Oh god! people used to reserve LPs? It was heavily discouraged to have an LP of a game that already had an LP? It's interesting to see the historical origins of some of the worse sentiments that can be found in this subforum. I'm still unsure as to what the reasoning for that was. I guess on SA the LP screamed "FIRST!" not the commenter. Now we have a guideline that tells people to not be dicks about the nth LP of a game. It's great to see how far we've come.

This is the Let's Play Sandcastle, in here we talk about the Let's Play Sandcastles.

Thank god for the 3 month rule if that was how it all used to work. Can you imagine if the Archives was filled with day one reactionary shlock?

Definitely art. Not best practice, but definitely art. I could stare at it for days.

LPs are, like many things, improved through practice so expecting people to be great right off the bat is a bit crazy.

Someday I hope to transcend LP shitposting and start LP regular posting

The video quality is pretty good, although I would probably increase the size of your subtitles quite a bit. They are very small compared to the size of the rest of the video.

I wouldn't turn my nose up at the 52 or even bigger, personally. The easier your subtitles are to glance at and quickly read the less time they need to be on the screen, and Metro isn't a visually noisy game anyways

Question about the Archives, are we basically adding in every single thread that is finished on SA, or is it a certain type? I am asking because my current Alice LP is far, far more conversational and casual than my previous ones (the current episode is half Miz Kriss and I talking about anime) and while I am having a lot of fun posting it I don't want to poo poo up the Archives if it's more designed for more game-focused commentary.

Testposting for a Dropsy thread, any feedback on OP or first video?

*Gurgling noise*

I'm glad that you asked! Dropsy is a point and click game born out of a CYOA thread on this very site, created by Jay Tholen. After popular appeal, Tholen took that idea and with the help of Jesse Bull, David Walton, and Chris Schlarb, created a real adventure game out of the plot. Published by Devolver Digital, it is hailed as an unsung gem of adventure games.

*Bob up and down repeatedly*

You've heard correctly, this is an adventure game with zero dialogue, only pictures and emoticons. There is the rare garbled sentance, but it is intentionally gibberish. Dropsy communicates entirely through body movements, including body flailing and hugs!

*Slightly creepy smile*
Yes, hugs! Because that is the real objective of the game, to hug everyone and every thing possible. People, animals, trees, rocks, everything.

*Wiggly arms*
This will be a blind run with vocal commentary, with a current schedule of a 10-15 minute episode per weekday. I will announce any changes to the schedule on here and on my Twitter, @Dreamshipwreck. Since this is a blind run we are having a strict "no spoilers" rule. Please keep it fun for everyone else.

I am also happy to say that Jay Tholen has expressed interest in this LP and may be dropping in to the thread to provide some backdrop to the adventure. If you have any questions for him, feel free to post!

And with that, let's *slightly damp hug*!

Real minor nitpick - I'd change "And with that, let's *slightly damp hug*!"

to

*slightly damp hug*

and just drop the extra text, keeping with the theme.

I'll take care of that, thank you!

Since I don't hear any other pressing concerns, I'm going to throw the thread up for the weekend. Thanks!

Just off the bat, an hour per update is really, really long in my opinion. Cutting them down to smaller pieces make them easier to both watch and edit.

It's probably better to post the first video of your next series rather than the last one of a finished one, that way you can actually adopt all the suggestions here.

Ok then. Fair enough.I guess I do a different LP instead.

On the other hand, it doesn't hurt to try to contest it under Fair Use. A lot of squatters will back off if you put in a request. It's absolutely not guaranteed, but you can try if you want.

Lol I got an email this morning that my entire channel is getting demonetized because I don't match the new limit for partnership, which is 4000 hours yearly watch time and 1000 subscribers.

I never made anything off it of course but it still somehow feels like we're breaking up.

This is kind of a weird question but I've been thinking of making a new LP after several years gone and a name change, and the game that I would be interested in doing is Red Candle Games' excellent Detention. However, since it is an *incredibly* political game I'm concerned that the thread is going to just fill up with bad posters getting probated for bad posts. Is the SALP subforum, idk, "mature" enough to handle something like that?

My intention is to present the topic as the game presents it, with some historical background on the White Terror on a high level to set the stage. But as I am not a historian I don't plan on getting into the weeds, so to speak. The main focus of the LP is going to be the actions of the characters and their interpersonal conflicts, not the politics.

Yeah I'm not concerned about nazis getting shirty about things, it's just more that it was a real thing until relatively recently, a poo poo ton of people died because of it, and the whole premise of the protagonists journey revolves around her accidentally participating in the deaths of some people over ideology. The innocent victims here are socialist, or at least people interested in it, so tankies are more in question than nazis, I just didn't want it to devolve into "well THIS is what SHOULD have happened"

Cythereal posted:

If it's the game I'm thinking of, the pedophilia subplot might raise a lot of hackles, but this subforum's generally decently behaved as long as you're careful about framing it.

Yeah that's the one big real holdup for tone, aside from my pathetic mandarin pronunciation. The game is shot from the perspective of a schoolgirl that has a *very* inappropriate relationship with an older person but since it's told from her childish perspective it's not directly framed as a negative thing, since she doesnt realize what she is a victim of. I don't think it was Red Candle's fault so much as the best they could do without breaking the flow of things would be to have several more people standing around going "Jesus dude what the gently caress". It's nothing graphic, just very heavily implied, but it's *there* and informs huge parts of the plot.
