I've been doing a lot of internet-new-car-window-shopping lately which has involved lots of OEM-internet-feature-list comparisons. And that has inspired a question: Have you ever utilized the passenger- and cargo-carrying capacity of a "Split 60/40" or "Split 50/50" (or any split-fraction) rear seat, at the same time? In the combined eight years of ownership of my first-gen Forester and my current Mazda 3 I can't think of a single instance where I had both a rear-seat passenger and a cargo load that needed the rear seats folded down.

Yeah, once or twice in my friend's wagon we've had one back seat down to fit a kayak, 3 passengers, and another kayak on the roof. So once or twice in 15 years.

Skiing. Haven't needed it since college, but three people and skis.

Had an explorer for 8 years, folded both seats down once when I bought a couch.

Ski / Snowboard trips with four people in my wrangler unlimited had me folding down the 40 split off the rear bench.

I fold my rear seats down all the time. Primarily for transporting something I really should be using the truck for. Lumber, Boxes, weed eater, ect ect.

I put down the seats if I had something in the trunk that needed a bit of climate control like a bunch of groceries or something.

Ran into the recently-ex GF today and stopped for a polite chat that turned into a heartwrenching hour of her telling me how blindsided and heartbroken she is, and all she wants in the world is to be close to me again. Stayed strong and stood my ground and left her with best wishes, only to return to work and immediately have to manage a stupid disaster. Survived that and went home relieved to have a car project waiting to take my mind off things. Got the last parts of my total God-Damned Cooling System overhaul buttoned up on the E46, replaced a few cracky power steering hoses/flushed that system, refilled coolant, started it up and was overjoyed to find everything running smoothly with no leaks or dash lights. Left it idling to get to temp and went to move my XJ which was sitting where I parked it after driving it to work today... it utterly refuses to start. Turns over once and shuts off totally. gently caress you cars, gently caress you Wednesday. I guess it was jealous of the attention the BMW was getting

Am I bad for trying to convince a friend of mine to ditch his ~100k mile '07 eclipse gs for a 07-08 350Z? He constantly moans about its lack of power, not being able to find that many shiny go fast bits to bolt onto it, its an auto so turboing it is somewhat out of the question for reliability reasons and its not a V6. On the other hand, he loves that dumb car to pieces, its in excellent working order with all maintenence being done well in advance, its still pretty fun to drive, has all the options and looks great and getting better as we do little stuff to it. The 350z would meet all his criteria and then some, but its a nissan, so I feel its kinda a toss up. And he can't afford an itb setup, so he can't make it sound like that alpine a111 concept from a while back.

Can he get a second car to ruin? And what happens if you post twice in a name change thread?

# ? Sep 29, 2016 07:39 |

Not likely since he's looking for a truck at the same time so he can stop borrowing his brother in laws and since I don't have one anymore. Edit: And his current car was ruined before it came out of the factory, nothing we do to it could make it worse. Elmnt80 fucked around with this message at 08:01 on Sep 29, 2016 |

When I'm carrying stuff for doing installs at work I'll have long stuff on the passengers side, with the seat down, and a heavy tool box in the boot with the seat up. Means in the case of a crash my heavy poo poo is less likely to fly forward and crush me.

Yu-Gi-Ho! posted:I feel like the 350Z is a much better car, personally. Oddly awesome you mean. And the 350Z is better in literally every measurable way, but that eclipse has some terrible x factor that makes even me like it. Mostly that it has the loudest intake known to man, like people keep mistakenly thinking he has a full exhaust. It can give a honda civic with a fart can a run for its money on sheer noise. And there is the fact that its his "first" car. He had a mercury capri before this that spent 4 of the 6 months he owned it on jackstands in my garage or under a tarp in my driveway. Thing was a loving turd. Edit: I guess mostly I feel bad for quite possibly convincing him he should trade in his first automotive love tonight while at work. While backing out on my way to work today I scuffed my left rear fender/wheel well on my M3 along the rear back corner of the old Mazda6. How the hell does that even happen? Looks like I scrubbed some paint off the Mazda and should be able to buff the M3 out. I just feel particularly dumb at the moment.
