One shouldnt judge lovecrafts stories by todays standards imo. I mean the "Great Race" were basically cones with 4 tentacles or something like that? This would get you laughed out of any pre school today, but back then it might have horrified people. Its like saying the Wright Brothers were poo poo at building aircraft cause their plane didnt look like an F16.
