. It was super hard work though, long hours and heavy lifting behind the scenes. At Christmas my mum's parents came to stay with us and took care of my brother and me because mum and dad worked between like 6 and 23 every day if not more. Oh, regarding walking into poles, when I was little I used to read while I walked. At one time, I managed to walk into almost every lamp post on a street, hardly reacting. My mum, who was waiting for me to catch up to her, laughed so hard she could hardly breathe and I was still so engrossed with my book that I didn't even understand what was so funny. I have perfected the art of reading while I walk now though, without walking into things, even if it isn't I do very often nowadays.

Update 179 Our murder mystery continues, with a slight turn as an art critic before we continue with being a detective. But hey, at least we know where all the cat pictures came from. In the end we uncover the murderer and a sinister impersonation, but we can't let it end with a dramatic accusation. Instead, we have to let the murderer think they've gotten away with it before exposing them to everyone... which ends about as well as you'd expect. But hey, we've done it! And we were appropriately dressed. Thesaya posted:Yeah, I pretty much grew up in it. Was my dad's parents' before they bought it from them. Update 180 Now that we're done playing detective we go back to playing detective, and that means going in search of DIMA's memories. Unfortunately to get access we need to get in good with the Children of Atom and that's got all the hallucinogenic vision quest fun that usually comes along with such endeavors. Along the way we kill the island's crustacean equivalent of Godzilla, which turns out to be a lot less intimidating after we've blown some legs off with Borax and Sugar. Update 181 A short update today, but I was pretty tired by the end. In this update we take on a mission from the Children of Atom to hunt down a runaway, and she's not that hard to find after we kill off a bunch of local wildlife on the way. Of course, they'll never know if we actually go through with it... so we don't. But before we head back to lie our collective asses off and collect the reward, we stop in to visit Far Harbor and tell Longfellow that we killed his dream by killing Shipbreaker. He takes it surprisingly well all things considered, and even gives us a harpoon gun for our trouble. Looking pretty good for a stream tomorrow, although it might not be terribly long. That's okay, though, as we haven't even touched the Sunday stream yet. I'm also going into the crunch time at the end of semester over the next week and a half, so a bit of a backlog isn't necessarily a bad thing.
