At this point I think 3ds homebrew just for the sake of like, playing and patching an import copy would be pretty simple. There's lots of methods at least.

It's understandable since it was the first game in the series and it's just natural for things to get more complex as it goes on, but yeah, AA1 has that vibe in general going back. Even 1-4 folds hilariously easily compared to random schmucks covering up workplace disputes in the later games.
