worst of the good ones. 4th of july is a great song but cornells penchant for writing sappy radio rock started to really push into soundgarden, too.

Think about it

If Pearl Jam never happened, neither would have Nickelback, Creed, Fuel, etc. Worst impact on music

Actually those guys are more of a result of Metallica's hard rock turn in the mid 90s more than anything else. Their style is nothing at all like Pearl Jam and you are just conflating "singer with a deeper voice = Pearl Jam" which is pretty poor on your behalf, imo

I thought Nickelback was Seven-Mary-Three the first time I think I heard them.

edit: Actually, the wiki on Post-Grudge ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-grunge ) does say:
"During the late 1990s, post-grunge morphed into a derivative of grunge that uses the sounds and aesthetics of grunge, but with a more commercially accessible tone. Post-grunge became popular in the 1990s and continued being popular in the 2000s. Post-grunge bands such as Foo Fighters, Puddle of Mudd, Staind, Nickelback, Creed and Matchbox Twenty all achieved mainstream success."

Although now listening to it, it could be Silverchair or whatever else

It's big business to make one off bands that sound exactly like popular bands.

Yesterday, Sirius radio played Oasis - Don't Go Away and Lifehouse - Whatever It Takes back to back, I think they were trolling me.

I kinda liked Pearl Jam when I was a kid, I dunno. I tried to listening to it now and its pretty bad. I got to meet Eddie Veder once and he was a very solid dude. He might be dumb or whatever, but he's cool. As much as I wanna poo poo on that band, I can't because he was pretty gracious.

edit: Lol I forgot that song Better Man even existed. gently caress Pearl Jam.

eh, that would put a whole lot of bands that didn't have much to do with the seattle / olympia scene as grunge. i always thought of it was a geographical thing, a relatively small number of bands playing with each other and influencing each other before the whole thing imploding in the early 90s thanks to heroin and selling out.

grunge as it was was pretty much over and done with by 1992

Grunge is a marketing term much more than a musical one.

Smashing Pumpkins was good at the time. They started off with two good albums. That's the biggest difference between them and Pearl Jam, who sucked always.
