late life care is just a dance between staving off cancer, heart disease and brain degeneration until the almighty takes you anyway so who cares if it would be cancerous anyway

I did clinicals this year in a long term care facility, which was almost exclusively people with some form of dementia in various stages. It was pretty much the worst experience of my life. Highlight was telling a guy with a three minute memory who was running for president. "Hillary." "Oh. that makes sense. what about republicans?" "Donald Trump." "poo poo"

This will fail, because all Alzheimer's therapies fail. Worse is that they fail expensively in Phase 3, because people are desperate and good at lying to themselves. Commercial development needs to stop until we know what we are doing, but it won't. Everyone will keep dumping more money on this garbage fire because they've spent too much to quit now, and they're convinced the next $400,000,000 lottery ticket will be different.

Skeleton Ape posted:Yeah, they should tell people in medical studies that there is no guarantee that this will work, it won't make things worse, or you will even be receiving the treatment. I can't believe they don't do that I signed up for a trial for a new hayfever drug & at the interviews they made a massive point of explaining there was a 1 in 3 chance of ending up on a placebo. Seeing as I'm hosed without my normal pills I quit at that point, I was working at a garden nursery & needed to be able to work.

I feel like Alzheimers would be okay if you rolled with the "always say yes" improv role with one important modification: winning the lottery. Like if I start asking where Billy is, don't tell me that he died back in aught-9, tell me he won the lottery. I'll be super stoked.

its a horrible loving disease im statistically likely to get, and even im not going to fall for this poo poo: whether it be the data was manipulated, the study cannot be accurately recreated, or billionaires will ruin this somehow because old people aren't good enough consumers or some poo poo, i don't have the reason i just know this has a zero percent chance of actually solving a problem in our lifetimes
